What a great story. Well told.
The fact that Steve-O has so much childhood/teenage footage of himself is amazing. He has proof of nearly EVERY story he tells.

I heard about this when I was a young kid from my older cousins. I was skater and got really obsessed but didn’t even watch a episode. So one night I sneaked downstairs as my parents were sleeping and clicked on MTV and watched my first episode. My dad heard me and came downstairs to shout at me as it was late. He got very distracted with what I was watching and we both sat on the couch laughing our heads off. We laughed together so loud we woke the whole house up. Before you know it my sisters and mom was downstairs. My mom didn’t approve of it but definitely did giggle every now then. Good memories. It’s like my parents actually started to understand me. I was also very hyper active and a bit of a outcast. I was into punk music and skate boarding and it was the first time I felt like my parents supported my hobbies and interest and always took me to skate parks and so I can hang out with my friends.

I grew up close to where Bam lived and I remember my junior year of high school there was a VHS tape being passed around our local skatepark of kids doing dumb shit, things we all did but couldn't afford a camcorder to record it. We would watch it for days laughing our ass off then pass it along to someone else at the park. Come to find out a few years later it was an original cut of Bams footage which later turned into the 3 part CKY series. It was crazy to see what the original was like vs what they cut out so they could sell it in stores. Many years later when I was stationed in Maryland I met Steve-O at the DC Improv show for his first tour, took one of the most awkward pictures of my life and got my book signed. I could only imagine where that tape ended up, did some pissed off mom throw it away, was it watched until the tape inside couldn't be played anymore, or is it sitting in a box in a garage somewhere?

Even though I wasn’t the target audience, Jackass was absolutely huge for my childhood.
Jackass made me a fan of skateboarding (even though I’ve never been able to skateboard whatsoever lol). That led me to Tony Hawk and all his amazing video games, which led me to some amazing music I never would’ve discovered otherwise. Jackass introduced me to so much stuff that would become a staple of my childhood. I’m 25 now and I look back at it with fondness. Thank you, Steve-O and to all the Jackass guys for making my childhood so great!
    I love you guys!
P.S, I’m from Knoxville just like Johnny. Johnny is a hero around my hometown and his dad actually owns a deli type of store that has all kinds of pictures of Johnny in it. His dad is an absolute sweetheart and I’ve met him dozens of times over my life!)

I'm glad someone else sees this perspective of it. I actually think Bam and the cky crew deserve more credit than what is explained in this video, I mean yes Jackass was born from putting together big brother videos and cky videos, but the cky crew already had multiple movies of their own before there was any talk of jackass, and jackass basically took that idea and claimed it as their own and now because of Bams mental state and being unable to be in the lastest (and worst) movie, seems like they are going out their way to make sure Bam now gets as little credit as possible. Also and interesting way for the Jackass crew to show their support for their fellow crew member, don't get me wrong I love Steveo and the entire Jackass crew but how they have treated Bam is very wrong in my eyes

One day my Mum flicked through one of my magazines and she was so horrified that she threw it out and said i couldn't buy them anymore. But that didn't stop me. I started hiding them in the roof of our house and it felt like i had an important project to maintain.
