Anwar is one of my favorite playback singers.He has a great voice & very much similar to md. Rafi the great. Almost his hit songs are in my library of music as I have ever collected & songs are very much heart soothing with spirit of sentimental & sadness. Hi! i am Sanjay from Mauritius. I was really amazed by the voice of Anwar Sahab in the early 1980s, when i was a school kid. He has all my respect and reverence. His most influential song, in my opinion, was 'Youn zahar zindagi ka, piye ja raha houn mein' - the song accompanied me through my teenage days, and still haunts me today. I regret that he went into oblivion within a short time. Wish there could be a comeback of Anwar ji!

Interesting to note, in the first ghazal played, he definitely sounds stunningly similar to Rafi. Being his first song, he was perhaps very young. Then they show a Rajesh Khanna movie in which he is singing after about 3 or 4 years into his career and his voice has already changed, broken from its original clarity, and he doesn't sound like Rafi. This shows how pure and unique Rafi's voice was, because after singing for nearly 40 years thousands of songs, one sees in the last song that Rafi sang on the day of his death, his voice sounds as pure and clear as it did three or four decades earlier!!! It is rare to see a singer maintaining his voice for such a long period even after putting it through really tough test for decades. This is not to compare Anwar with Rafi. Just to say how great a singer Rafi was and I am sure Anwar will be the first to agree. But Anwar is a great singer in himself as he has given us some great songs.
I dont think he was wrong in demanding his fees,.. The way these egoists responded was cruel,.Artists are exploited at every stage in the glamour world,. Anwar saab shd not feel guilty about it,.He has sung great numbers and people still remember them fondly,..He should concentrate on live shows and should give his best,.Why repent over guilt committed by others,.

ritesh mallik , you are right, but I think there are only a few who can demand like that in the industry. Rafi Sahib most certainly could have and Most likely would have got what he asked for, but did not do this. The other singers who were demanding and perhaps still do, are Lata and Asha. That is one of the reason Lata Ji and Rafi Sahib had a disagreement, it has been said Lata Ji is very good at Business. She has dominated for so long, as Anwar says , she took 10/12000, Rupees when other male singers were taking 5000.

I am a huge fan of Rafi Saab but I think very highly of Anwar Saab as well. Indeed he had the closest voice resemblance to the Great Rafi Saab. This is because when Sonu Nigam sings his own songs he sounds like Sonu Nigam, when you hear Shabbir Kumar or Mohd Aziz singing their own songs they sound different from Rafi Saab ( one can tell they are trying hard to sound like Rafi Saab which is not a crime in my humble opinion because Rafi saab's influence was that heavy due to his legacy), when you listen to any other Rafi singers you can tell they follow him to a point where their Rafi-like vocal execution during the rendition of his songs is like a religious and out-of-the-body experience. But this is where Anwar Saab is different. His voice matching with Rafi Saab is effortless and he manages to sound like Rafi Saab even in individual and own songs. His vocal quality is very similar to Rafi Saab whereas in the case of Sonu, Shabbir and Mohd Aziz it is a forced quality in an attempt

I listened "mere khyal ki rehguzar me" on radio 5 years ago, I was assuming this must be sung by anwar, and its true. Im so happy to see him. He is very honest, I dont know why I like all the raffi league singer. Anwar, shabir, mohd aziz, sonu. But anwar sounds more close to raffi, wish he had sung some more song. A trully underrated singer for being honest. God bless u sir.
By default his voice is identical to Raffi Sahab, very candid and nice person, we are so unfortunate that we lost the opportunity to listen your beautiful voice, eyes filled with tears after listening such a bad circumstance. Hum se ka... song was something remained in my memory since the days of Chitrahaaar. recently heard on Utube felt something is different from Rafi saab in this. Later found this is Anwar Hussain. Nice journey to those days. Its not that big mistake asking right money for a job but that tradition was not there then that was the problem I guess. Having similar voice of a popular voice always mostly pass trhough painful journey of short success. Anwar ji is lucky that Rafi ji was a generuos man otherwise impulsive singer like Kishore kumar would have more difficult for him.

