excellent video. We did not tighten down the middle bolt super tight because it keeps it from snapping back, We used blue threadlock once you find that "sweet spot" and make sure to test it before putting the cover back on the flywheel to make sure you can pull the string and it snaps back the way it should.
I just had the same problem, but I put a washer below the plate (same bolt but under plate) and it worked perfectly. This stopped it from pinching and allowed it to recoil
My new spring did not have an open ended clamp. When I cut the retaining wire, the hook was past the slot. While moving the hook around to the slot, SPROING!! A bird nest. Now I'm watching vids on rewinding the spring, lol.
So this will probably help many people out there . I bought a after market kit. It looks the same as the one in the video. You put it all together and the ratchet arm does not engage!!. I took it apart many times just confused why it wasn't engaging. Well I brought the friction spring to the vise and pinch it a bit more that it was very tough to put on the plate. It stays in place and worked perfectly after. I hope this helps someone . I saw a comment on here that a guy had the same problem but no one got back to him. That was 4 years ago. I'm sure he figured it out by now . lol
I’m putting mine together too. I cannot get it to engage. If I do, the rope won’t retract. I saw someone mention a “sweet spot”! I cannot find it! HELP!
Seems like a poor design; if you have to leave the bolt loose to allow it to retract. Loctite will help but I like it when bolts work as intended, without the smurf pee. I’m not sure how long the loctite will keep the bolt from loosening(or tightening it seems), hopefully for a long time but who knows. I wondered if a thin washer on the threaded post that sticks out would help any.
Great, helpful vid! As soon as he said ‘Polaris recoil stahtahs’ I knew this was NH. We moved to VA not too long ago, and man I didn’t think I would miss home or the accent this soon lol. The other thin I miss about NH is no sales tax(or INCOME tax!!). Also seems like there are 3-4x the amount of used ATV’s up there, for less $ than here. And oh ya, NO F IN SALES TAX! Haha happy riding
So, how come when I tighten..or snug the bolt down, the pulley sticks when its supposed to reel the pull rope back in, BUT if I leave the bolt loose, it's works fine...(I know that bolt WILL fall out if I keep it loose). I actually added grease to the pulley, spring, friction clip, etc.
I followed your directions to a T but for some reason my dog leg won’t kick out to engage flywheel. I have the clip on the friction cup parallel like you showed. What else could be wrong that it doesn’t wanna kick out?
Could possibly be that you tightened the bolt down too much. Make sure it's lubed/ well greased. If you're still running into problems, text us at 603-329-9901 and we'll connect you with a tech
Should add lube up the metal friction plate so the dawg comes out, and if you don’t grease the plastic bushing. The pull cord won’t go all the way in either. Learned these the hard way lol
Hey Jordan - our kit comes with the spring inside the clamp so ti's ready to go. You might be able to get just that clamp from Polaris if that's all you need, but you'd have to check out your local dealer for pricing & availability
Hey Rich - you have to recoil it the right way. This will probably be a big PITA but that's the only thing to do. We had to do it a bunch of times to get this video so we know your pain!
A little bit of advice..make sure you load the spring correctly. Not 'upside down. Might be a nice heads up. I'm about to unleash some 'fresh hell' #suffering
Skips the very first part I needed, I needed the part of getting the rope back on not this bullshit, and he keeps saying owners Manuel bro mines a 2002 and I got it off Craigslist for 1k like I have a fucking owners Manuel, why else would I be on UA-cam if I had a owners Manuel! Dam

That is an excellent no-nonsense video.

Perfect Video! Thank you!! Very Simple but direction was needed since I have never done a full replacement.

I’m having the same problem now. It’s all together but the arm won’t engage. How will pinching the friction spring help?

Alloutofdonuts hahaha! Check out our other videos for your accent fix, lol.
Just what I needed to complete a repair. Thanks for the vid...
great vid, I just wish it covered what to do if it tightens down too much. If I loosen it where it will snap back the bolt is only finger tight.
Yea, little more detail would been nice instead of wasting a day trying to figure out what the fuck i did wrong
Thanks for the vid. Simple & precise
What did u use for the clamp.. looks like a large snap ring...great video

Excellent tutorial. Thank YOU!!!
I used this video to put mine back together after i took it apart to try ti fix it. Now it works like new! Thank you! Great video!
Thanks man I fixed my Polaris because of u
Awesome stuff Dude... Saved me a big headache...
Sean Smith - glad to help! We figured a step by step vid on this would be helpful!

do you have this for an '01 Xplorer two stroke?
What bike was this for? I need that exact cover
any idea why oil would have filled the area where my pull start is on my Magnum 330 2x4?
Any links or the gasket kit? I’m having extreme difficulty find the part number

This video helped me out a bunch. Good thing I only had to tie a knot on the old rope and not replace the spring.
rogeloio saavedra crankshaft seals possibly gone bad unseated
Great vid easy to follow
Will reel fit yamaha bayou 220 1995??
No, sorry
How long should the rope be ?
I replaced my rope and reassembled but in won't engage on the engine. the arm and spring seems right.
Did u fix it I'm now having same issue
Where did you get that recoil spring clamp!? Having a heck of a time trying to get that spring wound up, and in place without that clamp.
Hey Jordan - our kit comes with the spring inside the clamp so ti's ready to go. You might be able to get just that clamp from Polaris if that's all you need, but you'd have to check out your local dealer for pricing & availability
where can i buy these parts / kit?
What size and thread type of bolt. My kit was missing the bolt.... 😡
Call us & we’ll send you one!
I can’t seem to get the ratchet arm to work properly
You made it look way easier to get that rope through than it is. Also I didn't get a gasket in my kit. No biggie but just a fyi
Very nice vid. Thanks
what happens if you get the recoil spring upside down/ back to front?
Hey Rich - you have to recoil it the right way. This will probably be a big PITA but that's the only thing to do. We had to do it a bunch of times to get this video so we know your pain!
The friction plate spring has to be the opposite of this video, the 2 prongs should be on the left from my experience.
Exactly
Thank You very much. very helpful.
Very nice👍👍
Thanks a lot
my center bolt keeps loosening. thread lock it?
Mine keeps tightening which doesn't allow the cord to retract.. Any suggestions?
Great video!
great vid
Helpful video, and your finger nail must hurt from the looks of it.
haha - yup!
Thanks
