Excellent. I’m so frustrated with GoPro and currently waiting for a GoPro to be shipped to me after mine under warranty went down. Thank you for a better option.
Yeah dude, same issues for me with GoPro. Their app is so trash too. I always thought I had to use a GoPro but man I am grateful I went and gave DJI a shot. It’s so much more intuitive and they designed the mic to work with the camera. Plus the app works far better and is reliable. Glad this vid could help give you more options to consider
I don't but its simple. Set the loop length, then press record and let it run. Once you catch a fish and whenever you decide you're done with that fish, whether you release it or throw in cooler, you then STOP recording. At that point the camera will have recorded the last X-amount of minutes you set the loop to be. Wash, rinse, repeat. Now your footage is a lot more easy to find the actual content. Good luck
Im about to switch over form go pro & rode wireless setup to this exact set up! Awesome Vid! Have you overheated the DJI osmo action 4 yet while fishing?
Nope, not once! Held up in middle of the summer in the midwest. Keep in mind, this could be different in the deep south where its even hotter than where I am.
Osmo Action 4 is currently the best camera for fishing videos. I'm not sure about the DJI Mic 2 though.... although it's not a bad selection. I use the RODE Wireless Pro which enables me to use timecode to sync my multiple camera DJI OSMO Action 4 kayak fishing setup. This helps me reduce the amount of post-processing time.
Sure in your specific use case however the vast majority of fishing creators aren’t using advanced multi-cam setups on the water. Hence why I pitched this as the best setup for the majority out there. I also have the rode wireless pro which I use with my high end cameras for more interview or talking head videos. They’re great as well!
Great info Michael. Is there a set-up or method you could recommend for a guy to take good pictures holding a fish by himself? I mean without holding a cell phone .
Sure, I use the Yakattack Panfish Pro camera mount. You can articulate it via the lock n load system. So just place it on the yak with the camera, and figure out the right angle first. Then from there, depending on your camera, put it on either timed, burst, or countdown. Then just hit the camera to start while holding the fish up. Perhaps I'll do a video on this I think it can be helpful. Here's the link to the Panfish Pro so you can get more info on it: amzn.to/4c7Bm9v
Do you have overheating issues with the Osmo Action 4? I have one and sometimes I can't record in 4k 60fps outside in the sun. Tried to do a simple intro for my video and it kept freezing. Worked fine in 4k 30fps. Granted, I live in Florida and it was blazing hot but.... the gopro lasts longer than that in the FL heat. I also bought the Osmo so that I could pair it with my new DJI Mic 2. It's a shame the GoPro won't work with it. Maybe GoPro will fix that in the hero 13?
I'm telling you I'm done with GoPro. I refuse to deal with that camera. As far as heat, to be honest my heat in Chicago isn't the same as your heat in the south. So I can say that it hasn't died on me due to over heating. One point I'll add is if you remove the battery and power it with an external power source I think that helps to lessen the chance to overheat. The battery, when inside, gets hot and that is what will turn off the camera. Maybe try powering it with external power and see how that holds up for you.
with an external battery pack with at least 30,000mAh and you'll film a whole day. To be clear for me a whole day of fishing is like 8hrs on the water.
It's max is 512gb and that allows for 8hrs of recording which is more than enough if you're recording in Loop Mode at anything under 20min increments. Lasts me an entire trip.
I record in 20min loop mode and the files are chopped up into smaller clips. I don’t know why any of these cams do that. I haven’t recorded in regular mode yet but I suspect it would still cut the recordings into smaller clips.
I’ve been thinking about purchasing a new GoPro to begin recording again. Let me ask this if you don’t mind. Does the Action 4 record while it’s plugged to an external power bank ? If so, does it continue to charge? I also liked the Hindsight feature on the GoPro so it would capture up to 30 seconds of footage before I started recording. Does the Action 4 have something like that?
Yeah it record and operates with an external power source via usb-c with or without the battery inside of it. In the Osma Action 4 it’s called Pre-record mode and records the previous 5/10/15/30/60 secs when you hit record.
Yeah external. It’s not waterproof at the camera port or where the usb connects but all of those parts are elevated up off the kayak and mounted to the camera pole/mount. So unless I totally flip, it’s not getting water in it. From the usb port to the battery it’s fully sealed and can get wet and no issues.
@@ChiCityYaker I really like the idea of having a wireless mic! My GoPros have been serving me well, knock on wood! It’s good to know the osmo action camera is a reliable option. Thanks!
@@TruetheFishermanyeah and you can use any wireless mic with a GoPro. Issue is you have to Media Mod $80 to then connect a mic. So the DJI integration between cam/mic actually saves you money while also being far more functional and feature rich
Just starting the vid but i’ll take that go pro you threw down. 😂. Everything you said about the gopro are the problems that i have as well. All of them
Exactly! Plus I didn’t even go into a rant on the scam of a Media Mod $80 case just to hook external mics to it. The DJI eliminates that cost when you use the DJI mic 2 because it connects directly and wirelessly! It made my life so easy to film on the kayak i swear. Anyway, hope this at least gives you a better idea of alternative options.
@ChiCityYaker agreed 100%...I switched to dji a couple years ago after I got my first dji drone. I figured that the drone worked flawlessly how could the action camera not work the same...point proven. Dji is king. It's been great every since I've made the swap. No complaints on cameras or there drones. Another informative video. Thanks for being honest.

Do you have a video explaining how you use the looping setting and get each catch? I’m tired of going through tons of useless footage

Great video! Good info! Done with my frustrating GoPro
Glad it helps. I knew I wasn't the only creator tired of GoPro letting me down in crucial moments.

thanks for posting man... i'm at that point where I want to toss my gopros too... this video helped me let go!
Glad to help man, I really did this for any fishing creator or anyone that just wants reliable filming to record their trips for memories.

Bro, i just rewatched UA-camfishingvid's video when you randomly met him while he was fishing smallies in the harbor
That was awesome
Yeah that was totally random but he's a good guy.

can you do all day power

Question what is the largest capacity, SD card for that camera? I know that GoPro will not allow you to do anything larger than a 512.
It's max is 512gb and that allows for 8hrs of recording which is more than enough if you're recording in Loop Mode at anything under 20min increments. Lasts me an entire trip.
The gopro records in 8:51 minute clips. Does this camera do the same or is it just one big clip if you keep it recording?

1:24 🤣!!!! I would have personally brought out a hammer or suggest perhaps some C4 for my former military friends! LOL
You’re right I could’ve done a better job destroying that crap camera. Lol
