Hi everybody. there're some points I wanna make clear to everyone here : *No one in the Arabic world is using MSA in their daily life. *Each Arabic country has its own dialect that is way different from MSA. *Even within the same country,people have different accents but don't worry there's always one that is more dominant and everybody understand (It's usually the accent of people of the Capital) *Not everyone in Arabic countries can speak correctly in MSA (cause to speak correctly U have to be aware of the grammar and a lot of other things and that require too much studying) but they can understand it (cause it's commonly used in radio,TV and general speeches and its the one used in books,journals and magazines) *All students here study MSA as a part (a central part) of their curriculum (I my self studied MSA for like 12 years at school) *I have seen people from non Arabic countries that speak in Arabic better than many people here (I'm from Egypt) so don't give up, keep the hard work and take your time.
in order to speak Arabic fluently you need to study MSA first , there is no doubt about that .. dialect is something you can learn after the MSA, basically MSA is the mother language of all Arabic dialects

What makes Arabic easier to remember (although it's still the second hardest to learn) is that it's a really logical and calculated language. Every word is specific to one thing and there aren't many exceptions to grammer rules like in other languages.

Everyone who wants to try out arabic, go for it!!!! trust me, it is NOT as difficult as you think it is. Reading and writing is pretty simple once you get the hang of the letters and their shapes and forms when PUR in different parts of a sentence. I'd say tenses are kinda difficult, but then again that's how it's like with all languages. I personally am not that great at the language since I lived in Britain my whole life and though my parents talk it to me at home (and I reply in English, LOL), they talk to me in Iraqi dialect. There are MANY dialects but knowing one can pretty much get you somewhere with the others. Obviously learning the formal way (foshah arabic, الفصحى) is what you should do. I'm not that great at arabic and I find the grammar a little difficult but that's simply bc I lack the motivation to better myself at it, and I never really bothered with it. Y'all should try it out! It's definitely a wonderful language with so many beautiful beautiful forms of writing. It's honestly an art. So many quotations and the way words are ordered in arabic is simply beautiful. Song lyrics turn out so well and it's so easy to rhyme words. Also, a thing with arabic is that there are BARELY the same words that mean different things. For example, there's the word شمس which is sun. There is NO other word pronounced as شمس (shams) in the ENTIRE language (other than the name shams, but that's a name.) whereas in English, the word sun is pronounced the same as the word "son". The structure of it all is just so fascinating and a true wonder. Also, knowing arabic gives you the opportunity to understand the ENTIRE Quran (even if you do not preach it, it has MANY beautiful verses that must be given a read by whoever you are.) in its completely original form, without the twisted and inaccurate English translations. And that's a truly great thing. Give it a go, whoever wants to!!!
Arabic seems to be the perfect language for me. I've been searching for a language that is challenging and fun to learn. I'm happy Arabic only has 3 cases. (Latin and Russian both have 6 six cases.) I like the Arabic alphabet. I know people I could practice with. It seems like fun to learn it.

Actually the Egyptian dialect has many common words with MS arabic, and many of those words which are not common are not also so far form the standard ones, this is not the case with some other arabic dialects, e.g. Iraq

most the pple who Ive known learned Arabic mostly from hearing and listening .. So I think the best way is to listen alot and alot ..studying can come after , say three months of daily listening sessions ..yaah ...thats my little tip for yall :)

If u go anywhere in any Arabic country, and u speak Fusha ( official Arabic), people will understand u, it is the language used in news and magazines ,books ... but in the other hand , u will find that the difference between Dialects ( even in the same country) is more difficult than it is between some different European languages! , which each considered as a separate language.. for example the difference between Arabic in Syrian & Morocco Dialects is much more vast and complicated than the difference between German and Dutch languages
In Arabic we have 29 letters: ( ء، ا، ب، ج، د، ه، و، ز، ح، ط، ي، ك، ل، م، ن، س، ع، ف، ص، ق، ر، ش، ت، ث، خ، ذ، ض، ظ، غ ) There are letters that change their shape (only slightly) according to their position in the word, just as the shape of the English Latin letters changes, for example: ( A & a, G & g ) but ( O & o, C & c )
I have learned the greek, russian, korean, japanese, thai, and the chinese writing system but for some reason the arabic writing system is extremly hard for me to learn, I tried multiple times and failed each time.. but i will try to keep going.

