Absolutely one of themost riviting videos I have seen, loved every second, you had me hanging on the edge of my seat. Great detective work, Mr and Mrs Sherlock 🥰
Hi guys, another lovely vid! I always share your walks with my dad (81, lives in maen valley, near falmouth) as he used to do alot of walking but sadly can't anymore. This is the next best thing, thankyou xx
Excellent video. You two are like detectives solving a mystery. Much background hard work gone into this video, well done Sarah and Andrew. May I ask, what are you laughing at when Mevagissey is mentioned in the intros?
What an amazing story - from the start to the end we found this to be really interesting & it drew us in. Well done - pity about the weather - our Summer 3 days of wonderful sunshine followed by a good thunder storm and 5 days of rain - Cornwall is notorious for it ha ha!! Well done you 2, another great story from your wonderful ‘old’ books.
Please can you do a book list!!! I've got some of the books mentioned in your videos, and searching for others - but it would be great if you could do a book list. I LOVE your Cornish walk videos, best I've ever seen. I reckon the Gorsedd should make you both Bards x
Always a fascinating watch guys 👌🙏. Quite a sad story really.. whatever happened. After watching your video on Trebah gardens... took a trip there a few days ago... a really enjoyable trip so thanks for the reminder about it. The hydrangeas were magnificent and at their best 💖. Looking forward to your next vlog 🥰
That was so interesting Sarah and Andrew, it had me hooked for al sorts of Reasons and at the end I my mind was jumping. Coincidence: you started the video at Tremenheere Sculpture Garden, and finish at Ludgevan church with a view of the Rectory accross the road. That is significant as the Cannon Boscowan of Lugvan Rectory had a Garden of Exotic Plants which was his passion, he remains a strong influence on the exotic plant lovers of West Cornwall (and beyond), the connection with Tremenheere? Dr Neil Armstrong, the founder of the Sculpture Garden shares that influence of Cannon Boscowan, in the early days Neil and a few others myself included used to meet in a pub, and would talk about Ludgevan Rectory, Eagles Nest etc. Which all led to the formation of the West Cornwall Garden Club and then Tremenheere. So your video seemed to have a hidden Tangent, Alpha & Omega unknown to you. We also just outside the door on the terrace where I write this is a willow leaved Podocarp tree (Podocarpus salignus) which is a cutting taken from the huge one in Gulval Churchyard, Every time I hear a stange noise outside at night now I will be wondering if there isn't a lost ghost outside? Smashing Video, loved it!
Well, well well 🤭... what a to do all them years ago. Love the old history books and super sleuthing to discover what lies hidden over time. Another wonderful video Thank you for such a thorough investigation of myth and murder
Thank you so much for returning to your old format! We much prefer hearing your wonderfully researched stories from your collection of old books, compared to hearing about places that we loved when we lived in Cornwall falling out of favour. This was a really interesting story too! If memory serves, I think cholera victims would have been buried in the churchyard. If you visit the church in Luxulyan, many of the people died I the same year. They had a cholera epidemic caused by bad water in the Wells. They had record floods which washed manure tainted water into the Wells.
Sadly, the problem with this format is that it doesn’t attract the views, and we will be lead by the audience to make videos that get watched. This format requires a ton of work, which we, ultimately do not have the time to commit every week, especially if it doesn’t attract as many views! Sarah :)
Watched your video on the TV and couldn't work out how to add a comment so have added from my phone. Very interesting video, love the historical facts and intrigue you find 😀
Rather a grisly tale, but a great story for a dark and stormy night, thanks for sending shivers down my spine, 😱 have to smile at your description Sarah of Andrew being Mr. Cynical 😂 I agree who knows if this pair of lovers were in the murder plot together 🤷♀️ it sounds like a most intriguing Agatha Christie Novel, I think Cornwall has many such interesting stories yet to be told and you are the couple to tell them with your delightful sense of humour:) 🥰🥀🤗
This was a great story. Thank you for digging into the history. I believe very many people have been victims of injustice and got put in jail or executed without being guilty. That said - she might very well be guilty of this murder. But I definitely doubt the tales about the devil 😃 Great to see Tremenheere Sculpture Garden and Ludgvan church again. I have visited both. The garden is beautiful and interesting. And the plant shop at the entrance is really good. Have a lovely weekend and thank you again. Torunn 🥰
Great video as always. A really fascinating story and is one they present on the new Bodmin Jail experience (which I highly recommend). They present there that she did infact murder her husband but he was a violent and abusive man. Love these sorts of story's and videos, Thank you for making them :)
I guess the truth ultimately died with the characters in this story, which makes me reluctant to say one way or another! Contemporary accounts, although embellished, may be more reliable than conclusions drawn today - who knows?!? Fascinating! Sarah :)
Very interesting. Did you notice the Restless Temple in the field at the beginning of the video. An interesting structure that moves with the wind and has its own webcam on UA-cam.
