It should be illegal for a government department to give out private information that the individual has not given permission to be shared with private 3rd parties , the individuals information is required by law and is demanded as a requirement to obtaining a driving licence you have no choice but to subscribe to the system, this underhand abuse must be stopped it reeks of sordidness.

Once you put a motor vehicle on the public highway you cease to own it. Instead you become nothing more than its registered keeper. It's owned by the highway and can be removed and destroyed. If you don't want the DVLA to have access to your details then don't register yourself as the keeper.
But don't take it on the highway.

These crooks are English aristocrats and therefore your elders and betters in English law. Like it or not. The UK is the only country on earth with a House of Lords. There was a case I read about in Oxfordshire where freehold homeowners in a new development got a demand for a couple of hundred £££ from the local marquis of somebody or other. Note, these people were FREEholders legally.
The development was on land sold to the builders by said marquis. Of course the homeowners consulted solicitors and yes, it was a perfectly legal demand under some obscure mediebal tort or bylaw. They had to cough up.
M'lord treats the local serfs according to their station.
Short of a bob or two ? Squeeze the peasants.

If you have a two week holiday in Cornwall and travel around, you can end up paying a fortune in car parking, some days you may pay twice - a few hours exploring one place then another couple of hours somewhere else for your evening meal. The local economy in these places must suffer when people just drive straight through. Last year we went away with our son who has a young family, to Cornwall, at the end of it he commented that as much as he had enjoyed it, it was very expensive, fuel, parking, food and accommodation. He claimed it would be cheaper for them to go all-inclusive abroad for two weeks. Cornwall should be concerned about this and think twice. Love your videos btw.

I heard from a local that they made the lady who used to collect small car parking fees at Caerhays homeless before erecting ANPR. When I visited a couple of years ago none of the machines were working so we just took a photo of the "out of order" displays, parked and enjoyed our walk. 0% phone signal on EE so we parked for free. The Big Brother feeling left a really bad taste in my mouth. This land is my land, as the song goes. I supose you could always put a strip of tape over your number plate before entering the car park 🙂

As a disabled person with mobility problems and a blue badge, I’m always upset and angry to find ANPR parking with no exemption or even discount for blue badge holders. We don’t have the option to park elsewhere and walk, so we’re a captive audience for greedy landowners. And even in car parks where you can phone & give your badge details, if there’s no signal, you’re scuppered! Makes me want to avoid Cornwall, which is so sad.

Cornwall needs tourists. A modest car parking fee to pay for its upkeep is OK. Massive fines for the slightest infringement of the rules is not. This is sending many tourists away with a bad taste in their mouth and they will not be returning. Locals too: I live near Hayle and there are an increasing number of beaches and other attractions that I will not visit under any circumstances, so the cafes and shops in the vicinity will not be getting any spend from me.

We tried to pay on returning to our car at 2 machines, the first of which would not display the amount to pay, and the 2nd of which said there was nothing to pay for our reg number. Complete and utter scam. We left a bad review of the experience on Tripadvisor and elsewhere. Suggest others do the same. In this case the land owners are St Aubyn Estates, who are not interested in any complaints about unfair charges, and refuse to do anything about their cowboy parking agents.

I am so dismayed to hear this. I live in Cornwall and feel very lucky to be born and bred here. I accept that tourism is our main industry, and that when visitors come they should be made to feel welcome. I have to admit that during the peak season I have moments of frustration when I cannot visit somewhere because it is too busy, but I then remind myself that I have the rest of the year to do so.
I also appreciate the fact that during the winter months in most places there are no parking charges. It mounts up if you have to pay every time you want to go for a walk. As more and more of these parking schemes are introduced it would seem that we will be faced with all year round charges. It is getting more and more expensive to run a car, yet with poor public transport, or even a total lack of it, it is essential in this part of the country. There are less facilities and lower wages than in the rest of the country but the compensation is that we can enjoy our beautiful beaches and countryside in the quieter seasons. It would seem that even this may be taken away from us now.

Good review Andrew & Sarah again....greed again raising its ugly head.
I have been caught several times with fines in Cornwall....I am now very suspicious of any car park and keep copies of receipts for several months upon my return.
I have experienced the 10 minutes looking for a space followed by 15 minutes trying to download some obscure app (no signal) followed by trying to pay by card (didn't work) followed by trying to ring the parking company to pay direct....(no one picking up the phone), followed by the inevitable parking fine.
I have been going to Cornwall for 60 years, and never felt as alienated by such behaviour. I am used to some of the locals resent emmets ( I would probably be the same if it was my home, although I don't know what other source of income Cornwall can fall back on), and yet in almost the same breath some in the Cornish Tourist industry have been bemoaning the quieter 2023 season.....are you surprised? A holiday in Cornwall is expensive and has restrictive beaches and Dick Turpin parking, entry fees and food.

