Very good video. I'm just starting out and this was a great overview of HAs capabilities without getting bogged down in details. Just enough to inspire some self directed learning and pushing boundaries.
I've been thinking of changing it to using some sort of Bluetooth BLE beacon stuck to the bin. If the bin moves more than 1m from it's resting place on bin day, consider it taken out!
I also use my motion sensors for follow-me music. I have Sonos speakers in all rooms and the one the middle of the house acts as the master (always start the music there). When I enter a room, this Sonos speaker automatically joins the master speaker and starts playing the same music. Same with un-join when leaving the room.
@@LeeForsythe when someone goes to another room, this room will simply be added without removing it from the current room. The music only goes off if nobody is in the room anymore.
I have a Samsung frame TV. It shows artwork when you’re not watching the television. What do you suggest for a motion detector that would trigger the TV to come on to show Art? I’m trying to figure out how this set up would be. Do I need the Samsung TV to plug into something that communicates with the sensor. the sensor would be located somewhere else in a different part of the house?
Thank you for your video. Can you make a video about presence detection instead of motion detection? I like the idea to have lights on when I'm in a room without need to move every minute 😁 thank you!
3:23 i wonder whats the precentage that anyone ever has had any useful notification on the "alarm" setting, that somebody is in their home.. that wasn't false alarm or someone that was allowed to be there, and then being able to do anything useful with that information, that would result in an outcome that is better than what would have happened without that system :)
Love this video however. Iv got the aqara p1 and I carnt connect it to my 4th gen echo. Iv reset it and tried to add it over and over again. The device shows up but then says there a problem with it. Do you have any advice on how to get it directly connected to the echo with zigbee. Thank you
Is there a guide to set up two pirs into a group for the kitchen, the problem I had because they are separate and the kitchen is long the light turns off after no activity from the far end of the kitchen that I enter from
I am using sonoff motion sensor, but its annoying I get fake detection, and also small minute flies are so getting detected. For security purpose I want only human presence sensor is there any?
I have a couple of old motion sensors that make annoying clicking sound when they detect movement. Do these zigbee sensors also make any sounds or are they completely quiet?
They're completely silent. The Sonoff flashes a quick orange light when it detects motion, but it's not too bright. The Aqara makes no noise or light at all
That's probably not a smart one. The clicking is from the relay that switches the light. You need also a smart switch (like Shelly) that does the light switching except you have a smart bulb that includes that already. If they switch electronically, they won't click. If they use relais, they will.
Hi. Is it possible to set an automation like this: switch off the light 20 secs after the last motion trigger. Another motion within 20 secs must reset this timer.
I use the ConBee II Zigbee USB adaptor and it works really well in a solid wall old house. Don't forget that Zigbee is a mesh technology so every device you add strengthens your Zigbee network.
Great video! Quick question: How can someone automate a non-homekit light via a Aqara motion sensor. I have a yeelight monitor lamp which doesn't support homekit but runs well on siri shortcuts. Is there a way that I can automate it like this: "When Aqara motion sensor detects motion, run Siri Shortcut to turn on yeelight monitor lamp" ?
@@HomeAutomationGuy Just did. No luck as it failed to detect both Aqara motion sensor and Yeelight's monitor lamp. Seems the server they're on, doesn't gets reflected via IFTTT
That can be annoying, but it's important to help them have long battery lives. With Zigbee2mqtt you can lower the cool down to 1 minute, and I've seen people hack their PIR sensors with soldering irons and wires to change the cool down to only a few seconds
@@HomeAutomationGuy I've now changed several batteries but the result is same. One in the living room and other 2 in the bedroom. In night living room one trigger living room light, in bedroom one is trigger under bed light at night plus with the combination with living room sensor it's trigger living room light off when I'm coming from living room ( without combination of 2 sensors time to time living room light switching off regardless I'm in the living room with this at last this function is working well) other one trigger my imou ranger 2 camera app in mi box(as a baby monitor) so may be this is due to lot off activity?

Bro, that "bin day" automation is on point. Love the NFC tag to reset it.
Every time I see your videos, I realize that I still have so much to learn 😂👍👍
Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge.
Every time I make a video I realise I have so much more to learn! 🙈

Glad it was helpful! Good luck with the HA journey
Thanks for the video. The bin day automation with the NFC Tag was my favorite.

What happens when you’re listening in one room and someone walks into another room? The music will follow them rather than staying with you

Ah okay that makes sense. Nice idea
How did you do that?
Would love a step by step setup of a motion sensor with a light and lights.
Great, thanks!

Haha this is a problem I have been looking to solve for a while, but it seems really hard. Maybe it's time I did and made a video about it
@@HomeAutomationGuy I'm not sure but maybe there are specific "presence detection" sensors instead of "motion detection" like PIRs
Room Assistant seems like a wonderful solution to this..

I am slowly adding them to my blog at www.homeautomationguy.io

Check out another video I made called Using Groups in Home Assistant. It shows you how to do exactly this.

Hi, is it possible to use this pir motion sensors outside the home, I mean in the ceiling around the home?
They're not waterproof and the cold weather will decrease the battery life. I'd suggest looking for something designed for outdoor use

You have any recommendations for motion sensors you can use without hubs
I have tried the Aqara and the Sonoff. The Aqara wins every time
Hi. Is it possible to set an automation like this: switch off the light 20 secs after the last motion trigger. Another motion within 20 secs must reset this timer.
Yep. You can change the "Automation Mode" to Restart, which will restart it when it re-detects motion.
How did you pair aqara motion sensor to home assistant?
Using Zigbee2mqtt and a USB ZigBee coordinator
I installed Pir 3 sonoff sensor in my bedroom. When i move while sleeping my room lights turn on which is very annoying kindly help me what i do?
Point them away from the bed
I cannot get Aqara to work with HA, it doesn't see my G3 hub. How are you using Aqara motion sensors with HA?
I'm using them with a Zigbee USB dongle. Check out some of the Zigbee videos on my channel for more info!

my issue with PIR is the cool down period, specially with sonoff

No, sadly not. I've not yet had a chance to look into blueprints much.

I bought 3 sonoff motion sensors in the first week they were available. They've never worked properly. Junk.
Aqara and Phillips are far better.