I'm one of the kids who grew up in 90s.... 90s was also regarded by some as the Golden era of melodies after the 60s/70s period. There was scarcity of media and Internet in those days, so couldn't know much about the stories behind the making of movies and music of that era.... Loved your interview with Anu Malik and Varun Grover recently.... Would love to see and hear about more artists of that era

very good interview..after long time i have seen an interviewer who takes you through to complete journey of an artist..i liked your interview with anu malik too..about Anwar when he said he asked money and it was his mistake..i think this is the issue which film industry needs to address specially reference to musicians..why it is a crime to ask for money....

I am a huge fan of Rafi Saab but I think very highly of Anwar Saab as well. Indeed he had the closest voice resemblance to the Great Rafi Saab.
This is because when Sonu Nigam sings his own songs he sounds like Sonu Nigam, when you hear Shabbir Kumar or Mohd Aziz singing their own songs they sound different from Rafi Saab ( one can tell they are trying hard to sound like Rafi Saab which is not a crime in my humble opinion because Rafi saab's influence was that heavy due to his legacy), when you listen to any other Rafi singers you can tell they follow him to a point where their Rafi-like vocal execution during the rendition of his songs is like a religious and out-of-the-body experience.
But this is where Anwar Saab is different. His voice matching with Rafi Saab is effortless and he manages to sound like Rafi Saab even in individual and own songs. His vocal quality is very similar to Rafi Saab whereas in the case of Sonu, Shabbir and Mohd Aziz it is a forced quality in an attempt

I listened "mere khyal ki rehguzar me" on radio 5 years ago, I was assuming this must be sung by anwar, and its true. Im so happy to see him. He is very honest, I dont know why I like all the raffi league singer. Anwar, shabir, mohd aziz, sonu. But anwar sounds more close to raffi, wish he had sung some more song. A trully underrated singer for being honest. God bless u sir.

By default his voice is identical to Raffi Sahab, very candid and nice person, we are so unfortunate that we lost the opportunity to listen your beautiful voice, eyes filled with tears after listening such a bad circumstance. Hum se ka... song was something remained in my memory since the days of Chitrahaaar. recently heard on Utube felt something is different from Rafi saab in this. Later found this is Anwar Hussain. Nice journey to those days. Its not that big mistake asking right money for a job but that tradition was not there then that was the problem I guess. Having similar voice of a popular voice always mostly pass trhough painful journey of short success. Anwar ji is lucky that Rafi ji was a generuos man otherwise impulsive singer like Kishore kumar would have more difficult for him.

Absolutely true. Sonu Nigam could not continue trying to imitate Rafisaab and simply discontinued his pursuit.
While he was there, Dont know how Shabir Kumar got hit after Rafi sb died. He is much much better than Shabir and abdul aziz. I wish he had sung more

I'm one of the kids who grew up in 90s.... 90s was also regarded by some as the Golden era of melodies after the 60s/70s period. There was scarcity of media and Internet in those days, so couldn't know much about the stories behind the making of movies and music of that era.... Loved your interview with Anu Malik and Varun Grover recently.... Would love to see and hear about more artists of that era
very good singer. This first Ghazal, i have been listening this for years and still i dont find much difference between his and Rafi's voice. Actually i always thought that it was Rafi untill my father told me that it was Aziz.

very good interview..after long time i have seen an interviewer who takes you through to complete journey of an artist..i liked your interview with anu malik too..about Anwar when he said he asked money and it was his mistake..i think this is the issue which film industry needs to address specially reference to musicians..why it is a crime to ask for money....
Anwar was the closemost voice to Rafi saheb .When we say that he could not get the proper place in playback singing ,we forget that the radical change in the type of songs was not appropriate to Rafi saheb school !