After our walk around the lake and up a track away from the lake, we drove into the centre of Nová Baňa and parked at the side of the road. We went into a coffee shop and spent an hour enjoying coffee and cakes. We wandered around the centre admiring some pretty buildings, a statue, and the main church in the town. Having to use a mobile phone to pay in areas with low or no signal however is wrong. My wife is a wheelchair user, those car parks are in appalling condition, she would have struggled to push her chair on that surface. A lot car parks give free parking or allow an extra hour for Blue Badge holders. As far as I understand it, if the car park is on private land and you receive a fine, you are not obliged to pay it: the company issuing the fine cannot force the owner of the car to disclose the identity of whomever was driving the car when it entered the car park. I received a "parking notice" a few years ago in Bristol and, because I felt it was unfair, I did a little bit of research and found this out from a legal boff on a "parking fine" forum: The company issuing the notice will encourage you to pay up quickly with the threat of an increased fee (usually double) if you don't. They will then send another letter with an increased fee, followed by another, followed by a threat of legal action, followed by....nothing. I tried my luck and, over a few months of nervously "waiting it out" this is exactly what happened. The only exception is if you receive a fine after using a council/government owned car park. In this case, they can force the owner of the car that incurred a parking notice to name the driver of the vehicle who drove into the car park.

I normally avoid private car parks like the plague. I loathe the damn things. I literally won't go to Lamorna Cove anymore (other than by foot) because of how bad that particular location is on the parking front. With regard to Caerhays, I think the charges themselves are pretty reasonable in the grand scheme of things. I also understand that parking was only passed over to a private parking company because the landowner experienced so many problems with antisocial behaviour, people blocking access, refusing to leave, holding all night beach parties with music, etc, to the extent where staff members were getting threatened and assaulted. At which point they threw up their hands and handed it over to a private parking company to deal with. As much as I loathe private parking companies (most of which are rotten to the core), it's the few who ruin it for the rest of us.

No one objects to paying a parking charge it`s just the way they do it that gets your goat and the fact the DVLA are complicit in this practice amazes me. it is just greed and Andrew is right in saying it will give Cornwall a bad reputation. We were in Scotland and Northumberland in May and much to our amazement car parking was free. If there is no phone signal you cannot pay on your phone and if you don`t have the right cash then a hefty invoice will wing it`s way to you. It's not just Cornwall. ANPR is a fact of life everywhere these days sadly. I have a blue badge. Luckily someone had tipped me off that the car parks in Kent where I sometimes park, are now ANPR controlled & you have to register your Badge with the local council now in order to have free parking in a disabled bay. If you do not know this fact they will charge you on exit via the cameras & by post. The most ridiculous thing is that you have to register with each Council separately in Medway. Registering with one alone will not allow you to park free in any other space outside of the Council you are registering with. When we visited Caerhays back in 2018 it was a different story. What would Poldark have said?! (Caerhays Estate featured in the books!). I don't blame Andrew for being hopping mad. We are fast becoming a power & money controlled country in every aspect of our lives. So sad. x J x

Caveat, I'm coming from the USA. Travelled in Cornwall Sept 2022. I was fortunate to find some car park videos on UA-cam that warned me about the problem of exorbitant fines levied for the smallest infractions. Now I'm not saying we did well because of our research and diligence. I do believe we also had some luck. We stayed in Millendreath and the owner of our let instructed us how to use the car park. We paid 20 pounds for the week: pay and display. When we went to St. Michael's Mount we parked in the large ANPR lot and paid a little extra in case we were to run out of time. Large car park in Tintagel: we parked in King Arthur's Car Park right in town: nice and big/pay and display. In Port Isaac, I highly recommend St. Endellion Car Park run by the parish council. It is small and fills up quickly but the views are great and it takes you right into town with the Portwenn view. This was probably our least favorite car park as it was a bit difficult to manevver the car into the parking spot. Being foreign, we didn't park along the roads...don't know the rules. To be safe, don't take chances. Must share: In Chicago, I did have a vehicle impounded or taken away. Had to call a taxi to take us to the lot where we had to wait for my husband to bail us out with $150. I only had a Discover card which they didn't take. So, not so lucky after all.

