Gremlins (1984) Official Trailer #1 - Horror Comedy
A boy inadvertantly breaks 3 important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town. - Фільми й анімація
As I kid I thought this was a horror film. I didn't realize it was also a comedy until much later. The best of both.
You still look like a kid tho. 😀
You still look pretty young 😇
Same here
@@classicalretroback no not really she looks like a adult
Won’t lie, this trailer did creep me out by the end, seeing a bunch of weird creatures chase 2 people while the narrator is very monotone and says “they’ll be expecting”
I don’t know why but it creeped me the hell out
I love it when movies like this don't show the monsters. The mystery is a good way to get people interested. What do they look like? What's attacking this town? You'll just have to see the movie to find out!
Also probably why my dad took 4 year old me to see this when it came out... mom never forgave him
I was 21. Wish i was that now.😞
The good old days when trailers made going to the movies interesting. But nowadays with internet social media a trailer like this wouldn't exist anymore. Everything gets spoiled almost.
Not even there mogwai look
You mean trailers.
Old trailers were excellent. Managed to show zero Gremlins here and still make it look promising
NOT the car ones.
I watched an updated trailer and it showed pretty much everything................
@@welty69 yup, came here to say this. The 4k release trailer shows everything
@ 1:56 you can clearly see like 8 of them
+ 😢
I saw this on opening night: June 8, 1984, the same night as Ghostbusters, which happened to be playing across the hall in the same theater.
Oh, yeah: down the hall was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, two-plus weeks into its own release.
Three classics playing in the same theater on the same night. It’s been forever since Hollywood was that good.
BTW: of the three I loved Gremlins the most; three times in the theater, countless times on a bootleg, and I wore out my VHS copy. Great times!!
I know it must have been a good time for Steven back then having two of his movies release at once at the same time must have been pretty cool
Ooo I remember all those movies from my childhood. I recently watched Ghostbusters, I hadn't seen it since I was a kid, and it was fun to hear all the jokes that totally went over my head as a young kid.
Other movies that come to mind from childhood are E.T., Back to the Future, Arachnaphobia, The Burbs, and Plains Trains and Automobiles.
Oh and the Anne of Green Gables movies. I know, they were not big block busters or anything, but here in Canada, in the 80s, when watching movies on TV was still a big thing, they used to play the Anne of Green Gables on tv every Christmas, I think they played the original and the sequal, and, so, even now, they seem like Christmas movies to me, even though they're not.
1:03 - "Never, never let them eat after midnight." Well then, which time zone can these creatures start eating at?!
well isnt all day after midnight
but maybe they mean they can eat after 1 am
12:PM ?
12pm where they are. Also they make fun of that in the second.
My guess (along with many others) is when the sun rises in the morning
Yum yum
this traumatised me as a kid, the first horror movie I ever watched lmao
lmao same my sister once tied me up and switched off the lights as prank having recently watched that move, it got me traumatized fr
Wow this was one of my favorite movies growing up
I never saw the Gremlins as scary...
Still freaks me out. That scene with the heart beating on the projector and the candy bar...
I saw this on tv one Christmas as a little kid and I remember me and my younger cousin were so scared that night and his brother decided to flicker on and off the lights and throw random things at us for fun of course
"Gremlins"(1984) is an excellent comedy horror movie!Gizmo is the most lovely creature in history of cinema!
I would have loved to see this film when it hit theaters back in the 80’s. I bet the reactions in the theater were iconic.
I did but can hardly remember the reactions. I actually seem to remember the most shocking part of the movie to the audience was Kate's speech about her dad. It was kind of a stunned silence reaction. The audience just went sort of dead. I suspect WB saw that in test screenings and wanted to cut it because they thought everyone was bored, but it wasn't boredom, people were just in shock because of how much the tone of the movie had shifted.
They were. We were not expecting a horror movie at all. We were expecting something not scary but more mischievous so when there were Gremlins in the microwave and people dying.. ahaha YEAH. They purposely did NOT show us Gizmo because they wanted him to be a surprise for toy sales so imagine the "OMG it's so cute!" then followed by.... death. Kids screamed. There was stunned silence. It was glorious.
