RENOVATE: Residential Light Design, Downstairs. Cable Layout and Circuit

hi there i'm just on site about to start
the
downstairs socket rewind so i thought
i'd quickly uh run through
my thinking on what goes where and why
uh because of my upset one seemed quite
a popular video
so it's exactly the same as the upstairs
get a skilled drawing and then you've
got a good idea what you're going to do
so this time i've used the architect's
plans from the planning permission
because that uh
includes the uh the extension here
now it's same again it's oh it's hard to
it's hard to uh totally uh visualize
because the place is tiny bit of a mess
that's upstairs ceiling there
and that's the venting for the cuff hood
ready to go in
so on majoring they've got the chimney
on but we've taken that out now for me
if this was my home
i'd put the sofa there and i put the
telly over here
but it's kind of traditional to have the
telly in the corner there so
when we're planning the circuit from the
consumer unit
now that's where i put my tvs i want a
socket there
could be round there's no really
opportunity for a socket because
obviously radiated things are there
good chances of tv there so i'm going to
put two sockets there
you know one for the tv one potentially
for lights
if the surfer goes there like i think it
should do
and equally another socket on the other
side of the sofa so you've got kind of
two scenarios you could put the sofa
there
tvs are traditionally in the window bay
or for me
so from the back wall now that it's a
straight wall you can and the tv go on
this flat wall here
i mean it's we're going to have a door
there to access the understands cupboard
but i think that wall is big enough to
accommodate our pencil they're on there
so you still got quite a big
wall left to play with
right then we come into the kitchen so
for these plans
i'm using the kitchen's designers plans
it's good to get the uh
what the wall will look like because uh
everything's different heights
in the kitchen so i'm gonna come through
so this one here is coming through and i
want
an under counter socket because this is
going to be a fridge or a freezer
then i want an over counter socket just
generally for
appliances whatever i should be about 30
centimeters away from the hub
and i'm going to come up provide a power
point for the cooker hood
come back down for another worktop
socket
and then it's another under worktop
socket
for the fridge freezer because these are
going to be under counter fridges and
freezers
then off into the extension
extension i'm just going to do four
sockets
for me it's a dining room it may become
a family living space so
just four sockets
again we can look at the iet book to see
what they recommend in terms of sockets
and then it's back through into the
kitchen this time
it's on the sink side this is going to
be a dishwasher this is going to be
washing machine
so i'm going to come through in the
under sink cupboard i'm going to have a
socket there so those two can plug in
you could put few spurs behind the units
but it tends to be the space is there so
cramped
that the the depth of us of a plug
will stop the appliance going in where
you where you want it to
so from this socket for those appliances
i'm going to come up
again a minimum 30 centimeters from the
sink
i'm going to go up provide the socket
there up
this is where the boiler is going to be
up through there and then we're
wherever we are through the toilet and
then back to the consumer unit
so it's the same story as the lighting
circuits is
get your plans once you know roughly
what is going
where and how and then you can do your
sockets around it