If you want to learn Arabic try to write the letters in deferent ways such as ب -با -تب- In first in the middle and in the end of the word so you can read and more things i used to do it when i was Little 👧🏽
Are you of Arabic Origin???.... because the way you say مغارب really sounds like a native speaker! For me I am Syrian English Teacher and I can recognize a foreign from the pronunciation of غ, ع, and ض .... because they are the hardest to pronounce.... but the way you say it is really native..... cheers ^_^
once you learn some rules well, you can't do any mistakes in pronunciation of word..It's very unique of the language.. speaking is very easier...pronunciation is so sweet and rhythmic.. From an experience of being a polyglot of 8 languages..

Well, let me kindly correct you on a very important issue: the plural أمريكيون is the NOMINATIVE case while أمريكيين is the accusative and genitive case :)
Im an arabic myself and i cant understand the grammar very well they teach us the grammar until we graduate from college and we don’t do very well tho😂 So its fine if you don’t get it specially the Pacific things
The thing with diacritics is that people think that they will never be able to read correctly if they are not written. However you as an advance Arabic speaker can understand that most Arabic words can be traced back to their 3 letters root فعل. Arabic Language tends to have finite patterns when you form an object مفعول به or place of a verb like مدرسة درس ... etc. The more you learn, the more you build your own mental grammar of Arabic to the point where it becomes very predictable what the diacritics are even if they are not written, based on the database of patterns you have accumulated in your mental grammar. My point is, it is true that it is intimidating reading a text without written diacritics, although after sometime they become very easy to predict accurately. As a leaner of English Language, I faced that with idiomatic expressions of American English but after serious and dedicated effort to learn the culture and accumulate good number of idiomatic expressions, now (90%) I can accurately tell what is the meaning of the new ones I come across without looking them up.

I’m a native Arabic speaker. I don’t want to disappoint you but Arabic is really difficult.. even for us Arabs. It’s like impossible to speak perfect standard Arabic because there are many rules and vocabulary to it. BUT that’s why it’s amazing and artistic lol! If you get the hang of it, that means you can describe literarily anything in anyway you want! You will have the power to express what can be unexpressed, the power to portray your profound, the ability communicate with multiple communities (yes Arabs have many ethnicities mentalities cultures subcultures religions identities histories etc) Thus I’m sorry I don’t think any foreigner can reach the ultimate Arabic (Arabs themselves can’t) unless you have a Semitic lingual root such as Hebrew.. bc at least they the advantage start from somewhere. Can Arabic be easy? Yes it can! Thankfully we have many distinct dialects (those are not mere accents, in fact they can be languages themselves if weren’t to follow some international linguistic rules) such as Egyptian-Arabic, Levant-Arabic, Magrhabi-Arabic, and finally Gulf-Arabic. All of which are intelligible to each other to certain extent. People coming sub Saharan Africa and native Roman-language country can go for a Maghreb Arabic, those from Turkey and Greece can go for Levantine Arabic, those from Persia can go for Iraqi Arabic, those who want to be understood by every Arab can go for Egyptian, those who want a bridge to Standard Arabic can go for Gulf Arabic and so forth There’s also something like Broken Arabic, usually spoken by south Asian expats in gulf. Though it won’t be beneficial for optimal communication, but it helps for work-related communication. I know many non-linguistic factors play a role in it… but seriously It’s a shame that we haven’t taken the time and effort to develop our language in a flexible way that suits even far away populations like Japan Russia etc. it’s just the way it is sadly

