Congrats John! i know these exams are designed to test knowledge and skills. i'm currently working on security +, using the professor messer series of videos and a comprehensive book. Looking to work in cybersecurity
Thanks! I started with Professor Messer and would say his content is great. I was thinking to get my Security+ next but I think I will do a vendor specific cert for next year. Good luck!
Thanks John! Congrats on your efforts. You have inspired and confirmed what I have been doing. I had thought about spending money on expensive resources, but nothing is more priceless than putting in the work to get it done.
Hey Mr, I know I'm JUST over 1 year late but...Congratulations on passing your exam, well done! I really enjoyed how you made this video, basically, you got straight to the point. Awesome.
Congratulations on passing your exam! I hope you get a job in the field you are after! Competition can be quite tough out there! Good luck on your next endeavors!
I passed my network+ certification too, first try. Read and study as much as you can. Lot of questions are troubleshooting type questions and knowing what protocols will help on getting the right answers.
Exam cram book are great. Reason is after each section they quiz ya. Many books you need to read 20 or more pages and do the questions and your like what? These small section quizes help ya remember and study well
I took the Comptia Security + I missed by 100 points i dont know why i didn't go for the network + but im now studying and hopefully i can get a story like yours.
Whats next? After taking a year off , especially with COVID and working from home with kids, I am back to my studies and working towards the Cisco CCNA. I was thinking of going with the Linux+ but prefer networking since I have the net+ as a foundation. Maybe I will go with Linux+ after the CCNA. What are you working on for 2021?
Cheers, Jon. Although I'm late to congratulate, congratulations on passing the exam. I am a student at one of the universities in Puerto Rico, studying to be IT. I will graduate from my Bachelor's degree in 2022. This summer I'm studying for the network + so I can quickly land a job in IT when I graduate, probably if I don't feel ready to take the exam before finishing this summer I could wait for the next version, since supposedly this version retires in August. Wish me good luck!
Hi, I haven’t really applied to any jobs outside of my company because I love where I work. Once I got the certification I saw an internal job posted for a network technician position. I applied and reached out to the manager and got a response that they received my application and resume. I checked back and the job posting hasn’t closed yet. Truth is most companies prefer someone with experience configuring and installing routers and switches and/or to have a Cisco certification. I am working to study for my Cisco can certification.
Took a college course and am taking the exam in 3 weeks. Even with the full class under my belt I am so nervous. Looking everywhere for help to prepare
Good luck and make sure you take practice exams. Don't memorize the exams but learn from them. The day before I had to relax and watched a comedy show. I was burned out from studying. If you pass great and if you don't keep at it.
Hi. Overall I’d say a few months. The week or two before the exam I took 1 full day work day (8 hours) to study. The week of the exam I took two days to prepare. The closer I got to the exam I did lots of flash cards and practice exams. Day before I did a practice exam and reviewed some topics but then just relaxed home and watched stand up comedy to help keep me relaxed.
Good video! How many hours did you study per day or did you study for 25 minute blocks? did you study everyday or take days off? I would really love to know the details. Thank you and congratulations!
I studied most days. Some nights I studied after kids were in bed for about 3-4 hours. Some days I didn't study to give myself a break. If I did I just made up my time on the weekend. That is when I really kicked it up. I would study for at least 4 -5 hours. During that time I would concentrate on one thing only. Read the chapter. Revisit what I didn't understand and test myself. If I did poorly I would evaluate my weakness and cocnerntrate on that subject. In all don't be hard on yourself if things are not perfect and if you miss a day of studying. Make some goals, buy the exam voucher and schedule your exam. Once I scheduled it that helped keep me accountable. Knowing that there was a true deadline in writing really helped a lot. Good luck and don't stop learning.
Cool I’m abt to start studying for the Net + At first I was unsure if I should just skip the Net + all together and go for my CCNA. What are do u plan on completing next?
Hello and thank you. I thought of going for the CCNA. Personally I want to get that certification but wasn't ready for it and want to build my cert path. I would like to still get the CCNA but thinking to go for my Security+ before that. The reason is if I ever wanted to renew my Sec+ it should auto renew my Net+. I could be wrong but I am also interested in IT Security. In all it doesn't hurt to get my security plus and a manager in infosec told me to go for it. Go for what keeps you engaged and continue learning. Don't stop there.