It was fantastic
The vibe was scary but exciting the movies was different back then
When I was a kid I was OBSESSED with this movie, I had it on tape and watched it over and oveeeeeerrrrrr. And still like it alot today and think the mogwais are cute!
Yeah, me too. I used to watch it in VHS, all of them. Back in the day, even the extras were good actors. No amount of CGI can beat a well made animatronic movie.
...But... Mommy...
Isn't it always after midnight...?
Yes,do not feed them at that time
Or they will feed on you
I always wondered about that as a kid.
@@rlam905 it was from midnight until sunrise
Oh yes that’s fine
Classic movie, I loved watching Gremlins when I was a kid in the 80's, brings back great memories.
I get the same feeling with HomeAlone.
Gremlins and Home Alone are very similar
THE VOICEOVER IS AMAZING. . .MISS HIM
1984 was the golden year of films including cult following ones.
Can you name a few plz?
@@Eckooltterminator
A Nightmare on Elm Street
And 1986 - Top Gun, with legend Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise was the biggest actor of the 80s and 90s.
While the Gremlins provided much horror and humor, Gizmo, Billy and Kate really provided heart and emotion to their scenes that warms our hearts. If Germlins 3 opened to see Billy married to Kate, having kids and with living Gizmo, it's a good life he very much earned.
One of the classics for christmas and anytime! will always stand the test of time!
If you knew this film before Multiversus, you know how much of a treasure this film is
Came here to look for a statement about multiversus lol
I saw Gremlins 2 on TV when I was a kid. I was instantly hooked. This was a perfect movie for my childhood.
I love multiverse
I always considered it more horror, second one is definitely comedy
I watch the second one today in the i don't like it
I love how many people back then thought this would be a family friendly film but based on the second half of this trailer it already looks like a horror movie... Don't know how many people saw the gremlins in the alleyway scene but that was a dead giveaway...
Guess people were just mesmerized by Gizmo...
By any chance did you come from a Web article I just saw? XD
@@Pogal perhaps
I have the VHS... it's an 18!!! Uk x
I think Spielberg was considered safe for families with E.T. still being his most widely seen film. And they definitely flooded the stores with Gremlins kids toys and merchandise just like they did for E.T.
I watched in movie theatre in 1984
how old does tht make you :p
@@SeraFna Lol she wasn't born in the theatre
Gizmo: *Exists*
Baby Yoda: _Am I a joke to you?_
I should probably be the other way around...
*His real name is Grogu.*
@@aidangolembiewski1225Both names start with G. Wow!
I watched this when I was 5 years old and I thought it was the scariest thing ever
Friday 7th December 2022. Gremlins is the sort of film you can watch both at Halloween and Christmas. 💖 Virginia.?! :) :( ;) 😀🐶🐦🐉
I remember watching this with my mom when I was 4-5, that’s prob why I’m obsessed with creepy shows and movies
Gremlins is the best Christmas movie ever made. Besides die hard.
1984 was a classic year for films. This was a December release over here in the UK that year, along with *"Ghostbusters,"* which came out the same time.
Agree, I was dating my high school GF at the time and it was a golden era for movie dates. Flash forward to the 2000s, I had to tell a film buff GF I didn't want to waste another 2 hours of my life sitting in the dark on a nice day watching the garbage that passes for movies during that era.
2021 anyone?
Ultimate movie about trolling
When I was little I legit thought this was a horror film😂
Update:I know this is a horror film I’m saying it funny how I used to be scared of this movie calm down
It is a horror film. The MPAA had to invent a new rating of PG-13 after Gremlins and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom came out in 1984. They were both way too violent and scary to be PG movies.
IT is😂😂😂
In fact, most horror movies shares bounds wih comedy aspects, the two genres are very related. This explains why there are a vast variety of subgenres like horror-comedy, black-comedy or even splatter-comedy. Both genres contains "punchlines" in different ways, exaggerated and stereotypical characters, and in general try to keep the viewer anxiety in a neverending roller coaster (a thing that other genres like drama, romance, etc try to calm down).
It is
glad i wasn’t the only one lol
I like how there's No Footage of Gizmo or the Gremlins... very secretly like a JJ Abrams movie.
That's what makes a good Trailer
JTV YTP But Its not a JJ Abrams movie, it's a Steven Spielberg movie...or is it? Dun, Dun, DUNNNNNNNN!
