  • In this video I talk about the applications for VR (virtual reality) for diagnosing and spreading awareness to schizophrenia! I have seen many schizophrenia simulations of hallucinations, even on VR. I wanted to further discuss this, and talk about some of the studies coming out about about this topic.
Please let me know what questions you have as I prepare to get this VR set and if you see any more studies, please let me know in the comments!
Also.... THANK YOU FOR 80,000 FOLLOWERS! You all make it possible for me to continue advocacy and social media full time! You have all changed my life and I am so grateful!

My son uses his VR to help himself. It is quite pricey and worth it.

Facial recognition could be good here too; even if you do see a hallucination on the screen the face would not be recognised. Same with a heat signature, a simple thermal cam would tell you that there is nothing there.
I just hope that Apple are willing to provide you with one of these at a massive discount, given your condition and it's almost a medical tool.

      @Stampyboyz 4 місяці тому +3

The thing is. It's unlikely for Apple to give a discount and a quest 3 would be the best price to quality ratio. Quest 3 Passthrough is a similar quality while having more apps/games for uses outside of checking if something is a hallucination or not while at home.

    Wow!
I dont know anything about schizophrenia and I haven't known or been around anyone with it.
I still find all of this fascinating!
I really love seeing how technology can help with many medical/mental health situations.
Thanks for opening up and sharing your experiences and knowledge!

That price...if it's a way to cope with symptoms for others as well, I wish it was more accessible!

Probably not going to happen in the US but here in Germany I can see this being covered by helath insurance if it proves actuallly helpful.
Not the biggest fan of them but Apple working with psychologist to develop some sort of app wich makes using it for those symptoms a bit easier would be cool. But that's just my uniformed outsider thoughts.

I recommend trying the Quest 3, it could do similar stuff with more apps, larger community, and a higher likelihood for apps to be developed due to it just being $500 dollars (at the base storage, new). It also has a internal battery, and you can still stream what your seeing on your phone (not fully sure for passthrough though)

Hopefully they make more headsets with solid passthrough that aren't overpriced.
I think the closest comparison is the Quest, though they have a lot of jank with the pass through, I think for a lower price way to double check hallucinations it would probably save your bank account. Hopefully Apple open up their software to give their headset/s more flexibility similar to almost all other headsets.

well, the quest 3 is getting the all same features and it CAN cost up to $600, but if you search enough you might be able to find one as low as $200. the big difference is that the quest 3 is more customizable, but it takes a bit of research and trial and error to get stuff working, as opposed to how the vision pro is very simple to set up, but has very little customization options. or of course you could get the previous model, the quest 2, for even cheaper. it's not nearly as good, and the passthrough (the camera feed to see outside the headset) is only in black and white, but it's definitely the most accessible way to do this.

I had no idea there are schizophrenic people that have it together like this. I only had personal contact to one before and he was permanently busy with his over to top crazy conspiracy theory that the local radio station gives him personally commands with the order of rap songs they are playing.

Of course, this wouldn't work with any person with schizophrenia. In my opinion, I have met many people with this disorder and I myself have it too. But some people don't even have that many hallucinations, so then it can't work. And some people's hallucinations are intertwined with their delusions, then it's also quite difficult to treat it with VR. Good video overall!

I was diagnosed with paranoid type schizophrenia. I mostly had delusions and paranoia when I wasn't medicated. The hallucinations weren't really a thing for me. I think I had them sometimes but I wasn't really sure if they really were voices or just like intrusive thoughts. Every time I tried to discuss it with anyone they wouldn't really listen all that much. For many years I believed that I didn't have any mental illness and I'd go off my medication and end up at the hospital. It happened quite a few times until I finally accepted that I have schizophrenia.

If you start seeing and hearing things, just turn on your phone camera and face it towards you, then you will see nothing is around you. No reason to spend 3k on what your phone can already do.

    You have abilities others don’t
Do you see visions when you close your eyes ?
