I could see that I needed more clearance to fit the wire protectors at the tailgate and the bed. I rigged a small platform with a piece of plywood and a bench. The plywood rested on the bumper and the bench. I partially removed the tailgate on the passenger side, angled it rearward several inches, and laid it on the platform. The extra three inches of space made this part of the job much easier.
Michael Watkins That’s great man! I love mine and honestly that’s the way they should come stock in my opinion. I’m glad you found the video helpful and I appreciate the positive feedback!
Very well done! I liked how you ran the wires through the existing conduit in the tailgate and didn’t drill the grommets! Very clean install! I’ll be doing the same to my Tacoma!
Colin George Thanks for the positive feed back bro! You’ll love this upgrade if you lock up the bed much. And all I’d seen was guys drilling those grommets which would’ve been a pain if they ever broke when removing the tailgate so I decided not to do that and it worked out nice looks like nothing ever happened
I had this unit professionally installed. A little over a year later the locking mechanism died (out of warranty). Went back to the dealer where i was told I had to purchase the entire kit again! $140. Seems they don't sell just replacement parts. Not a very good way to do business, IMHO. I have since read other comments online regarding the lack of longevity of this unit. Check it out before you spend your money.
Tim Justice By using a multimeter you can figure out which wires become hot when you work the door locks to the locked and unlocked positions and use alligator clip to attach your new tailgate actuator to the wires to make sure it is the right way as far as locking and unlocking when you want if you have the same truck as I do it should all be the same as I show in the video and you can skip all that and copy me

That’s smart!! It’s tight to say the least

Nice job, very creative on the tailgate grommet , I bought the E trailer version it had grommet that were already prepared for the extra cable.

Mike Hammer Thanks for the positive feedback I’m glad you found it helpful that’s what I was aiming for
Just got the Pop n Lock delivered The intructions specify running wires to DRIVERS SIDE panel ??
Ron Shenker Haha well I didn’t do that. I’m sure the results would be the same either way
it says the pl8535 is for a tundra????
Steve Haydu It is! They didn’t make this available for the Tacoma but it works all the same
@@AshtonRegier I just did it with the amazon actuator, spent 14 dollars.
Steve Haydu That’s awesome man!!! Hard to beat that price.

Nice! Very helpful.
So how do you know which color wires go to which colors?????
