- With a career that began in the middle of the Napoleonic era, Niccolò Paganini inaugurated the model of a virtuoso who would dominate the international scene in the first half of the 19th century. His 24 Caprices for Solo Violin, published in Milan in 1820, are a monument to violinist literature and an inexcusable point of reference for later composers. At the same time, his figure would inspire violinists-composers as shown in Nathan Milstein's Paganiniana, a collage based on original motifs of the famous Genoese violinist (among others, his very recognizable "Caprice No. 24").

This one heck of a performance. Stumbled on Tai looking on Spotify for recordings of Ysaye's sonatas. I don't think you could expect much better than this!
I like how she takes her time with the notes, so you can hear the beauty of the piece! She did absolutely wonderful!
For some reason I feel like this would closely resemble how Paganini used to play this. I can see him plying this piece like this
This is very much in the more improvisatory, more aggressive old-style of violin performance, and I absolute love that! Reminds me of the great Jewish masters like Ivry Gitlis, Isaac Stern, and of course, Nathan Milstein!

The sweat on the neck makes it so intense.
It's good but the sound is quite metalik, probably because oglf the recording
She plays like a promising first-year student. It's good by any normal person standard, but... as soon as you listen to a performance by literally anyone on the front page when you search "Paganiniana" on UA-cam, you hear noticeably more technically solid performances by people who aren't big-name soloists in the Western world either. Consistent tempos, no hesitations, no bow skidding... like Zeyu Victor Li, or Richard Lin. Who are they? People on the first page whose names I don't recognize, who can play Paganiniana like it isn't the hardest thing they can get through.
She isn't a big named soloist either , she's not labeled as some mega huge big named violinist she simply went to Juliard and made a name for herself . The people you named are competition winners and were (are) child prodigies so I don't think it's fair to group her with the rest of them .
If this is what a first year violin student can play like, then I want to learn how
to play a violin. OMG she did a beautiful job. I hear Paganiniana is a bear to

needs to read re: Tai Murray: "Winner of an Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2004,
Tai Murray was named a BBC New Generation Artist (2008 through 2010). As a
chamber musician, she was a member of Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society II
(2004-2006) She has performed as guest soloist on the main stages world-wide,
performing with leading ensembles such as the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra,
Royal Liverpool Symphony Orchestra, and all of the BBC Symphony Orchestras.
She is also a dedicated advocate of contemporary works (written for the violin).
Among others, she performed the world premiere of Malcolm Hayes’ violin concerto
at the BBC PROMS, in the Royal Albert Hall.Tai Murray’s critically acclaimed debut
recording for of Ysaye’s six sonatas for solo violin was released in 2012. Her second recording with works by American Composers of the 20th Century was released by the
Berlin-based label and her third disc with the Bernstein Serenade on the French label ."
Highly disagree. She didn’t miss a note and her interpretation is so unique. Doubt you’re a violinist who’s capable of appreciating a performance like this.
