    You are as usual correct regarding standard supplied E39 tools included for US. The spark plug tools and triangle. The warning triangle is not approved for US but they’re required in all cars in Germany. You need to import one.
    No cloth in the E39.

    Good afternoon, nice presentation. The last tool is used to remove the wheels center cap on non m5 e39. (The side that is like flat screwdriver). My wheels are BMW LA WHEEL STAR SPOKE 83 and its perfect to remove the centre cap.

    When looking at used E38 or E39 it's an OCD for me but a HUGE Red Flag for me if a lot of tools are missing. I will low ball them really hard because I start finding all sorts of things missing, messed up, etc. Etc.. Etc... I purchased a Triangle, like you, to complete my kit,. I also slipped in the spark plug wrench a wheel hanger. I also have Coat Hangers, Duct Tape coolant/distilled water & oil in the Trunk too! When things go wrong the more tools and safety items you have the better off you are.

    I've read on several occations that the M5 does not have the 17mm wheel crank tool from factory due to having flat tyre spray and an air compressor in the trunk. Neither of my MY 2000 M5 had that, if it's correct or not I don't know, I added one anyway, better safe than sorry imo. The triangle is mandatory in most if not all of Europe, you need to present it to the MOT/TüV-guy anyways.

      Most M5s I see do have the lug crank in the box, but I have no idea if it was there from the factory or not.

    I have everything but the cloth for my e34 530 manual. The triangle case does fit in there with the velcro strap. I owned the car for 19 years and found odds and ends. There is a square place where fuses or light bulbs could go. I would like to know more about the flares. I have a extinguisher that is the size of a big flashlight that puts out gas fires very quickly. Ethanol is hard on the original lines. I learned about this at a Porsche Club Seminar.

    Thank you, I have searched high and low for these tools I have to tow-hook that I used but not for towing my 530i 2001 thankfully! I purchased my Bimmer when it had only 000,002 miles and it never broke down. In fact it never stalled out except one time. It was may fault that caused it to stall. I had 2 gals of gas left over from last summer for my lawnmower that I poured into the fuel tank of my Bimmer. Before you ask, the fuel I use the same fuel for my $1,000 Honda HRX217HZA key start self-propelled mower and that is Exxon's super. But, 2 seasons ago I went to my local Honda power equipment store to purchase the mower. As you well know, there no way to tie down the trunk. I transported (still do to have my mower serviced at the start and end of each seanon) the mower in the trunk and I use the tow-hook as a point for tying the rope. Anyway, until now, I was unable to find the rest of the tools to complete the set. Thank yo...

    My touring came with the triangle? Wonder if someone added it. 2000 528it (turbo s52 swapped) car was out of Florida built 22 July 2000. #12 Makes no sense threaded. Why thread the hole twice. Why not just thread a lug in to hold the wheel? Seems like a time suck .

    • @E39Source

      The threaded tool can hold the wheel while you get the bolt holes perfectly lined up and the studs ready. The bolts won't allow the wheel to slide on if put on before. That's one badass wagon!

      @@E39Source I was lucky enough to have one bad coil. I doubt you rememeber, but I had this problem 2 years ago and I was asking you questions on FB, thought it was bad gas, or something. Turns out it was the coil, yay. Loss of power when flooring it, engine shaking like crazy, sound is different, all back to normal after restart, but I couldn't drive fast basically. I can't believe the problem was so easy to fix, nobody even suggested that it might be the coils on the forums. Now, just to fix the oil leaks, the fun never ends.

    I've always liked these BMW tool trays but have to say that Rover in the UK had a tool tray which slid under the passenger side of the dash from the early '30s to the '70s. These were foam rubber lined and the tools were of vastly higher quality than anything BMW have supplied. From about 1955 the tray had touch-up paint containers with a brush in the cap and later versions even had polishing compound in the cap. If you had duotone paint then you got one for each colour! Water pump pliers have always seemed to me to be useless - I don't know why plumbers use them. Oh yes, and you didn't need to use the screwdriver for leverage on the box spanners as you got what is called a Tommy Bar in the UK. It's nice to feel (slightly) superior for once.

  • @Markjw25
    @Markjw25 2 роки тому

    Fun Fact: BMW used to sell a warning triangle that was illuminated with LED lights powered either by supplied batteries or 12v socket cable. Sadly that part is also long since discontinued.
    But yes later cars like my 2003 M5's have a different tool kit tray. Tools are the same. Difference is no wheel lock holder and the warning triangle is different and slightly smaller than the old one and comes in a red case. Nice thing is this triangles case will fit in the tray. It's not locked down by a strap. But it's still heavy enough to where it doesn't rattle at all. Now all you need is the "Illustration of 3 stowed bodies" sticker to go with the golf club one. Or three stowed hookers like I have hahaha.