Arabic is one of the hardest if not the hardest language to learn. You don't need a book you need some one that speaks that language and learn slowly. I can help you if you want ( I'm Arab)
Am arab and I learn a new word i n Arabic everytime I read or listen to the quran 🤯 فوم و ثوم = garlic and sometimes wheat and they are 2 different words and غيث/مطر = rain حسام/سيف = sword احد = one without anything else
You didn't mention that Arabic is not one language, because mutual intelligibility between dialects is rather low. MSA would serve no purpose when haggling in marketplace. As well as the most frequent dialect, Egyptian, would serve no purpose when reading newspapers. This is what every student of Arabic should keep in mind!
MuslimSoldier: It depends on definition of "understanding", people from Romania, Spain, Italy and Brazil can also understand each other to some extent, but they definitely don't speak one language. Yemeni and Egyptian are undoubtely farther from each other than Russian and Czech, let's omit Maghrebi... In my opinion there isn't one Arabic language, as well as there isn't one Slavic language. Reason why we say Arabic is purely political, the same with Chinese.
Definitely summed up some of the things I have found challenging with arabic. Especially broken plurals :O But hopeful that spoken Arabic will be easier haha

يجري فعل مضارع مرفوع، الكاتب فاعل مرفوع بالضمة، الواقعي نعت مرفوع بالضمة، على حرف جر ، لسان اسم مجرور بالكسرة ، (شخصياته) شخصيات مضاف اليه معرف بالاضافة ومجرور بالكسرة والهاء ضمير متصل في محل جر مضاف اليه ، (ما) معرفش اعرابها ، يمكن مضارع مرفوع، ان اداة نصب فعل مضارع ، ينطق مضارع منصوب، به الباء جر والهاء ضمير متصل في محل جر مضاف اليه ، لسان فاعل مرفوع ، حالها (حال) مضاف اليه مجرور و(ها) ضمير متصل في محل جر مضاف اليه ... والله اعلم
There's language courses offered in Egypt. I've been mulling it over. I can work remotely for the most part, and if memory serves the lessons were 3-5 hours per day (depending on your course options/schedule). Would this be beneficial to spend say, 6-12 months living in Egypt, learning Arabic at a School?

Invisible short vowels are the hardest part for any foreign learner since modern Arabic is written without them. Natives due to familiarity and context clues, recognize the right short vowels for any given word automatically upon reaching it in a sentence. Classic/Quranic Arabic used to be written with clear short vowel marks which preserved in a written form the exact pronunciation that was used then. Natives find it difficult or even can't read classic poetry without clear short vowel marks shown. That's like a linguistic time portal to the past. Cool stuff.

I tried years ago to try learning Arabic and thought it was very difficult, then recently tried learning Hebrew. I haven't learned either very well but Hebrew seams slightly easier to learn.

That's not entirely true, if you look at شعر, it could mean the nouns hair, poetry and the verb feel depending on the context

Actually the Egyptian dialect has many common words with MS arabic, and many of those words which are not common are not also so far form the standard ones, this is not the case with some other arabic dialects, e.g. Iraq

If u go anywhere in any Arabic country, and u speak Fusha ( official Arabic), people will understand u, it is the language used in news and magazines ,books ... but in the other hand , u will find that the difference between Dialects ( even in the same country) is more difficult than it is between some different European languages! , which each considered as a separate language.. for example the difference between Arabic in Syrian & Morocco Dialects is much more vast and complicated than the difference between German and Dutch languages

In Arabic we have 29 letters:
( ء، ا، ب، ج، د، ه، و، ز، ح، ط، ي، ك، ل، م، ن، س، ع، ف، ص، ق، ر، ش، ت، ث، خ، ذ، ض، ظ، غ )
There are letters that change their shape (only slightly) according to their position in the word, just as the shape of the English Latin letters changes, for example:
( A & a, G & g ) but ( O & o, C & c )
I have learned the greek, russian, korean, japanese, thai, and the chinese writing system but for some reason the arabic writing system is extremly hard for me to learn, I tried multiple times and failed each time.. but i will try to keep going.