But unlike a JJ Abrams movie it’s actually good lol
Crab urchin
RockChild Cloverfield was great.
One of those unclassifiable classics: horror, black comedy, cute pet children's movie, Xmas movie, small-town satire, all at once...
love that they don't show the gremlins for the suspence
This used to scare me when i was little
Who ready for this 🔥 movie to come out!!!!
Billy is some serious eye candy.
I never saw the Trailer up until now but I am glad they didn't show what Gizmo or the Gremlins look like. Unlike present trailers where they show everything in the very movie their trying to promote. When they really sure keep it short and keep the plot a secret till audiences see the movie.
Everyone going on about this being a horror movie and forgetting it’s a comedy not even releasing it’s also a Christmas movie
Gremlins is still that classic horror comedy from an era where Hollywood shined a spotlight on thoughtful ideas and good characters
Chilling with my lovely grandkids they mean everything to me 🥰
No light . No water . No food after midnight!!! 😱
One of the scariest movies I have ever seen. Nightmares for weeks as a kid! 😂😂😂
Interesting that they had the "Gremlin's Rag" already done for the trailer. Usually it's not until the movie comes out that they start showcasing the music.
I think Goldsmith was picked very early because he appears in the film in the convention scene. They probably also needed his music to use in ads for all the toys and merchandise.
Best Christmas movie ever!
Secrets of Mogwai will explain the whole story first and how Sam got them in this story.
"They change. They become clever. Mischievous.... And Dangerous.” Ummm... Don't forget killers! The description is a lil understated. 😂
One of my mom's most favorite films whenever i watched this on tv she didn't mind at all👌👌👌
My favorite all time movie
I've been avoiding this movie for ages.
But Phoebe Cates?
Havta watch it now.
You have to admit that this trailer was pretty well edited so that neither Gizmo or the Gremlins were properly seen. Gives it a creepy feeling in that you'll have no idea what the little monsters look like until you see the movie.
1:19 They sound like they're throwing up lol!
I love watching this movie every Halloween season.
“And when I was 9, my favorite movie was The Gremlin’s”
Great movie 🍿🤩
Before I saw the movie I don't know which Gremlin like creature reminds me of.
Either fidget from the great mouse detective
Or Nawt from space jam
Because one of the main pawns has that kind of look.
This movie and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) are credited with inspiring the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating. Many felt the movies were too violent for a PG rating, but not violent enough for an R.
In Cantonese, "mogwai" means "devil," "demon," or "gremlin." The Mandarin pronunciation is "mogui."
Director Joe Dante prefers Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) to this movie
The Mogwai were molded and inspired from the Japanese Chin dog breed.
The term "gremlin" is a neologism originally coined by English author Roald Dahl, famous for his somewhat dark children's books. His story, "Gremlin Lore", about fictitious mischievous elves that were said to cause unexplained damage on Royal Air Force planes was commissioned by Walt Disney, but was never made
The coloring of Gizmo, including the white patch of fur around the right eye, was directly modeled after one of Steven Spielberg's dogs.
Listen, I always tell people when they start talking to me around 00:15 or later that you never feed gremlins after midnight. Legally it has always been my excuse and been excused every time. It's a known fact.
I love how we never see Gizmo, Stripe, or the Gremlins. The main reason why I saw in theatre in 1984
I really miss the voice over guy 😢😢😢😢
Merry Christmas everyone
This commercial is very clever because it only gives you the barest glimpse of what a gremlin actually looks like, pre-or-post after-midnight snackage. The premise is all there; everything you really need to know to get you hooked is there, but the actual payoff is saved for the movie itself. You KNOW that if this movie was made today, gremlins and mogwai and all the good moments would be blared all over the place for months in advance - because we have lost the art of subtlety these days.
i watched this movie a long time ago and it was so good
I first saw it I thought it was gonna be Christmas till sh** went down I started looking everywhere
Gizmo is so adorable
I got it.
You feed them DURING midnight
One of the best Movies ever for me!
I saw this on tv one Christmas on a family holiday as a little kid and I remember me and my younger cousin were so scared that night and his brother decided to flicker on and off the lights and throw random things at us for fun of course. I was again very young at the time and our family had no idea what the fuss was
n Cantonese, "mogwai" means "devil," "demon," or "gremlin." The Mandarin pronunciation is "mogui."