Fascinating story, and love the cross-referencing with your antiquarian collection of books on old Cornwall histories, legends & walks, and how it relates to the areas you explore (real detective work!). The church, churchyard and surrounding lanes definitely have an uncanny oppressive 'atmosphere' to them, as if there was a great sadness & loss...maybe a miscarriage of justice that has left a mysterious void. I wonder if she really did the deed, or whether she was the victim of rumour & spite...a little like the 'witch' hunts two centuries before.
I echo your thoughts, and my doubts probably lies with the investigative skills at the time! A lot of it seems to be hearsay, and based on a popularity contest! Sarah :)
Great story and I love your videos. Curious as to why you kept using a photograph of a man each time you mentioned the murdered farmer.... photography hadn't been invented at the time of his demise..... so who is the photograph of then?..... is it a photograph possibly of the only recorded occurrence of someone from Redruth actually working?...... yes, I'm from Camborne ha ha.
I just fast forwarded to the end of the video. I stopped the video just as you said bye.... I hang my head in unfinished shame, you did explain as you say. 😂@CornishWalkingTrails
Great story. I wonder what the testing would involve in those days to establish the presence of arsenic and if it was reliable then? Could arsenic have been introduced after the body was exhumed and prior to testing by someone.
Andrew is so funny 😂 just been to Cornwall Penzance ,Newlyn ,mouse hole, marazion ,porthleven, st Ives, st just, sennen, lands end , oh how I love Cornwall had family grew up in Cornwall. I just love you guys and all the places and stories xx
Hi ya, that story of the lady who poisoned her husband and was hung is part of the Bodmin Jail attraction now, we recognised it as soon as you started to describe it. It’s vividly played out in front of you.
Yes! Not a quick one to explain! Lots of pressure from UA-cam, telling us no one was clicking on the video and it was on its knees, basically dying. You get about 6 hours from time of release before UA-cam assign your video to the UA-cam bin! UA-cam is hard! VERY hard. You have to be mentally strong and reactive to avoid becoming another failed channel! Sarah :)
Well … there’s certainly no shortage of Arsenic in Cornwall !! Would think your best chance of digging out the truth would be to seek access to the church records … often not scanned or available via internet sites. This should include records of the original marriage, which should then give you a maiden name for Sarah … and so potentially lead to her place of birth and establish her background to some degree. Equally, these same church records should also reflect the initial death/interment of the victim … since any final resting place could be anywhere following the investigation and trial. This, of course, all assumes you can definitely identify the parish where the couple actually attended church … which, unlike today, it is almost certain they would have been regular attendees. Nonetheless … a truly ripping yarn 😮 complete with haunted churchyard 😮😮
If you wikipedia "The Marsh Test" and scroll down to "First Notable Application" there is an interesting and parallel story to one you tell. This was the birth of forensic toxicology. Interesting !!
Hi Sarah and Andrew. The start of Sarah was really fascinating and interesting. As to whether she killed her husband or not is a mystery but if he had been ill doctors did back then prescribed some medication which contained arsnic or some took it for relaxation purposes. Although it is more than likely she brought it for the rats people back ten was not so careful about health and safety as they are today.
I can't imagine that if Henry was suspected of dying from cholera and buried in a mass grave, they wouldn't have been able to exume the body. When you talked about the holy well it reminded me of Dell boy and peckham spring 😂😂
I would think that Hunt wrote the name in the way that he heard it. So, maybe that was the correct way of saying it back in the day. correct to the locals anyway.
Miss your lovely walks with your 2 dogs. I feel this would hv been a great 5 minute tale as part of a walk, but I feel personally you hung it out too long! Ha ha Seriously though please do more cornish walks even if covering old ground again. Thank you.
Hi Sarah and Andrew , loved your story and love all your videos , so informative and interesting , BUT please , please , please Andrew , give us a break from your silly and unnecessary puns and "funny" comments , maybe your future is at Plymouth Comedy Club . Try leaving the commentary to Sarah , she is so good at it , thank you Sarah , sorry to be a bit negative xx
We did this on Saturday Ludgvan to Gulval first time didn’t encounter the naughty chestnut horse lovely views of the bay just saying when women murder they tend to use poison not getting there hands dirty her lover probably had more to do with it next week we will do Ludgvan to Trencrom on St Micheals way 👌🥟🍺😉👍👍
Oh, l am ready. I lend you my ears. Looks interesting with an arm chair ready for me in an open lawn. Can l share your breakfast too? Piping hot coffee please. Thanks.
Love this story - more stories/myths/researches from Cornwall please! Really interesting great job!
Absolutely one of themost riviting videos I have seen, loved every second, you had me hanging on the edge of my seat. Great detective work, Mr and Mrs Sherlock

