As a retired dentist, I've worked in "State type" system and in the "Private" system. I noticed that many of us worked to the same standards...BUT there were others whose attitude in the public service was less than desirable...and in the private sector there was pressure to perform optimally so as to retain patients and earn more by working harder/smarter. Thus I believe that patients generally get better service through private service.
Such confidence in the logistics of the NHI when it has not even been implemented yet, our hospitals DO not have same facilities, and we are entrusting our money into the hands of the government (remember Covid corruption)…. quite short-sighted
nothing is free, maintenance of infrastructure is not free and you don't pay for it directly..that's what taxes are for. so the same will apply here..what is being said you will not need to pay the service provider as the "Fund" will pay for it, all you have to do is pitch up to your nearest HCP and follow the system.
I think the point is that instead of paying R2000-R8000pm to medical aid schemes, people will take a tax increase of much less than their premium. It is possible to get the same care for less money because the state becomes the single buyer on behalf of patients rather than having loads of smaller medical aid schemes as buyers, which eliminates a lot of inefficiency. There are many kinds of inefficiencies in medical aids vs the NHI as a single buyer, but in principle think of the difference between buying power of bulk buying vs individuals buying small amounts.
I can no longer afford health care. 😔So in theory this would appear to be a godsend for me. In truth….however, I am terrified of the damage. We do not have a single, functioning state institution nor ANC municipality😢. The outcome is the equivalent of subsidising a centralised monopolised criminal syndicate.
As I understand in some provinces the state cannot even provide sufficient kidney dialysis facilities leaving the doctors to sadly decide who will benefit and who will not. Currently the private medical aid payer can safely assume when ever they develop the need for kidney dialysis the service will be made available. The certainty (which we are paying for) will be taken away and yet we will be expected to contribute as much or even more than what we are paying now. I forsee the middle class will eventually have to buy additional insurance to secure this benefit forbwhen it is needed
There might be a lot of space and money in private health care. The simple question is does government have the right to that space and money. Currently it seems like the hope is that congestion in the public health care will be eliviated by getting the private health care payers to foot the bill and at the same time potentially diminish the service they are paying for.
-if the NHI found runs out fund like many other state run institutions who will pay for the medical service already provided? - As it stands not all medical aservice provider accpets medical Aid, they want you to pay cash and then you claim from your nedical aid, because of the time if takes for the medical service perovider to recupe their monies and cover their overheads timely. - Also, NB! If your fond does not settle the medical bill, your as the patient is still responsible for the bill. What i forsee, is alot of law suites between the medical service provider and the fond(NHI), it will be a legal 'fest' like what is happening with RAF.... -The SABC journalist/intervier seems to be doing a 'sunshine' journalism - The Dr. only seems to critise the private healthy provider and not mentioning the corruption, incompetences and true politic will to address the real issues.
Listen to the talk by the Discovery Health CEO (No need to panic...Newzroom Africa)...He says that the Government committee ignored all the submitted suggestions and made absolutely no concessions to their concerns. Does the ANC think that they no longer need to listen to the "clever" people ?
He better not say anything bad about what the cadres want to use to loot... Otherwise he cant eat as well...if he does criticise it then he may be eliminated by the hitmen
Nicholas you are only the deputy Director general Please provide us with the name of the ANC cadre deployed director general who is in hiding as he most likely is not fit for purpose
Will the money be safe or its going to be looted. What destroyed the hospitals can't continue in destroying again? If you are going to allow illegal foreigners or illegal foreigners to use them without pay or change laws that favors them , and stop the looting then you are doing nothing but to waste our hard earned money that we are supposed to feed our children with. You really don't care about SAfricans. Unless this is another way for looting.
They have spent our taxes on themselves and their families. Now we have to pay more tax to fix the mess they have created. They must be looking forward to awarding tenders to their friends and family. Another cash supply for the cadres.
Great initiative. I would think that any medical graduate from our universities should have to serve all the people of South Africa. This would eliminate the stock broker mentality that has invaded medicine.

How is it "for free" when the employed will be paying extra tax? Stop sugar coating the NHI.
Wash your ears and listen again...if you got a brain...you will understand whats going on....

The government will never be able to administer such a huge project....
You are 100% correct.
might work if they have it privately administrated.
the bill has a audited board ,its not just random people

He only has a hospital plan? He's a liar.
Exactly and he is part of the middle class and medical aid costs 30k a month, he lies more than the president and his cadres
That part, I thought I was only one listening 🤔🫣🤐🫢😷
No he is not, he just has enough money to pay cash for day to day stuff..lucky guy :)
