- Mitch Candiano is a Carny from Lawrence, MA whose family has been in the carnival business for more than 100 years. He has worked numerous roles in multiple carnivals all along the east coast.
Theo is joined by a Carny to chat about the wild life of a carnival worker. They talk about the difference between carnivals and fairs, his personal connection to freak shows (and a three-legged man), games that used to rip people off, smoking weed with one of the munchkins from the Wizard of Oz, rivalries between different groups of carnies, how he saw the business change over the years, and much more.

I think we’re starting to notice how Theo interviewing “regular “ people is wayyyyy more entertaining than half of these “social influencer/ famous guest “😊
Not gonna lie, been enjoying these episode a little too much 😅
Famous people get on my nerves! Maybe because I can spot bullshit a mile away.
I like real!
People who haven’t practiced there answers / conversations 😂 are not my kind of people.
I don’t get star struck
Tosh Show vibes
Same here. I get put off from all the fake bullshittt and always felt like I was able to look threw a persons persona for who they are and if there being genuine or fake .
For sure. The worst are the famous athletes. Most of em can't hold a convo and aren't entertaining whatsoever. The regular people are the best by far.
Thanks for the love y'all! I def ruffled some feathers so I'm glad it was worth it. And yeah i fucked up the Tom joke a little in the beginning but i was def a bit nervous. Much love again. Thank you!!
My brother you made me smile during a rough time! You brought back great memories, funny stories, the questions I would love to ask a carni where answered. Dude hut the open mic. Use this interview as a spring board! The people love you!
@@64chefhowardthanks brother. Glad I could help. I know what it's like. And thanks for the kind words. I've been in talks for a bit about starting a podcast on the festival scene. Now may def be the time!
“These freaks gotta make a livin” was brilliant 😂
Bong rips with a Wizard of Oz Munchkin is straight up fucking legendary bro. What a podcast!!!
Love u brother.
This "regular dude" is FAAAR more interesting than so many wannabes.
How interesting a person is has almost no relationship to how famous they are unless it's some wacky "Me and Sinatra were banging Marilyn Monroe and then Red Skelton walked in naked" type deal.
"We had one called the puke barrel"
"Which one caused the most vomiting?"
"The puke barrel"
I lost my shit when he said that 😂
Bro not even 2 minutes in and this guy is calling out Tom for not having ‘poors’ like him on, I can already tell this is going to be a great episode
F- Tom. His last special isn’t even funny and he became super cynical with money
It was awesome. This guy is so cool
Ever heard the saying, "You're the average of the five people you spend the most time with"?
For Tom, 4 of those people are Bert.
@MrBuketman
100%
He should have sent hate from theos podcast
Speaking on behalf of a lot of people. These "regular" job interviews are so much more interesting then celebrity interviews. The police officer, truck driver and coroner interviews were by far the best!
Sanitation worker was great!
They are the VERY best podcasts out there. All the regular dudes have the best stories, Celebrities are fake and just repeat the same recycled stories over and over :)
Rob Zombie's parents were carnies.😮
Call em what they are... The poors 😂
The toilet champion was my favorite😂
Calling out Segura 33 seconds into the interview is perfection
“Gypsies are the navy seals of bullshit”
That killed me 😂
Petition to have more 'regular people' podcasts.
These are the best ones to me
Agree!!!
💯
thats what theo is for, there are podcasts out there that have normal ppl on it, like the "poors" who try to start podcasts
check out the tosh.o podcast. All regular people.
Daniel Tosh has had some real people on his new pod. It’s really refreshing.
This dude is definitely a huge fan. He understood the assignment. Hilarious episode
Theo being impressed about him smoking with a munchkin is prime podcast
A carny saying "dont cancel me" is fucking hilarious 9:50
Can’t cancel a carny. They’re the final free speech front
Can’t believe I had to scroll down so far for someone else to say this!
Lol imagine being the one leading the cancellation.
DONT CANCEL HIM
You guys gotta stop posting quotes without timestamps
I’ve known Mitch for ages. He also had a concert promotion business and I was in a few bands, that’s how I knew him. He put together great shows, honest to a fault with payments, and was a great hang. Salt of the earth

Agreed known Mitch since I was 15 great man thru and thrush couldn’t have represented us carnies better.
Love this!
I had the pleasure of with Mitch this past winter. Cool ass dude.

I about teared up when Mitch said “sorry my hands sweaty… I’m still nervous” at the very end when Theo shook his hand. You’re a solid dude, Mitch! You were an excellent guest 💫
So fucking good
Theo is one of those guys that I believe he is honest and what you see is what you get.
He has a heart of gold.
Awesome guy and a big fan.
@@englishmenintown8622if you watch Theo’s really old stuff when he was like 18. You can tell he’s the most genuine guy out there. Definitely most genuine comedian

“I’d like being a Mexican.” “I’d like being a Gypsy. I like jewelry.” 😂
This man is so kindly, funny and honest and yet I still feel he’ll take my liver and sell it for a live show if I fell down the stairs at the haunted house
Absolutely love this gentlemen
If I didn't already know of Theo, I wouldn't know who is the carny in the thumbnail.
Top comment 👍
😂
The one in the "drug rug" lol
That carnie doo bro😎
Lmfao!
Theo interviewing just regular everyday people is such a no brainer and it’s the best idea ever
the trick is finding gems like this guy
I wouldn't say he was just a regular everyday person, this guy has unique experiences and a funny personality.

