Cheryl Miller should have liked Angel from the first day of practice when she hit that shot from half court. She and Arike were the only two to do it, and they foreshadowed what was going to happen in the game. I think she had preconceived notions about Angel and favored Caitlyn Clark during the game.

Why? A heave type shot from half court shows what? Teams do this all the time and different players make that shot. If you had said something about how she looked hustling and communicating at practice that would make much more sense. Caitlin was fine at PG. She got 10 assists, a rookie record. 2nd half was the Arike show and I sure enjoyed it. Reese got a double double and Clark connected with Reese once. Clark was a starter and starters get more minutes. Reese got the 2nd most minutes of any WNBA all star coming off the bench. Gray had the most and scored 16 points.
Arike and Angel have great chemistry. I wish Arike was traded to Chicago.

The bias was there. At one point they took her out and put CC back in and seemed like the USA team was starting to gain ground. Every negative thing they say about Angel is false. The players and the fans love her. However CC is awkward AF, and if attention is not being focused on her she shuts down. Angel don't give a damn about getting attention because of her confidence. I believe the media had made a terrible image of Angel Reese and plenty of people got sidetracked by the image. I was not happy about CC getting hella minutes and Angel’s lack of minutes … but in the end ANGEL did work with the little time she did get. So proud of Angel she earned that Double Double. CC however was lack luster and still got more playing time, tv time, and media exposure… didn’t live up to the hype on the stage with the very best of the best on the court.
That explains why Angel didn’t get a lot of minutes at first…

No, people criticized Reese for the worst sportsmanship act ever in a championship. Then people got defensive (and Staley had already tried to frame Iowa's coach as racist by trying to put words in her mouth with "We're not monkeys...thugs". Iowans were fine with the loss and would have been looking ahead, but they believe in fair play and don't back down from bullies. This made a lot of people mad, who thought they can run around crying racist and get away with it. This is just psychology 401 in play. Reese is EXTREMELY insecure and always focused on approval (in the form of adoration). Cheryl understands this weakness and that withholding this is a path to bringing Reese into the fold. Reese has to ''earn it'' - Miller ''might'' give it. But if Reese puts in work to gain recognition from Miller, she will be positioning herself as the one aspiring (following) in their dynamic. This IS the type of relationship dynamic that she needs (and other coaches failed to establish). Cheryl understands that Clark needs to look up to, follow, and learn from a coach...but first she must earn the right to receive this direction.

Respect is given and a person has no choice but to respect you when you put that work in I used to hate Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant being from Philadelphia when those guys will come to town especially Kobe and win on our court. I was an Allen Iverson fan but you could not do anything but respect their hard work and game. When you are cut from a certain cloth you just don't give out titles, the goat and elite are given to those who are proven. Miller loves the game of basketball and appreciates the opportunity to coach. Angel and Miller share the same love of basketball. Angel looked very relaxed when she repeated Miller’s comment. Angel truly enjoyed that moment. Angel has received a lot of hatred from trolls and Miller’s comments were meant to put Angel at ease now and for the rest of her career.

Let's break down valuation: How much is a view worth? ...The NBA just got a new $73.8 Billion deal, for 11 years, to which they added the $2.2 Billion dollar deal for the WNBA. (The Media did no deal with the WNBA, it was the NBA - the majority owner of the WNBA - that worked in the $2.2 billion). The NBA has 1,230 reg season games averaging 1.62 million viewers, equaling 1,992,600,000 views and about 90 playoff games averaging 4.53 million views, equaling 407,700,000 for a grand total of 2,400,300,000 or 2.4 billion views - take this times 11 years and we arrive at 26,403,300,000 billion views in 11 years (based on current viewership levels. If we divide the 26.4 billion views into the $73.8 billion deal, we come up with about $2.80 as a value per view.
If, for the WNBA in this upcoming 11 year period, we estimate growth to an average of 16 teams and the number of season games to 44 that would be a total of 352 reg. season games and about 45 playoff games. Estimates based upon current tv viewership would only give a rough foundation, with only 25 national games , at 1.32 million viewers and 43 on Ion, with at most 700,000 per game. Yet, to make a (very optimistic) comparative model we will calculate for all games being broadcast with an average of 1 million viewers - which is extremely generous (because we know some team's markets are very weak in broadcast value). At most we will estimate 397 million total views ,rounding up to 0.4 billion views - again being generous. If we are to value WNBA views at $2.80 each, like the NBA views, then the total deal value should be about.... $1,120,000,000 or $1.12 billion for the WNBA. With this, we are being VERY GENEROUS assuming all games are broadcast and average a million views. (This means we need another CC or two)

This sounds discouraging, but it is not, the optimism for growth ground was already given by Adam Silver. But we cannot expect even more based on growth optimism. . . I would love to be Cheryl's hard negotiator. There are strong angles to be presented (to justify $8B), but it cannot be ''growth''. Silver already conceded (a billion) on the unproven theory of growth. Rather it should be based on two existing examples of income potential and one that has not been tapped whatsoever. The two existing have been re-revealed by CC: College fame and merch. CC reminded everyone that basketball stars are best-made in college. Not only can a star build a great foundational legend in their fledgling years, striking deeper into fans hearts - they can actually BRING these NEW fans to the WNBA. In order to build more college stars the college system has to be COMPLETELY revamped, and then well-managed. Once a college legend is built, the merch opportunities grow 10,000 to 1,000,000 fold (as in Clark's case). There is an immense HUNGER for female superstar athletes. Women don't play football or baseball. Soccer isn't big enough. Basketball merch is ...Queen. Girl Superstar merch WILL outpace the sales for men.
And, something more, something untapped - the overseas market, in Asia primarily. People don't understand the psychology there: trends there are like tidal waves, making our biggest trends look like pond ripples. The WNBA has to do pointed outreach - from the college years (Imagine if CC and the Hawkeyes had been promoted, in a big way, to nearly every kid in Asia....right!). They can do this for future college stars. Once they do, the merch sales will skyrocket (only Kobe succeeded in this - in no small part due to his awareness of international culture).