The thing with diacritics is that people think that they will never be able to read correctly if they are not written. However you as an advance Arabic speaker can understand that most Arabic words can be traced back to their 3 letters root فعل. Arabic Language tends to have finite patterns when you form an object مفعول به or place of a verb like مدرسة درس ... etc. The more you learn, the more you build your own mental grammar of Arabic to the point where it becomes very predictable what the diacritics are even if they are not written, based on the database of patterns you have accumulated in your mental grammar.
My point is, it is true that it is intimidating reading a text without written diacritics, although after sometime they become very easy to predict accurately.
As a leaner of English Language, I faced that with idiomatic expressions of American English but after serious and dedicated effort to learn the culture and accumulate good number of idiomatic expressions, now (90%) I can accurately tell what is the meaning of the new ones I come across without looking them up.

I’m a native Arabic speaker. I don’t want to disappoint you but Arabic is really difficult.. even for us Arabs. It’s like impossible to speak perfect standard Arabic because there are many rules and vocabulary to it.
BUT that’s why it’s amazing and artistic lol! If you get the hang of it, that means you can describe literarily anything in anyway you want! You will have the power to express what can be unexpressed, the power to portray your profound, the ability communicate with multiple communities (yes Arabs have many ethnicities mentalities cultures subcultures religions identities histories etc)
Thus I’m sorry I don’t think any foreigner can reach the ultimate Arabic (Arabs themselves can’t) unless you have a Semitic lingual root such as Hebrew.. bc at least they the advantage start from somewhere.
Can Arabic be easy? Yes it can! Thankfully we have many distinct dialects (those are not mere accents, in fact they can be languages themselves if weren’t to follow some international linguistic rules) such as Egyptian-Arabic, Levant-Arabic, Magrhabi-Arabic, and finally Gulf-Arabic. All of which are intelligible to each other to certain extent.
People coming sub Saharan Africa and native Roman-language country can go for a Maghreb Arabic, those from Turkey and Greece can go for Levantine Arabic, those from Persia can go for Iraqi Arabic, those who want to be understood by every Arab can go for Egyptian, those who want a bridge to Standard Arabic can go for Gulf Arabic and so forth
There’s also something like Broken Arabic, usually spoken by south Asian expats in gulf. Though it won’t be beneficial for optimal communication, but it helps for work-related communication.
I know many non-linguistic factors play a role in it… but seriously It’s a shame that we haven’t taken the time and effort to develop our language in a flexible way that suits even far away populations like Japan Russia etc.

You didn't mention that Arabic is not one language, because mutual intelligibility between dialects is rather low. MSA would serve no purpose when haggling in marketplace. As well as the most frequent dialect, Egyptian, would serve no purpose when reading newspapers. This is what every student of Arabic should keep in mind!

Yemeni and Egyptian are undoubtely farther from each other than Russian and Czech, let's omit Maghrebi... In my opinion there isn't one Arabic language, as well as there isn't one Slavic language. Reason why we say Arabic is purely political, the same with Chinese.

My friend is from Jerusalem, he told me that arabic has literally up to 18 accents, the grammar is huge and hard as nails!!!
There's language courses offered in Egypt. I've been mulling it over. I can work remotely for the most part, and if memory serves the lessons were 3-5 hours per day (depending on your course options/schedule).
Would this be beneficial to spend say, 6-12 months living in Egypt, learning Arabic at a School?

Invisible short vowels are the hardest part for any foreign learner since modern Arabic is written without them. Natives due to familiarity and context clues, recognize the right short vowels for any given word automatically upon reaching it in a sentence. Classic/Quranic Arabic used to be written with clear short vowel marks which preserved in a written form the exact pronunciation that was used then. Natives find it difficult or even can't read classic poetry without clear short vowel marks shown. That's like a linguistic time portal to the past. Cool stuff.

I tried years ago to try learning Arabic and thought it was very difficult, then recently tried learning Hebrew. I haven't learned either very well but Hebrew seams slightly easier to learn.
