This was an incredible cover!! Listen, if you don’t mind, I’d love to hear your process for choosing your alternate tuning. From what I understand, matching the open tuning with the key of the song makes it easier to play since you’ll be able to play more open notes. I understand everyone has a different process, but what I noticed from you is that you usually put the song into an opening tuning (ex. Open D, C, etc) and then use a capo to adjust to the key. For example, you tuned your guitar to Open D and then used a capo to transpose it to the key of E Major, which is the key Mac Miller wrote the song in. Is my thought process correct here? What I’m genuinely curious about is why why you chose Open D instead of Open C - would Open C tuning and a capo on the 4th fret and Open D with a capo on the 2nd both sound the same? Please excuse my naivety I’m just so curious and eager to learn! I’m honestly so impressed by your work and a detailed answer from you would definitely be a game changer in my playing. Thanks so much bud!
Hey man, thanks so much for your comment! You really captured how I approach arranging songs. I gravitate toward open tunings (like Open C, D, G, etc.) for exactly the reasons you mentioned. And you're right, open C with a capo on the 4th fret does sound similar to open D with a capo on the 2nd fret. I chose to stick with open D for a few reasons: 1. This song has a more melancholic vibe and open D's tone fits that better since it’s not as bright as open C. 2. Having the capo on the 2nd fret instead of the 4th gives me more room for chord shapes and enhances the resonance of the strings. 3. I also love incorporating harmonic notes into my arrangements, and the 2nd fret capo placement helps with that. I hope this answers your question! Feel free to ask if you have more, it really means a lot that you find my work impressive. I'm equally impressed with how you arrange fingerstyle covers! Your work is awesome, and I'd love to see you post more!
@@johnMP670 You truly made my night John, thank you so much! Your thought process is very straightforward and easily understandable; I really appreciate you taking time to explain your logic! I’m so fortunate to have the ability to talk to incredibly gifted musicians such as yourself. I’m at that point where I want to create, so I decided to train my ear to pick out melodies, bass, and harmony. It’s not perfect but I’ve come a long way. Just tabbed out “I had some help” by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen and now just need to practice it. Believe me it sounds awesome😂 Thanks for complimenting my work as well man, it means a lot. You’ll be getting more questions from me in the near future haha. All the best John!
That's great to hear! Just keep going at it man. Like with everything in life, the more you practice the better you get and I can tell you've been arranging songs for a pretty long time. Thank you again for leaving a thoughtful comment, you made my night as well!

Which Mic and interface used?
I use the Shure SM57 for my microphone and a Focusrite Scarlett Solo for my interface!