Congrats on passing your Network+ exam 🔥🔥👌... Question: What makes the exam hard? The way the questions are asked or the information that you need to remember? I don't know if I'm making sense🤣🤣...
I think since it was my first certification that is a reason why it was hard. To learn about networking in general for me was a challenge vs the A+ or Sec+, although I didn't take those exams. I think it was hard because on how the questions are asked. They give good scenarios and one has to figure out what the issue or resolution. Hope this helps.
Hello Duane, it took me about 4 months. In the beginning I was not as consistent with my studies but having life responsibilities and married with two kids was the challenge. Once I scheduled the exam that really helped keep me accountable. I didn't schedule it till about 2 months later after I purchased the exam voucher. Also I didn't want to go into the holiday season studying for an exam. I would say 4 months is a good starting point and if you need more that's okay but I personally wouldn't take 6 months to study for it. Right now I'm working towards my Cisco CCNA certification. Good luck and don't stop learning.
I almost purchased the Mike Meyers book but found out that my company has it online for free but preferred the size of the Exam Cram to carry with me everywhere.
Hello hitootoko, I am sorry to read that you still failed. I can imagine the feeling failing a 3rd time. I think there be could some reasons of failing the exam the 2nd and 3rd time. Test taking skills is a possibility and being able to pass the performance based questions could be another. I know using a practice exam was essential to me working on my time management skills during the test and being able to better understand how things work versus memorizing answers. I am not sure if this would help but I spoke to someone at work when I passed my exam who stated out of a class of 40 only a few were able to pass when he took the exam. It is not an easy exam. I hope this helps but at the end remember you still learned a new skill and although you did not pass it will still show the hiring manager and company that you are persistent and willing to continue on to further your career and knowledge in IT. Good luck and remember, getting the certification is not the goal but its a journey. It should not stop there.
@@infotechyeti thanks. Yeah first time I took the wrong test. But yeah. I think I forgot how to study effectively and it killed me. I'm slowly trying to better understand the material. I just am struggling to motivate myself to get back on a study schedule again
@@hitootoko give yourself a break and maybe study a different topic. Also one thing I can say that helped me was the flash cards. I almost didn't want to go through the ccna because of some similar subjects but I found myself getting excited about some new things I'm learning. Stay strong. Take a break but not too long.
Hi Cynthia. If you get the Net+ certification you can search any jobs related to that. I have seen technician jobs posted with this certification. I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to get a job. Depends what kind of job you are looking for. Good luck!
Hi John, sorry I haven’t updated a video in a while but hopefully soon. I’m still debating my next certification but one thing I do know is that I will be working towards my Security+ then the CCNA. I was thinking to go Linux but I like networking and security more. I know my company like many has a hiring freeze so I doubt any opportunities will arise with the pandemic. I haven’t searched outside of my job because I like where I work. If by the time I have my other certifications no job has posted internally I will search for another job. I hope to get my certifications by end of next year.
I don’t have my A+. I jumped straight into the N+. I thought about the A+ but being that I am in a desktop support role I did not see the value. Plus I was more curious about networking than the A+. Some jobs require it depending the kind of industry you are looking to get into. The A+ is good if your are trying to get into the help desk or pc repair role.
Hi John. Congrats on passing your Net+. I'm glad you found the Subnetting Mastery series helpful =) Thank you for referring learners to that content.

I can’t recall honestly but I would prepare to know what an IPv6 address looks like. I think I might have had a question. Hope this helps.

I'd recommend Mike Meyers book because it provides more detailed information but the one I used and presented in the video works well.

I personally don't think going for ccna is necessary for cyber security. I would focus on maybe another IT Security cert and look into Linux.

I used Cisco Packet Tracer to learned about configuring routers and setup a small networks. Highly recommended but not necessary for the exam.
