So you can imagine that these Rafales pilots landing on US carriers feel a bit like going home in a certain way. This is unheard of even in Europe we don't have this level of cooperation. Yes absolutely the Charles de Gaulle, it's the only one but I really hope that my president decide to build another one. We can't take the risk to don't have a carrier during 6 month because the Charles de Gaulle is in review.
@The_french_weeb It's half the size of a US Nimitz class. Small only in comparison to those monsters but still a nuclear powered CATOBAR carrier. It's far better than any other carrier in the world besides the big US ships.
US and France are the ONLY 2 countries in the world operating Nuclear CATOBAR Aircraft Carrier making these 2 navies somewhat sisters. For reference, Carriers operated by other NATO nations (i.e., Italy, UK, Spain, and Turkey) are/will be all Conventional STOVL Aircraft Carrier closer to Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD).
What is the point lmao. For example, the UK has 2, yes 2 aircraft carriers. It is not nuclear-powered (some very big advantages in being non-nuclear BTW) or CATOBAR but that ensures that the UK does not experience a void in carrier capability every time an aircraft carrier goes into maintenance or a refit, like the french are experiencing right now with the De Gaulle. France wanted their carrier to be like one of the americans' and that ended up so darn expensive they could only afford one. They could've emulated some of the sensible choices the british made and they could have had 2 carriers as well.
Mario DeLaurie but france has 5 others carriers helicopters + landing troops and projection force very modern we don't need always the aircraft carrier. It ´s the same price than 1 nuclear carrier.

Fun fact the Charles de Gaulle is smaller than the USS George H.W. Bush. So it's actually easier for french pilot to land their plane on a bigger aircraft carrier. This is not true! Years before this, the French intergrated into an American air wing aboard the Theodore Roosevelt during a refit on the Charles deGaulle. Nothing new. How could they miss that?
Seeing this video I add the most important for you in the USA: Without the "Royale", the French navy so, which then defeated the English Royal Navy, which behaved before this defeat as a true dictator of the seas for the benefit of the economy and the interests of England (in the 18th century, finally in peace with its European neighbors for more than 20 years, France under the will of King Louis XV had been able to put a lot of its means to build a navy as powerful as that of England, the only Navy in the world at that time able to beat the Royal Navy), never without doubts the USA would exist today as an independent republic, or at least never since 1776. The French Navy is also very closely linked by facts to the History of the USA, it is even the most important military player which ultimately allowed the creation of your free Republic.
« Training with the best” I love how she completely forget that one French pilot usually do the job of 3-4 American pilot since we have an omnirole aircraft, much superior than the one operated on american carrier... anyway, I’m glad to see that even if we have our beef some times, our military are still supporting each other...

@Shaun Mclaren the rafale is a 4.5 th generation omnirole. It is the top of its generation fighter. Be objectiv. The difference with a 5 th generation is the stealthy . Since the Brazilian Navy announced the disarmament of the aircraft carrier NAe São Paulo (ex-French aircraft carruer-Foch) in 2017, only two nations are capable, in 2020, of catapulting aircraft. It's not really rare. British RAF was training in the spanish aircraft years ago because they did not have the new one and they used the same kind of planes, Harrier. If some people are thinking in a british-spanish war they are wrong, really wrong. That's why NATO exists: for defense purposes and make one army (i was several yeras a go a former spanish marine and we were training always with NATO forces. You can see now, for example, Naval Task Forces, spanish too, in front of Siria or close to Russia with spannisn Eurofighters in Baltican republics, etc)
It's not vet rare with air force but with navies, it's much lesss commun, the marine national and the brazilian navy (because they bought a french carrier) are the only one to have the same standards for their catapults so it's a fairly rare exercise.
I would like to have a Catobar in our "aircraft", but it's very expensive (even UK with the new aircraft too) In NATO ships (integrated forces) it's not strange; US Osprey landing on spanish aircraft ua-cam.com/video/Y-v7_gvGA-Q/v-deo.html or the full integration from years ago between Spanish Armada and the US Navy with the AEGIS system in the east Mediterranean (Syria) or with ships and spanish F-18 and Eurofighters close to North-east Russia. France uses 200 naval aeronautics aircraft divided into 15 flotillas and 3 squadrons, or 4000 sailors, anchored in 4 aeronautical bases. France has 4 nuclear ballistic missile submarines, 6 nuclear attack submarines
Wow-- talk about multi-national strike groups and cooperation! Soon, the Queen Elizabeth will deploy with a Marine F-35 unit and it won't be long perhaps for a French squadron to deploy on an American carrier. That's interoperability!

Why does the US allow French pilots on a US carrier. In 1986 when 25 F-111 took off from a UK base to bomb Libyia the US asked the French gov for permission to fly over France to cut the distance in half the French gov said no.
At least, they respected this decision. Smaller Malta also said no, and yet its air space was violated by Big Boss's planes. Because small. Talion's law, and the law of the strongest are against the Charter of UNO in theory, and the USA failed to back their operation by any article of the Charter about auto-defence (because of lack of evidences or disdain for the world organization). UK's Prime Minister said yes and this led to heavy domestic criticisms afterwards, a proof that saying yes was not so evident I presume.
@@rjbmarchiac8693 Libia was responsable for the downing of a 747 Pan Am plane over Scotland. Maybe France should build more aircraft carriers and not rely on US carriers. If it happened over France they would have reacted differently.