Wow, thanks! Sarah :)

Fascinating story today. We love your stories and the old books. Really interesting. Thank you x

Excellent video. You two are like detectives solving a mystery. Much background hard work gone into this video, well done Sarah and Andrew. May I ask, what are you laughing at when Mevagissey is mentioned in the intros?
I love your adventures. Thank you for sharing and the effort you make with explaining local history xx
Glad you enjoyed it! Sarah :)
Love learning more about Cornwall's history - such an interesting video! Nice research too!
Thank you! Sarah :)
One of the best stories you've recorded and a very interesting video. All the best Bob

Thank you so much 👍
Brilliant story and Jokes Andrew. Thankyou! 🇬🇧🥰
Even on a serious topic, we had to have some dreadful puns! Sarah :)
.
Love your videos. I own a painting by Willie Collins father. Weirdly bought it in an antique store in rural Tennessee.

Love the one liners😍😍. Please don’t stop them
Could never stop Andrew and his one liners! Sarah :)
Well, well well 🤭... what a to do all them years ago. Love the old history books and super sleuthing to discover what lies hidden over time. Another wonderful video Thank you for such a thorough investigation of myth and murder
Yes they did a lot of research to try and establish the facts surrounding the gruesome event. Well done 👍🏻
Thank you! Yes, indeed it took a bit of time! Sarah :)
You might want to check the burial records for Crowlas and Gulval on the off chance that Henry was buried in either of those two places!
Cornwall is too beautiful to worry about the weather 😊❤
As I write we are in the middle of some very warm weather in southern England so I’m hoping it’s now come to you , another great video , thank you 👍
We have some sunshine too now thankfully! But being peak tourist season, we are staying in the garden!!! Sarah :)
Very interesting video. 👍

Awesome! Thank you! Unfortunately TV watching is more and more commonplace now, thank for leaving a comment! Sarah :)

you guys should look into the story of Tempest of Tehidy.
Super interesting video and obviously an awful lot of research has been done by you both.
Well researched and presented. Interesting story and we know who to blame for the rain 😉.
Very interesting. Did you notice the Restless Temple in the field at the beginning of the video. An interesting structure that moves with the wind and has its own webcam on UA-cam.

Great one! Love, murder and pilgrimage! An all round good walk and mystery 🙏🏾
Thank you! Sarah :)

Love the brick chair. Far out! Kerr-razy 🇺🇸
So cool! Sarah :)
Great story. I wonder what the testing would involve in those days to establish the presence of arsenic and if it was reliable then?
Could arsenic have been introduced after the body was exhumed and prior to testing by someone.
Fascinating but grisly story. Loved Andrew’s jokes at the beginning.
Thank you! We had to get the puns over with and then concentrate on the serious stuff!! 🙂 Sarah :)
Thank you thank you ❤
You are so welcome
A lot of wells and springs and even streams became dry after mining drainage reduced the water table.
Very true, at the time of mining activity! More likely that the road went over the top! Sarah :)
Nice one! You got around a bit! Sarah :)
These events are detailed as part of Bodmin Jails exhibition
How interesting! Sarah :)
If it helps there is a holy well shown at Ludgvan church ont the Cornwall Council interactive map
Another really enjoyable vid well researched.
As for a fruit boat, possibly a banana boat?
Thanks a bunch for your content!!😊
Hi ya, that story of the lady who poisoned her husband and was hung is part of the Bodmin Jail attraction now, we recognised it as soon as you started to describe it.
It’s vividly played out in front of you.
have you looked into the aliester crowley and d.h.lawrence happenings near zennor?
Nice story.I found her burial at Bodmin jail.I took a pic,it was+on ancestry
Sorry did not go there . As you put me off that place .
Waiting to watch this with my mum tomorrow (we always watch them together), but curious as to why the thumbnail and name were changed.
Yes! Not a quick one to explain! Lots of pressure from UA-cam, telling us no one was clicking on the video and it was on its knees, basically dying. You get about 6 hours from time of release before UA-cam assign your video to the UA-cam bin!

If you wikipedia "The Marsh Test" and scroll down to "First Notable Application" there is an interesting and parallel story to one you tell. This was the birth of forensic toxicology. Interesting !!
How interesting! So perhaps it was either this case, or happened a lot!!! Sarah :)
My Nicholls ancestors are from gulval and Penzance.
Hi Sarah and Andrew. The start of Sarah was really fascinating and interesting. I agree! Just because it was in the house, doesn’t mean she did it, Sarah :)
I can't imagine that if Henry was suspected of dying from cholera and buried in a mass grave, they wouldn't have been able to exume the body.
When you talked about the holy well it reminded me of Dell boy and peckham spring 😂😂
😂oh yes! Bottling the tap water!! Sarah :)
If this is a murder story , lock Andrew up for murdering those puns.😅
Terrible weren’t they!!! 😂🙂😂 Sarah :)
Check out book.
The History of Bodmin Jail by Bill Johnson.
I would think that Hunt wrote the name in the way that he heard it. So, maybe that was the correct way of saying it back in the day. correct to the locals anyway.

Gosh! Bit mean to Andrew! They are tongue in cheek after all! And others have enjoyed them, just look at the comments, Sarah :)
Well well, where's the well ?!!

Hate to let you go. Oh wait....theres more videos.
😂 yes! Lots of videos!! Sarah :)
The marriage to Henry was allegedly bigamous.
Easier to sail in a fruit boat than a gravy boat... 😂
😂🤣😂 very good! Sarah :)
