Watched two pronghorn hunts in the past two days. 1 was a extremely famous guy sitting in a box at a watering hole for hours, the other was yall GRINDING. The latter was MUCH more enjoyable and envy inducing.

Congrats!! That was definitely the onset of heat stroke. Sketchy but worth it. Get a low profile Camelback, it saves me in the field every time.
Agree, even if you carry a lot of water in your backpack, most of it will be consumed (in your body) throughout the day so the weight isn't a big deal overall. I know those SD hunts end up way farther than expected though, so no ones fault!

Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke. Very serious condition. You may want to adopt the LBE, Load Bearing Equipment, used by the military. Web belt and shoulder straps you can put accessory pouches on and balance TWO canteens. If you have to drop your pack, you still have your knife, water, and other essentials attached to your LBE. You can find them at military surplus stores, flee markets, etc. Congrats on the harvest. Can't believe they stood there and let you draw. He was moving before the arrow arrived, but you still drilled him.
I love how these guys go from totally defeated to stalking into bow range of 11 speed goats. As real as it gets. Shows you why you should always push on.
I've heard Lampers say be patient and eventually the animal puts itself in a bad spot. This video is an example of that.

That was a pronghorn well deserved. I'm sure you will get tons of comments about the water shortage etc but I'm glad to see you guys get back ok without no issues. Keep after them goofy things and as always be safe and stay healthy my friend.

Guys dehydration is no fun--been there, got the T-shirt, the hat and magnetic plaque for the frig. I'd carry a 2 litre camel back, 4 bottles of water in cargo pants pocket and filtration system to suck water from that pond. Glad you made it back.

A video on hunting hydration would seem fitting; you boys came close to the edge, and while it's funny to talk about it in hindsight, it wouldn't be funny to replay a tragedy for a lifetime. Be safe out there boys...and good shot at the end.
Agreed, once you get to a certain point you are in deep trouble and it’s hard to come back without medical help. Note: I’m in AZ and have had a close call and learned from it. Every year we have several hikers die here in the Phoenix area. They think they can tuff it out, some are in excellent shape but the heat doesn’t care.

Guys, you really NEED to get some Sqencher packets to add electrolytes to your water... it will prevent the muscle cramps that always come later after you dehydrate that much! When I’m afield in warmer weather, hunting or fishing, a quart of Powerade, Gatorade or Propel is an automatic every day!

Way to stick after it! Sometimes pushing your self pays off on the hydration note though Pedialyte is the shit also some crushible chemicly activated ice packs are something good to Cary in case someone goes down with heat stroke

Watch the dehydration factor, it got me this summer and took a while to get over it completely. Pickle juice comes in handy for the muscle cramps that follow, it works better than anything else I've ever tried. A couple big gulps or as much as you can drink, will do wonders.

You guys have got to carry water and a pinch of salt!
Keep some vinegar in the truck or a jar of pickles. If you get leg cramps later or they wake you up in your sleep take a slug of one of them and it will ease the pain of the cramp.
pronghorn are extremely smart. i was recently in yellowstone and saw one being chased by a lone wolf. it broke away from its herd about two miles from where we saw it. the pronghorn ran across on open area and right into the middle of a herd of bison. the bison didn’t care about the pronghorn being there but they had calf’s with them and wouldn’t let any preditor, or that wolf near them. it was amazing to watch