Long live to the US! Vive la France! When American pilots landed on the French aircraft carrier C. De Gaulle few months later, they were amazed: "God, they have a bakery on their carrier with daily Fresh baguette, croissants, etc... " And they have wine too; it's good for the moral :) Just an additional note: France has only 4 aircraft carriers but universities are free; education for everyone whatever their income, before the military.
The American top level people in this video are very polite, cause basically, the US pilots and aircraft carriers staff does not need to learn anything from French pilots, and US jets will never need to land on the French carrier given the endless ressources the US Army has (10 carriers vs 1 for France). This is all the more true since the title of the video is pretty misleading: although the title mentions US-French joint training, the journalist actually talks mostly about the US ship (kitchen, life on board, gym...), the French training being just secondary in the video. So bottom line it's a lot of PR, and while French pilotes absolutely needed this training on the US carrier (the sole French carrier was stopped for 1.5 year for mid-life maintenance, and landing & taking of are perishable skills), it was just an other day for US carriers staff. And if the journalist had done some work, she would have mentioned that French Navy is actually the only Navy in the world able to land and take off from US carriers, which is a real performance given the size of France compared to the USA, all the more since France produces its own jet fighters and airplane carrier, as well as nuclear subs, satellites, tanks, helicopters... :)
I just would like to add than our carrier is much smaller than yours, so it is much more confortable for french pilots to land on US carriers. To land on the Charles de Gaulle, you really have to train a lot.
Peps72 I couldn't agree more with your assessment of the CBS Journalist. She came off as pompous and arrogant, and obviously very uninformed. Like the time that she started laughing in the face of the French Pilot that she was interviewing when he said that US carriers were so much bigger than the Charles De Gaulle. The CBS journalist definitely missed the point about the reason for this mission. Viewers of this report were left wanting to see and hear more of the reason for this mission, not about the daily life of a sailor on board the carrier. As you stated before the reason for this mission became secondary to this reporter. In that case they should've re-titled the story "Typical look at life aboard an aircraft carrier".
@@Gsmooth10455 Thanks, we agree for sure (I am French citizen by the way)! I am afraid the reportage was formated for the US audience (basically to show the US military muscle), cause there was so much more to say, like the French Navy pilotes do part of their training in the US, while some few F-18 also landed on the French carrier in a recent past. Cause beside France & UK, no other country in the world can land airplanes on US carriers. Despite its relatively small size, France keeps an (expensive) home made aircraft carrier, with home made airplanes, and funy enough, I think the level of connexion between the 2 armies has reached a peak these days (French army needs US army basically, like logistic airplanes such as C17s for the Barkhane operation in Sahel), a dramatic achievement since after Irak dispute, the armies had stopped their collaboration :).

Particulier VDM we don’t need it tho
What is the point lmao. For example, the UK has 2, yes 2 aircraft carriers. It is not nuclear-powered (some very big advantages in being non-nuclear BTW) or CATOBAR but that ensures that the UK does not experience a void in carrier capability every time an aircraft carrier goes into maintenance or a refit, like the french are experiencing right now with the De Gaulle. France wanted their carrier to be like one of the americans' and that ended up so darn expensive they could only afford one. They could've emulated some of the sensible choices the british made and they could have had 2 carriers as well.

Without the "Royale", the French navy so, which then defeated the English Royal Navy, which behaved before this defeat as a true dictator of the seas for the benefit of the economy and the interests of England (in the 18th century, finally in peace with its European neighbors for more than 20 years, France under the will of King Louis XV had been able to put a lot of its means to build a navy as powerful as that of England, the only Navy in the world at that time able to beat the Royal Navy), never without doubts the USA would exist today as an independent republic, or at least never since 1776.
The French Navy is also very closely linked by facts to the History of the USA, it is even the most important military player which ultimately allowed the creation of your free Republic.

I would like to have a Catobar in our "aircraft", but it's very expensive (even UK with the new aircraft too)
In NATO ships (integrated forces) it's not strange; US Osprey landing on spanish aircraft ua-cam.com/video/Y-v7_gvGA-Q/v-deo.html or the full integration from years ago between Spanish Armada and the US Navy with the AEGIS system in the east Mediterranean (Syria) or with ships and spanish F-18 and Eurofighters close to North-east Russia. What about the US withdrawing from Syria without previous advise ? Macron is right, NATO is brain-dead ! But I understand your opinion, as a former military, you have been well formatted.
France uses 200 naval aeronautics aircraft divided into 15 flotillas and 3 squadrons, or 4000 sailors, anchored in 4 aeronautical bases. France has 4 nuclear ballistic missile submarines, 6 nuclear attack submarines
we are having failure in paired analysis in valuation here. its unclear if its just a matter of needing more time, moutard, or undermining.
Wow-- talk about multi-national strike groups and cooperation! Soon, the Queen Elizabeth will deploy with a Marine F-35 unit and it won't be long perhaps for a French squadron to deploy on an American carrier. That's interoperability!
I find it interesting that us and french carrier launch catapult systems are compatible. Im curious if a Superhornet could take off from the French Carrier. Its a bigger heavier jet than the French Rafale
They set the catapults and arresting wires for the weight of the plane since all are not the same weight.
The catapult from the French carrier is made in USA, same model as the Nimitz class

" And they have wine too; it's good for the moral :)
Just an additional note: France has only 4 aircraft carriers but universities are free; education for everyone whatever their income, before the military.