Was thinking the same thing
Cut from the same cloth.
Congrats Theo! I think he finally got all of his dream guests that he’s mentioned. Anyone else?

Yes, he said a few episodes ago he would love a psychic medium to come on! @@MrBuketman
I listened to this with my 74 year old dad on a long drive home across state borders yesterday and we laughed our asses off. He lost his sister on Sunday so we had to help out the family. Thanks for the laughs and memories with my dad, Theo!

Starting a petition to have Mitch back on next year.
"Id like to be a Mexican. I don't know if I'd be a good one but I'd try really hard" 😂😂😂
Theo’s smart to have “everyday people” on the pod. They’re some of my faves.
Good business move too. there’s virtually unlimited interesting everyday people and they’re probably much easier to schedule
He's got a genuine gift to make people feel legitimately comfortable, asks great questions, keeps the vibe on track. Love Theo
He’s been doing it for years it’s great! 😅
I think it’s genuinely just people he actually wants to talk too
It wouldn't work if anyone else did it though. Gotta b theo
This carny is a better guest and funnier than half the comedians 😂 loved it
This guy is awesome !
This carny looks like he doesn't lose too many bolts either.
Definitely is because his shit isn't scripted and he didn't come on to up his carny numbers. The comedians are so fake. I can't watch them.
I wasn't expecting for him to be this cool.
I've listened to many podcasts and have noticed that if you get two comedians in one room it wont take much time until they'll start talking about their degenerate sex acts.
I like this guy as a guest very humble and down to earth type person he seems
Mitch was a 10/10 guest! Interesting stories and a great sense of humor. Theo, you need more guests like this!
“ you don’t see that kind of stuff anymore, that’s the thing about stuff”😂😂😂- Theo Von
I was waiting to see what this was about and wasn’t disappointed lol talking about people with 3 legs

@@ASAP_FenixI think he was also talking about freak shows, which is a good point. That wouldn’t fly today by any means, but it was not just a way to make really good money, but one of the only ways for some of them.
The fist bump for smoking weed with a wizard of oz munchkin is hilarious
I laughed so hard 😂
Yeah that shit was legit😂😂😂😂
I read this before I heard it and once I heard it it made so much sense
small person, not munchkin.
I partied with some carnies in the late 80’s. Let’s just say things get out of hand quickly and often.
“My girlfriend is half Mexican.”
‘Really? Does that part of her seem good?’

Mitch,
I worked at Topsfield Fair for 17 years. Taking the parking money in the right hand lane out at River Gate.
I had the guy with the (ZZ Top) long beard working with me, lots of memories.
I hope all is well.
Great interview.
God bless.
Matty
Hey Mitch and Theo when I wrote my first comment I thought about adding something about the dunk the clown or as it was called the Topsfield drowned the Clown he was way over in the corner of the Midway and next probably didn't describe it as well that guy was a genius he was just so right on with his ability to heckle get an aggravated and keep them throwing balls trying to dunk the clown or "drown the Clown".
I remember his his catchphrase was "high and dry".
There was a rumor about him that he was a Harvard professor. The Topsfield Fair ran for 10 days and it always ended on Columbus Day some Mitchell remember some of those nights got pretty cold. Neckline would stay in that Booth all night sometimes it would be in the lower 40s and high 30s by closing time.
@@mattyidly1705that clown is incredible I love hearing him shit on people that can’t dunk him

Hes a true Carny lmao
"Did ya get the roach?"
Just started this one, this guy is already awesome!
"They are navy seals of complete bullshit" is the funniest way I've heard people describe gypsies lol.

This carny has more connection with Theo than any guest I've seen. This is like two brothers meeting for the first time.
Both of them had really old dads so u never know????

It's funny this guy mentioned all the fairs and carnivals that are around in Massachusetts growing up. It's just funny hearing about behind the scenes because I always thought the people are a little bit weird but now putting a face to it. This guy's a really nice
I said the same thing - started listening and I’m like damn I live in Peabody and have been going to the Topsfield fair and getting hit over the head by the fiesta show carnies since I was just a little shaver. He’s from Lawrence so it was definitely cool to see a New England guy on the show

The Doja Cat joke was hilarious 😂
I survived many carnivals in the late 80s with my little brother and our cousins. Eerything was unsafe, we were unsupervised, and if you didn't go home with an injury you didn't have a good time. Surviving the 80s as a child was a feat in itself.

I love how every time someone gives Theo a compliment he looks down says thank you like he doesn’t deserve the compliment and quickly moves on. So humble and kind. ❤
It is a rehearsed response. He has said he has trouble taking compliments, in the sense that the compliment is almost insulting to him. He probably learned this as a habit to acknowledge what people are saying without saying his real feelings.
I don’t know how the hell I got to this video, but must say I found the conversation very interesting. I couldn’t help but bust a gut when the gravitron was mentioned and how the one dude used gravity to expose his member to only the partially conscious gravity paralyzed riders. 😂
