When I visited the Netherlands i was treated better as a pedestrian than almost every other experience ive had in the US. Just don't be a clueless tourist who has never seen a bike before lol Always be concious if you're crossing red brick/pavement and be deliberate/predictable in your movements. Let fietsers pass before crossing. Veel succes!
Confidence is also key. If you're to slow with starting to walk i'd think you're letting me pass as a cyclist. Don't expect people to come to a halt before letting you walk they'll stop when they see you walking.
@@zupergraauwkegames8640 yes. Bikes are fairly manoeuvrable, and bike lanes large enough, so depending on what you'd expect the trajectory of that pedestrian is going to be, you choose to pass in front (with some margin...) or behind them, so neither has to be inconvenienced and maintain their pace. It's the fearful pedestrians who don't make clear what their next move is going to be who are harder to anticipate.
So many positives that are measurable. No more being scared when you hear loud bangs because almost nobody has a gun, better and much more affordable fresh vegetables, you can get everywhere without a car, good Healthcare without paying for the rest of your life and being deep in debt, etc etc
Hm I can’t say that! I moved to NL years ago. Random people smile at you and wish you a nice day. I’m a biker, you need a bike you don’t walk in the Netherlands 😂! C‘mon girl give it a try❤.
I see you are in Utrecht. The first thing I noticed there is how people in public are so closed off to one another. Totally unlike other places in the Netherlands
I live in Amsterdam and in my experience most car drivers are generous towards pedestrians, letting them cross the road even if it's not an official place to cross.
That's an issue that obviously nobody would wish on themselves, but they are not at all common if you consider the huge population of the US. On the general topic, if black people didn't have access to guns, America's rate of gun violence would be among the lowest in the world. It's a sensitive issue.
I love you too, my dear. I follow you for already a long time. But sometimes you re saying : " De grootste kul" ( ask your wife for the translation😉) I keep following you, i like you👍🏻
When I was in New York I was surprised how cricket the streets are, same in San Francisco. And bikes don’t get their own lanes. I rather walk in the Netherlands..
weird...basically the lack of insight shines through....and we do have pavements which are safe and almost always seprated from the cycle lanes and roads....a great place to be....if you don't like it......
For me it is totally the opposite 😂 i was wondering for months why dutch people stares a looot and sometimes they give weird stares as there is something wrong!! 😂
Its true, Dutch stare, no one ever told them its impolite. On the other hand, the country is so densely populated, its almost impossible to not stare 😊
Walk always on the side walk, if there is non keep to the right as far as possible. In Amsterdam and some other cities cyclists usual behave worse then in other places but you get used to it. As for being ignored.. the average dutchie likes his privacy and tries not to interfere with other peoples 😊business. Its not ment rude but more a kind of nescessity i think
Heh. As someone who cycles a lot as a mode of transportation, I often find pedestrians to think the ones who rule the roads, often not even looking before crossing. It's an odd mix... But at least it's not 2-4 tons of steel trying to run me over. 😅
Again, so true. When living in Amsterdam, Utrecht or any of the major cities with them bicycles ruling the streets, as e pedestrian you’re in for a lot of shouting, ‘fietsbellen’ alarms and other agression from the superior cyclists. Love to see the comments from fellow Dutchies in denial. Too confronting for them. 😅
This is complete BS. If you walk on the freeway in the USA, you will get hit by a car. So if you walk in the bikelane guess what will happen? The difference is we have trottoirs EVERYWHERE.
Don't come here, we are FULL ! There are no houses or rooms avaiable anymore, men and women has to stay longer at home because there are huge problems with building houses and real estate - the immigration is also a big problem - you only get disappointed.
Dutch people don't vote for a president. We vote for a parliament. And there is a difference between voting for policies to reduce migration and being unwelcome to migrants that are already here.

We don't vote president, and that guy may count his luck if he might become Premier. Could be bad luck, even, cuz he can't go around like Trump did, he's got to strike deals with other parties all the time. No deal , that's the end for Premier Wilders

Yea, every time i ask strangers in nl , i get an answer- i dont have this in my home country (sadly)

Gouw terug gaan , ik hou niet van Amerikaanse burgers ze de ken dat ze alles beter weten en de beste zijn
Dutch people don’t ignore you in a bad way, we just mind our own business. I love feeling anonymous.
Ja echt hè. 😊

Huh? We have pedestrian lanes all over the country? 😂😂😂 Liar.
If you move to the Netherlands, reconsider. We have a critical housing shortage and we can use any home we can get
Depends. Are you a construction worker?
This is the government’s fault for only allowing luxury expat apartments to be built.
@barvdw it is impossible to build houses, because of the rules here
In small town you will be seen, not really in the big towns❤
I only hear positives
This is definitively a skill issue
Pedestrians are actually top priority on Dutch roads and walkways, know how to “rule the road” as a Dutch pedestrian and you will see.
Hm I can’t say that! I moved to NL years ago. Random people smile at you and wish you a nice day. I’m a biker, you need a bike you don’t walk in the Netherlands 😂! C‘mon girl give it a try❤.
Wow - I feel completely the opposite, I find everyone is super friendly (I moved from Australia)
Which city do you live in?
I would ignore you to....my gosh ..go back. Please
the effort required not to burst out laughing slightly ruins the shot
Implying you even have sidewalks
That's probably because you're always walking aruond with a camera in front of your face 😂
There are no pedestrians and cyclist in the US, only canned meat. What are you talking about?
At least we have walking paths
Lopende paden?
I see you are in Utrecht. The first thing I noticed there is how people in public are so closed off to one another. Totally unlike other places in the Netherlands
We dont ignore, we just dont like to stand out
We dont care about anyone tbf
I live in Amsterdam and in my experience most car drivers are generous towards pedestrians, letting them cross the road even if it's not an official place to cross.
Because car drivers are almost always at fault if something happens
I am wondering what it's like to be a pedestrian in the US 😅
We often don't even have sidewalks. Zebra crossings are often a gamble between life and death 😅
Google Road Pizza
At least the children can go to school without fear of getting caught in a mass shooting 😳

So move back, hurry
Glad you learnt that
Dutch people just like their own space and everything. Like in America if you go to a shop, everyone in the neighbourhood would know
So, why stay? Or pick up cycling
Why you come and complain, if you dont like, go back..
Weird take
I hope you can still have fun in the netherlands since im dutch
Cry baby, just don’t walk on bicycle lanes… eeeeasy
What part of "joke" is it you don't understand? You think Joke is a girl's name and nothing else?

😂 good, don't make it all to positive!
People, this is a old video! She lives already a long time in the Netherlands.
You're not wrong about the bikes 😂 isn't that the case about pedestrians Vs cars in the US though?
in the second shot you walk on achter sint pieter house number 19
Another american ill prepared for a move
I always use a bike in the Netherlands, try this in Germany 😂
atleast we dont take a car for a 3 minute walk like usa does
Not sure what point she's trying to make.
Attention isn’t an accomplishment in the Netherlands, getting the possibility not being annoyed all the time by others is
Don.t we have troubles enough here
als je het niet naar je zin heb in good old Holland pleur dan op...
Please go back
