Sadly, it is true they ran out of money and Book 4-5 really shows it lol. Book 5 was so rushed that they had to conclude parts of the story with characters stating more than once "Because that's how the story goes and it's been written". It's as if they they lost their writers towards the end. I can only imagine the disaster they had with Unity 4 engine and having to port the game to Unity 5 cost them dearly.