At least one of Phoebe Cates' screams in the scene at Dorry's Tavern is genuine. An enormous cockroach crawled out in front of her during one take.
The film was released on the same day as Ghostbusters (1984).
Final theatrical movie of Scott Brady (Sheriff Frank).
I love useless movie trivia. Thanks for the information.
they are so naughty! :D
It's a good analogy for 2020. A warning from a mysterious Chinese man. Things seem not so bad at first. People don't listen-then-BOOM-things explode out of control.
Agreed
Watched this so many times when i was a boy. The only scene that ever scared me was when the gremlin got the science teacher 😂 it now belongs in my Christmas movie playlist along with scrooged and die hard. Love me a bit of 80s nostalgia
Truly a movie of all movie
idk *WHO* told my mother this was a kid's movie at the store back then. still scarred 🤭
Oh i remember beeing a kid....watched Gremlins on VHS and it was a bit scary and a bit funny.....so after the movie was over i took the next best film out from Dads collection....."Critters" oh boy was i in for a surprise
So, when does after midnight end and before midnight start?
I was expecting to see the old lady fly through the window at the end 😅.
Great movie!!
0:08- Well, this trailer cuts right to it. Where's the hip-hop song to describe the plot?
0:19- I don't think he's a break dancer.
no matter what time is it... it is always after midnight.
78 people who disliked this forgot the 3 important rules!
Parent warning. Don’t watch with kids who believe in Santa. Not a Christmas movie.
“It IS a Christmas movie.” - Patrick Star
Parts of this were hilarious!
Riddle me this, when Billy’s mom is attacked by the gremlin that is in the Xmas tree and Billy then chops off the head, “Spike” shows up at the living room window. When Billy acts as if to lunge for him, Spike busts through the glass and into the snow outside, is snow not made of pure water? When he hit the snow shouldn’t he have begun to multiple then? Just a thought.
Easily the largest plot hole of that franchise. My theory is that the gremlins are cold blooded and can’t melt the snow with their own bodies but nothing has happened to confirm this
Haha thats the most iconic part which is sketched into my mind as a kid, i just recalled it in my own comment before seeing this... Was scary watching it as a kid. Thou answer to your question, i believe liquid water was when it multiplied, snow isn't liquid.
Well, Sheldon was watching it so I came here for a brief.
i watched this when i was little and i'll forever be terrified of this movie if i ever watch this in person don't be surprised if i cry 👌🏻
Same for me but it was 7 years ago when I was six, my parents played gremlins 2 on the tv forgetting that it could scare sheltered children and I saw one and FREAKED OUT
1984 had some good classics such as Gremlins and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
And "The Terminator".
The part where its in the christmas tree, and then smashing things in the kitchen and the thriller music is most what i remember with this movie, the nostalgia of that time and period is strong, i was terrified of course.
Their was another christmas movie which was a horror of a santa claus who went around murdering everyone, with an axe, stood in front of a familys car with a kid in the backseat, santa murdered the parents, does anyone remember the name of this movie at all, i do recall a few years back someone told me the name thou ive forgotten again - they gave me a copy and i watched it as an adult, though not the same as watching it as a kid thou, boy was i petrified when i seen it as a kid, i use to have nightmares over it for sure.
I nowadays watch movies if it's from Warner brothers irrespective of whether it's bad or good...they know how to make movies😘😍
Someone who worked on this is in my family
Watching the complete movie CN as of right now really enjoy the back in the days simple times era...very funny great show!!
A passenger jumped of navigator.
damn, kathleen kennedy is not old, she’s ancient.
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
In reality Gremlins are the doGod from Sirius K9 star system ...
Steven Spielberg was trying to tell you that in 1984.?.
But good luck with that.?.
Within the hopes this helps.
Favorite Christmas movie
favourite movie ever
why that sword keep falling when someone closes the door
I know I have a little weird idea but I think it'd be interesting to see if they ever did it, which I no they won't but I'm just going to put it out there.
I would like to see them do a gremlins cartoon
They are doing a Mogwai cartoon for HBO Max and Cartoon Network this year.
