  • Maggie and Dom Altobelli say they are “forever grateful” to the team of doctors at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia after a team performed a ten-hour surgery to separate conjoined twins Addy and Lily. Head surgeon Dr. Holly Hedrick joins TODAY to talk about the teamwork it took to perform the surgery successfully. “Hundreds of people were involved in the care of Lily and Addy and I’m so proud of all of them,” Dr. Hedrick says.

“Procedure” suggests a minimally invasive thing. Like a day surgery like a colonoscopy. This was a major surgery

@4:14 When one of the show hosts said to Maggie, "You're part of a special sisterhood my friend. I also have twins, I have three." Did she mean she has 3 sets of twins or that they're 3yrs old because it sounded like she has 3 sets of twins? 👶🏻👶🏻🍼 👶🏻👶🏻🍼 👶🏻👶🏻🍼 🧸🧸 💝💝

I think she meant she has 3 kids, one set of twins and then another kid.

The separation is extremely traumatic physically, it will take time to fully heal, and will need help for a while.
Heck, they would probably of not survived a few decades ago….or stay joined till death.
Heck, probably would of killed the Mom.

The first doctor to do it is Ben Carson, so this isn’t a big deal because it’s been done before, when Ben did it it was a huge deal becoming the first ever doctor to do it

The first successful separation did not happen in the United States. It happened in 1971 in Myanmar.

Its always a big deal when a surgery like this is successful cause ANYTHING can go wrong.
Ben Carson did not do the first separation surgery. He did one of the first to separate at the head. He's a neurosurgeon not a general surgeon.

"This isn't a big deal" ? ? ? ? If they were YOUR twins I'm sure it would the biggest deal in your life. How rude!

@@louiseparisotto3630 you didn’t understand what I was saying, The procedure isn’t a big deal because it was already done before they was making it seem like this is the first ever separation which it wasn’t that’s what I was talking about

@@beachbayareajr455 where in the video did they say or even imply this was the first ever separation of conjoined twins? Seems like you just really wanted to give a shout out to Ben Carson for whatever reason…
