Too dont like the screen going way down. The orwell screen people will be looking down and not keeping their eyes on the road. The screen is nice sometimes i just think its orwellian too its like "subscribe and pay more or i cant understand what you are saying" if we keep going down this path they wont have steering wheels and your house will only unlock you to the garage when its time to go to work. Sorry bob your social credit score isnt high enough to take debt to go to thr gas station for a snack anyway i will unlock the fridge when We get home if you be nice im your ai here to help. I'm fine with the large screens if common HVAC controls like heated seats/wheel/mirrors, defrost, etc. are hard buttons/knobs. Those are really the only things you play with while driving. And you don't want to have to go through menus to find a seat control. Also, because of the many cameras, the screens are best in a horizontal layout. The Ram and Ford Ranger are too small, and the bottom is just redundant HVAC for no reason.

Even with hard tactile controls, if the screen is large then the controls end up down near the console which is much harder to use while driving then if they were up at steering wheel level.

Rather than have all that stuff I prefer knobs for basic functions, lights, hvac, traction, etc. But, it would be interesting if they had on-board diagnostics, a scan tool and code reader built in, which I’m sure the manufacturers would never do. Good video

Granted this requires an OnStar subscription, but on the Colorado, you can call OnStar and a human will read the codes, what they mean, and common fixes for the issues. I really like that capability, but I agree, I would rather avoid subscriptions and just have on-board diagnostics.

Andrea can we get a screen and technology review on these trucks from you? Nathan really does not like the newer screens because they are not physical gauges and the review definitely suffered because of it. Nathan also appears to be a bit technologically challenged. One example was that he continued to attempt to use the voice navigation in each truck and then complained when it asked to subscribe to that service. I don't know if Nathan understands that all the owner has to do is connect their phone using the Bluetooth in the vehicle to Apple Car Play or Android Auto and bingo you have full voice navigation.

If your in a full size a 10” maybe 12” at the long end is fine, but I can’t understand why so many of these screens are any bigger than that. Also I don’t know if it’s just my car, but I don’t think these screens have nearly enough option for brightness. At night I would like to be able to turn mine down more than it goes. It’s fine and it doesn’t blind me but it’s right on the edge and it’s very annoying. Also 8-10 inches on a screen is more than enough for apple car play or android auto which is all that matters. Bigger screens don’t even seem to use all that space for anything. It’s just a bigger version of the same which isn’t helpful even in maps.

Orwell 1984. Plastic engine but a high end screen. 4 cylinders 8 injectors. Illiteracy. Saw a young woman maybe a hair younger than me texting and driving rear ended someone in her ford focus and tbe airbag didnt go off. Whats the point in airbags if after 15 years the orwell 1984 tv screen works but the airbag doesnt when its finally time that you needed it to you feel me???

I am old school in the sense, we did not have screens at all. So makes little difference to me. If you are so blind you have to have a 50 inch screen to be happy, you should not be driving. lol. All controls should be figured out and easy to use on the go if one is a fiddler with things as they go down the road. A screen is just wrong for such things IMO. Takes your eyes off the road. Or just as bad, it blinds you at night and ruins your vision. And fussing with screens whether parked or driving to do simple functions like control lights and heater, radio, etc. Bad deal. There is a place for rich tech. I just don't think it belongs here. Small screen maybe in an Infotainment screen to help you pair your phone up and use as a navigation for verbal interface is 1 thing, the rest of it, just over cumbersome. All that being said, Mercedes is who you need to turn to if that is your focal point for a road going vehicle with great tech. in it.

Nate missed the mark on the Colorado and did the truck a disservice. You can change the screens on the DIC and the system does use google maps in for navigation. It does suck that you need WiFi to make it work. I did not finish watching the video but I am sure the Yota or Ranger were his favorite.

With the higher screens I have a harder time holding my hand steady to be able to accurately interact with the screen. It's a Catch 22, do you want it easier to glance at but harder to use, or easier to use and further from driving line of sight?

Andre cannot sell that trail balls to get any money out of it until that back camera is fixed. Yes, digital screens might be the new millennium, but there is so many other people that prefer gauges. Safety aspect of the digital screens is not there when they are so far down. Taking your eyes off the road that long period of time is not a good thing.

To be honest, the screens have both become less, and more important. They have become more important as it pertains to viewing cameras and modifying the endless settings in menus. That being said, those cameras become less necessary when the vehicle has good visibility to begin with. The access controls have become less important on the brands that have invested in good voice recognition systems. The Uconnect is decent here, but Ford has really moved a lot of the controls to voice control. You can even control HVAC with it. In my opinion, voice controls supported with AI algorithms and head up display completely replacing gauge clusters is the future. So is bringing back column shifters, as they can be operated without looking at them, and free up console space. Floor shifters take up too much space, dial shifters require you to see the shift to tell the difference between detents, and button shifters also require you to look at them. Button shifters aren't cool folks. They have been on school busses for decades. There is a reason police departments require column shifters on interceptor vehicles. Ergonomics are important when it comes to controls that operate vehicle direction. Imagine driving a car with that trailer backup assist dial in lieu of a steering wheel? That would be terrifying.
