Fun tip: when a shooter goes to the side on a breakaway or penalty shot, they will shoot the puck within a one foot radius of the corner of the crease. Watch it and see.
Love me some Pasco time. I watch it over and over at our local rink, goalie coaching consisting of- player warm up skating drills, then get in the net and have pucks fired at them. I think Pasco put it best when he said he breaks down video over and over again to find the simple movements turns them into drills that make up the instinctual goalie. The simple drills that started the video are amazing. Your game is a reflection of your coaches and your hard work. Keep it up and one day Trav"won't"suck.
Mind officially blown. I took in about 5% of the info. This will be a watch and re-watch many times over and probably bring an iPad to an ice session to do the drills.
@@Travis_Ridgen have already watched it a half dozen times. Overload of good info. I am curious for tomorrow's video since I am about to pull the trigger on a camera.
Thanks Trav! I can never get enough of Pasco and Brad breaking down these little details. So interesting. I can see why it would be frustrating to try learn in this situation with the volume of knowledge coming at you so fast while you are trying to change little movements that were always done without much thought and just going off feel and instinct.
again and again i love that you and whomever you go to and pay for thier time and education allows you to use the material youre oaying for and learning to be put into the net for oeople to get help i am older 44 still play i have 2 sons who were goalies (one still is) and these tips help so much and i truely appreciate you and the coaches allowing this to happen this is why to myself and my family hockey is the greatest sport ever thank you see in the next video
watching from quebec here! man...i saw you with pasco twice now and im picking up tips and feel better without even playing just by knowing this stuff!mlike identifying the shooters in neutral zone...way to maximize reaction and prep time in action
Another super video with Pasco! No other goalie videos on youtube show this kind of content. What things can I do to improve my game positionally, tactically and mentally so I don't make foolish mistakes, so I can to lower my GAA, so I make it harder to be scored on, so I can play smarter like elite goalies. The whole don't chase when they penetrate the box thing was really interesting because chasing a guy/puck near the crease seems like the intuitive thing to do (like you can try to decrease shot possibilities from where the puck is), but he explains why it's a bad idea and what you should do.
Thanks Trav for more insights from you last session with Pasco. Hope your training sessions help you get closer to your tendy nirvana. Stay safe and .. Peace!
Awesome content. Thanks Trav. I might get to start "training" on ice starting Sunday. No scrimmage, so perfect time to apply what I've picked up from your channel. I'll be sure to tell the guys who my "coach" is. I know they'll notice the difference lol
Love watching your videos man especially this one. Again I only play goalie for roller hockey but I learned quite a bit of new things from this video. Keep it up man. Dont get discouraged you got this. If you posted videos like this 10 years ago. I would be a WAY better goalie for when I played on the Harrisburg lunatics for the minor league team. I'll tell you what man when your every in PA lmk. I can always use a goalie for you for roller tournaments
So Trav I decided to switch to full right to see if I could actually pass. I was hoping to get a few practices in before a game but my pads were delayed so I had to use in a game. Switching to full right was a very strange thing. My stance and everything felt off. I think it will just take some time but I think it will pay off. I will be able to play the puck way better after I get more experience since I will be shooting the same way as I do as a player. I was glad I did get the win last night.
Feels like when you reach forward ( like a lot) the only way to move your glove is with the shoulder instead of elbow. Feels like i do it like that too actually.
Been trying to figure out how to hinge like this for like 2 weeks in my yard.. one trav video and now atleast I know what I was doing wrong... One question though??? Was this footage taken before or after you changed your blade profile?? And did you find it easier to have just toe or just heel engaged after you changed profile???
Trav, how do you stay so motivated towards your goal? Most people would say they want to be a better goalie and follow their dreams, but never actually do anything about it. How do you get into the mindset?
@@Travis_Ridgen so do your knees get raw from your knee protection rubbing your skin? I played 3 hours this last Sunday and my knees were rubbed raw on the inside from my knee pads and was thinking full length undergarments to give me some protection.
One question I'm sure you wouldn't care much, but it's still your favorite NHL team about the Winnipeg Jets. What do you think in your opinion about the trade between Laine and Roslovic to Columbus for Pierre-Luc Dubois? I heard his Pierre's dad works for Manitoba Moose (AHL affiliate of Winnipeg).
Best thing anyone can take away from this who's not a goalie is you need to breathe. You'd think your body would know to do that but go down and do some pushups and see if your body immediately breathes freely or if you need to think about it a bit. During every exercise workout or sport you do, focus on how you breathe. As someone who has swam a lot in the past, this is a big time focus point on improving stamina in the water.
