Finally got my Sport that I assembled last winter in the air. What a nice plane! And such a value! Specs: Gforce G32 4250 800kv motor, 60a esc, 4s 2200 battery, 12x7 Turnigy Ultra-light wood prop, 47amps, 716w. It cruises at half throttle and has unlimited vertical with full throttle. My timer is set for 4 minutes of usable throttle so I typically get 6-8 minute flights. Hoping to get many flights with this plane, wouldn't hesitate to get another one.
Just flew mine for the first time, using a Cobra 32. Had to dial down rates but she flies well. She also floats for a long time; landings were long and a bit fast, even with power off! I'll have to make more flights with plenty of touch-and-goes (or "crashes-and-dashes" as we called them in the CG). Flew with both 4S 3000mAh and 4S 4000mAh and a 12x8E prop. Will try an 11x7 next. Thank you for lighting the fire!
I got 1100 watts also from this motor/prop combo. My plane has a relatively heavy battery so it weighs ~ 5 and a quart lbs. That is a over 200 Watts per # 3D plane territory. Think this motor with a 6Cell would be fine on a Kaos 60. I originally placed the receiver at the rear of the cockpit area which kept me from putting the battery all the way back so the plane was nose heavy, it pitched up in inverted. I then saw that you had put the battery all the way back so I assume the receiver is underneath. I will mount it there and put in a blind plug servo extension. I also plan to try it on a 4S.
You know, it's been a while since I built this one, but I do recall fiddling with the nosewheel some. I couldn't tell you what I did without stripping the front end apart. Even with a little tweak like that, this is still an awesome plane.
Hey can you tell me a little about how this thing flies before I madien mine.. are you setting all your control surfaces level with the wing and the stabilizers? Are you using full throws or what the manual says..? Also is there anything else I should know before my madien
Sure, It's a cupcake. I used book throws and I always fly maidens with high rates. Rates are subjective though, what I usually recommend is set high and mid rates. Add a little expo to the high rates to help with your jittery thumbs, but if you need the control throw, you'll have it. Once it's up 3 mistakes high, flip to mid rates and trim. I don't know what motor you used, but with my Cobra, it definitely wants to turn left on takeoff under full power, so just be ready on rudder. Have a BLAST with it. I love mine. It's an excellent airplane. Let me know how it goes ok?
@@RCVideoReviews Thank you. BTW, I am subscribed and I am following your choice of planes, especially the aerobatic ones. @@davidknutz3314 Which cobra motor and prop are you using in your Zero? I also have a great planes Zero with the value hobby Gforce 32 that died this fall (magnets separated and rub now). SuperchargedJester I used a Cobra C-4120/14 Brushless Motor, Kv=710 with a 12x6 prop on 5S and a 80 Amp ESC. I fly at about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle most of the time with that setup and get 8 minutes easy. It’s nice to have the extra punch if needed. They say a .32 size motor for this plane but that’s right on the edge of being not enough motor for the weight. John @rcvideoreviews and I went over the math on the plane a I went with his recommendations. You could also look at Leopard 4260-4T 720kv Brushless Airplane Motor from altitude hobbies. It’s $20.00 cheaper. Run the same 12x6 with 5S. I’ve have nothing but Great things to say about both Cobra and Leopard motors. If you wanted to stay with the same kind of setup you have, I would go with a Leopard 4250-5.5T 800kv Brushless Airplane Motor 12X8 prop on 4S. That’s the setup I have in my Sport. I hope that helps you out.
SuperchargedJester so after reading your post again, I realized you already put a motor in the plane. The 12x10 prop on 4S is 790watts. Bottom line, it’ll work. But when I look at the prop test data for that motor. That setup is in the Yellow. If you went with a 14x8.5 prop you could get 912 watts. That’s still in the Yellow! If that prop is too long, you could go 5S and 11x7 prop for 902 watts. And that’s in the GREEN for your motor! If you can’t tell, I’m thinking 900 or more watts is really where you want to be. You would be able to fly with a lot less throttle. @rcvideoreviews has a video going over the math for matching a motor/prop/weight of plane.

I was going to buy one but TH is being screwy. I am a SS Premium mbr and it shows on my profile. However, "perks" such as free FedEx and birthday discount don't work when trying to check out. I asked about the problems via TH's contact msg area (no phone #?) but no response. SS cost of $10 was a waste of money at this point. Problems have plagued the industry and Horizon's takeover of a then-failing TH has introduced its own issues. With the FAA's jack-booted thuggery and the decline of customer service (reminiscent of the 1970s), perhaps I'll can all my planes and do something else.
I just checked on this. Right now they have free shipping regardless of SS status. TOWER15 saves $15. Price $104.99 Order Discount - $15.00 Shipping $0.00 Sales Tax $6.30 Order Total $96.29 $96.29 for this plane shipped! Can't beat that with a stick.

I geuss things are changing so bad that tower or horizon don't stock any arf planes or backorder!!...it's just those cheap flimsy throw away china foam junk that all everyone sells!!!!....been in this hobby for 42 years and getting disgusted with the new junk!!!!
Hi Mike, The stock situation at tower is definitely unfortunate. I’m sure some of it is due to inventory turnover which is good, but some is definitely supply chain oriented which is bad. Hopefully things will improve. Welcome to the channel, J
I don't see why not. The S6R is no different than any other receiver with the exception of the gyros. So if you can isolate the S6R from vibrations like you would with any other gyro on a nitro plane you should be fine. Get yourself two gift cards, cut them to about 150% the size of the Rx. Drill holes in each corner. Roll an orange foam earplug between your fingers, push it through the two holes in all four corners, pull the surfaces apart about 1/4" and you've got an excellent gyro isolate for about $1.50. and 15 minutes of time. They work great for flight controllers. J

Hey did you have to cut a notch in the front landing gear so you could offset the steering arm so you could get more then 3/16 travel to the left?

Can this plane fly like a pattern plane and/or do pattern style aerobatics?
Not really. I has just a little dihedral, so I wouldn't compare its flight characteristics to pattern. It's an excellent sport plane though.
