Im what you call a planet fitness pro 😂😂 but thank you man I havent train on ball since my HS years . Your videos help me out tremendously wish stuff like this was around 2012
@@tjgreenrealtor3474 actually it's footwork, it helps to improve agility, of course you don't do it in an actual game, and it will also help in a catch and shoot play style or to improve pull up jumpers
Also, do the reps and workout regardless. Without a hoop, you can still rep out the technique with a ball and space and go through your jump shot form and progression. You're still getting work in. Then when you have access to a hoop it's that much easier to rep the move and go into your shot.
Use ONE hand..shoot the ball against a wall, focus on rotation. (You can do this sitting even, doesn’t have to be far) Periodically use your guide hand also, if the ball doesn’t rotate the same, you have an issue with your guide hand, if your mechanics change dramatically, your shot mechanics are off.
Basketball practice is boring and repetitive, with no flashy stuff in the pro world. Game-like simulations, that as far away from the game situation as it could get. Besides, there is no such thing as bad practice. This is an amazing practice with great energy.
It is, not the point of the drill. But I don't really like it cause it's not a movement you would use in a game due to it being a travel. Perhaps they could turn first and then catch and shoot.
@@dave.thedev It's A Travel. Whatever the purpose of the drill is, you are teaching bad habits to travel. If this was Steph Curry, it's still a TRAVEL. (Maybe not for James Harden)
@@brennanang8979 Which part of the video do you mistakenly think is a travel? The momentum catch is throwing the ball out early as soon as they catch it to AVOID a travel. The other moves, they plant both feet at the same time to be able to CHOOSE their pivot foot. Non of these are travels. Also, no one does these drills in isolation if they haven't mastered the basic movements of basketball. DJ is a pro skill trainer and trains pro players. I think he knows what he's doing. But you do you, we'll keep an open mind and get better. Also, a side note: James Harden doesn't travel on most of his moves. Study the rules and you'll see why.
@@dave.thedev If you don't think this video is teaches players to travel, no sense in debating this with you. You need to learn the extreme basics of basketball. Fyi, the Travel in the video started 3 seconds in and runs through the whole 10 minutes. (I was kidding with James Harden...nevermind!)
I don’t get these trainers who make up these pointless drills/exercises to set themselves apart. If he was that great he wouldn’t be advertising $300 a month memberships on a website like he’s running a 24 hour fitness gym.
DJ Sackmann! Basketball skills and development at its best! Look no further it's all here!
My 7yr old son did this drill today. Very effective.

What is the purpose of the the hops at the beginning? What is that training or improving?
Larry Green foot work and catch and shoot
@@marcdave_ the foot work used is not an in game situation exercise. I literally never understood the light of this drill.

@@tjgreenrealtor3474 It helps improve squaring up to the basket, agility and getting in balance from a turn.
Thanks guys. Im not a fan of any drill that promotes muscle memory of moves that are illegal, but I understand what yall are saying. Thanks
More attention to detail than a Chinese father :)
Dang good drill man

How do I eliminate shooting slumps during breaks if there are no basketball courts nearby?

Lay on the floor get a ball and practice that form

What does this help with
These drills helps with our dribble pull-ups.
Scoring on a defender. Whether it is blowing past them or getting separation. The kid is a good baller.
This drill helps with shooting dumbass

Hey coach sorry for asking this isn’t that a walk ??? 😢

Haven’t read any of the comments. But isn’t that travel? At the beginning of video?

back in the day they called it an up and down..then hoop rules got soft
Ofc it is
If you are left handed, consider yourself blessed. Jump shots look so much smoother from the dirty left hand
I’m a terrible father
It’s a travelling violation.
thanks for watching
Are you fuckin serious 😑 ?
4 steps before dribbling the ball...no way..haha thats a traveling violation..
No shit dumbass your missing the point of the drill
Travel
Saw it too 1:49
You are conditioning your muscle memory to travel each time you catch the ball.
while you're viewing things so one dimensional you're missing the purpose behind the drill.

Everything you encountered in life at some point was invented, and many things have not been accepted for a very long time.
You know who this guy is?
Bad shooting form
Sherwin M how?
as a coach, I don't teach my players to shoot with their dominant shoulder facing the basket. Not their chest.
Sherwin M what do you teach?
And your shot is better than his?