Charging for everything is the way these days. All the parking machines I used in Cornwall this Summer had contactless payment available, I haven’t had to use an app for months. But it is expensive.

Apps are annoying! You need so many and they just take up space on your phone or hide in the cloud!! UGHH! Sarah :)

Apparently in the UK, a private company has access to who ‘owns’ a registration number.
In the EU this is totally unacceptable.
Is this another ‘advantage’ of Brexit?

I got conned by these APNR cameras in Lamora Cove (no signal) and will not park in APNR carparks again, I love cornwall and the pasties but am a lot less happy about visiting these days due to these scams which destroy happy holiday memories. I now go to South west wales which has great beaches, Less people and is just as nice. Be careful Cornwall you depend on the tourist income.

Having left Cornwall around 20 years ago (and living there for around 30 years), we were totally SHOCKED by the 24/7 machines and the fact that they have been placed there without planning permission! This is a sharp turn around from the same family who used to let very local residents into their beautiful garden at no charge, one day a year! We too remember when there was a man in a ticket booth taking car park money and only during the season.
It has made us wonder if it is the Carhaze family (which we pronounce Car-aze) or the estate office calling the tune. We have known of a friend, whose water pipe running through Lord Falmouth's land, receiving a letter saying that rent was going to be charged for it ( they had lived there for a couple of years when this happened). She was so incensed by this that she wrote to his Lordship. He replied that he knew nothing about this and revoked it with immediate effect! Maybe someone should write to Mr Williams.
I also think that the DVLA selling our private details to private people should be deemed illegal. They should only be available to the police, as in the past. Thank goodness that we no longer own a car!

If this is on private land you do not need to display registration plates, cover them or take them off, I shaving foam mine.

Parking instructions quite misleading. We thought we had 30 minutes free parking, purchased a ticket 20 minutes after we parked up, on returning back from our holiday received parking fine. As you said in vlog we were supposed to purchase the ticket within 10 minutes of arriving, our mistake but in our defence instructions were a bit ambiguous. Also the beach smelt of sewage on the day we were there. Have no intention of revisiting that beach. Love your vlogs ❤

Hi Sarah and Andrew. Payingfor the doyble carpark makessense if they maintain them ie not pot holes but for thetqosmall ones is does not. I am glad the people won the perrition I wish the won foe the othersmall one as well. I don't drive but even I would park in the road safer than the carparkqhere you can risk getting a fine.

Parking charges have been instrumental in killing high streets everywhere . Still they continue with diminishing returns . Madness!

I miss the days of the man/woman in the hut, it was a nice part of the Cornwall beach holiday experience. I too have been caught by the ANPR camera at Harlan Bay, near Padstow. You used to be able to access the beach i.e. take your dog for a walk early morning and parking charges started after 8am / 8.30am. I hadn't seen the new ANPR camera installed and assumed the same rules still applied, only to be fined £60. That's a lot of money for a dog walk. I also notice some of the more popular car parks don't give you the option of a short stop and only offer a minimum 2 hours. Shame!

Great vid … one thought, you don’t need a signal to pay with Apple Pay. Same with Google pay I think.
pity the days of parking in Cornwall for a £1 have gone 😢

I didnt know that will try if that happens in future. Do you know that for sure? I suppose you could, retriopectively, pay the parking later in the day after youd left even when you hada signal?

Yes, I looked that up once I returned home, similar to card payments I believe and does not need a signal on your phone, Sarah :)

We've visited Cornwall for many years, travelling regularly from East Sussex and have witnessed the slow deterioration of the experience of holidaying there, this unbridled attack on the wallets of the county's primary source of income ( tourists) reflects the same short term greed driven way the rest of our society has been treated over the last decade, shameful

My theory is similar to our chip shop during and after covid, What few loyal customers she had she would "fleece them" charging more" to make up the reduction in customers

Open spaces should be free to enjoy in law to benefit humanity as a whole. Our parliament together with wef, our king and un want us peasants locked up in cities and banned from the countryside that is policy and not a conspiracy theory. Expect access to the countryside to get mysteriously harder and harder in the future if we don't stop this

I'd be very worried that once i pulled into one of these car parks then even if i drove out straight away because I didnt like the Ts&Cs (or as you've shown no phone signal,)or a computer error (even if here you get first 30 min free) i might still get "fined" (or whatever the appropriate legal term is). I visited Cornwall earlier this year and literally kept a bag with £20 in £1 coins in the car as a result of your vids (thanks) but its easy to be caught out with no cash especially these days.
