    I always carry a hook sharpener I'm my tackle bag, I love Diawa products been using them since the 1970' s
    I haven't used them in a while but I am going to get some of the newer ones .

    • @ifishcatfish

      daiwa - good. Hook sharpener - bad. You cannot sharpen a japanese hook with a any sharpener, even 20 000 grit. They are chemically or laser sharpened and u would destroy the tip with any kind of physical abrasion. I'm talking about new japanese hooks. If u have some old Eagle Claws - then it can be helpful : )

      To your first comment - the FL is not as good as this reel. It is made of metal and its heavier and has a bad startup inertia. I already fished with the FL and didn't like it. I will get the next Stradic CI4+, which will be same as FL, but in a carbon body, so it will be light and less startup inertia and better for ultralight fishing. Also i am really not a fan of the chrome color. Not sure what rod u have to buy to match it. Compare with the match of this combo?
      As for the vendor, i got it from Platt, as u can see on the page with the 50% off. I would not pay full price for this reel today, but at 50% off I want to punch myself in the nose for not buying 3 and equip all my daiwa presso rods

    Holy crap Victor. 65 reels. Yikes. You need more arms. What's with the shallow spool. It looks like it will only hold 20 feet of line. Weird. I have never seen a spool so shallow. What is the line capacity? Not that capacity is a real issue with me. I added backing to all my spools and only have about 75 yards of line on any spool. Except for salmon and blue cat fishing. I bought a Berkley Cyclone line winder 17 years ago and I got spoiled and change my line several times during the season. Especially when fishing rivers. The line gets abraded and dirty from the crap in the rivers. It is amazing how you get to like the feel of fresh line every few trips out.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 років тому

      it would make a great ice fishing reel actually. Well, for trout and crappie fishing - how much line do u use? U can cast 30 yards the most. If u hook a catfish, he can take another 30 yards. How much line do u need for panfish? This way you don't need to put filler underneath all the time. I will be putting 3 pound line though. 2lb is just not enough for me

      Americans won’t pay for good Jdm stuff. This is true when Sony made xbr TVs, when nikon and canon makes better lenses, when cars were built better when the vin started with J And the car is built in japan. This is with almost all consumer goods, it is a race to the bottom line price in America. Remove features, remove workmanship, remove build materials. Everyone just looks for a good price or bargain regardless if it is missing newer tech or more expensive items having more features.

      @@ifishcatfish you could use it for trout and crappie and yes bluegill...and even walleye say up to 6-7 pounds depends on your skill level. I have caught some big trout on the north pier St Joe on 4lb test and a long buggy whip or noodle rod. With a 455 dollar flagship trout reel it best have some good drag. Tell you what next spring I will fish for brown trout on the pier with my little $30 Shimano Sienna 1000 with 4lb Trilene low vis green on a Bass Pro MicroLite 9' 4-10lb fast action rod. You will be amazed at what that flagship reel can do. Even it you spoil it with say 10# braid. A small reel has macho juevos amigo

      i_fish I love to fish for everything except large mouth, I will not fish for them , but trout fishing with a size six panther Martin throwing up stream , the shell cracker fishing in my home lake in wonderful, and yes I do blue gill fish , and in winter I fish the deep water for walleye, I even carp fish some , but not with a reel like this , the trouble I would have buying this reel for over 400 is that I can buy four really good reels for the same money so no I would not buy it but I will buy one of the rods and bet that I will really like it and wish I had one of those reels.

    what i dont like about the daiwas:
    the bail is bulkey and heavy compared to the shimano = more startup inertia
    the rotor is more bulkey and heavy = more startup inertia
    if you will look at the daiwa's rotor you will see that its not symmetrical in both sides but not in a good way , its like they tried to fix a balance issue in a hurry or laziness..
    the spool drag clicker on the daiwa is flimsy compared to the shimano, its a different deisng
    the click on the shimano is in the spool and the clicker in the daiwa is on the shaft..

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 років тому +1

      The bail on the daiwas is HOLLOW, and weighs the same or less than Shimano's. But being thick its easier to grab with ur fingers. I much prefer daiwa's hollow bails. Look very cool.
      The rotors are both carbon in the high end reels and super lightweight and ASYMMETRIC by design, to save weight. They are so light that even with asymmetric rotor there is no balance issue. I have never seen a daiwa reel with unbalanced rotor and i have more than 50 daiwa reels.
      The startup inertia on this reel is just RIDICULOUSLY LOW. Only my shimano vanquish has better startup inertia. Cheap daiwa LT reels have excellent startup intertia.
      The clickers are the same on reels of same price.. not sure what u mean. There is a pin attached to the spool that runs over teeth that are attached to the spool shaft. However daiwa reels have more vibrant drag sound.
      I don't think daiwa is better or worse than shimano.. i love both of them.. but ur criticisms are unfounded

    • @smoothddd
      @smoothddd 5 років тому

      shimano bails are lighter..
      if you think about design purely there is no reason for the bail to be thick, i want to bail to be as thin as possible and have as little effect as possible when the rotor is spinning..
      also the bail is not 1 piece like in the shimanos.. its made from two pieces molded together which again i find lazy...
      also i like designs that come from thought and strategy and not something that looks like they have cut some corners.. look at the rotor's arches for example, they are not in the same thickness and they are slightly bent towards one side.. check it out.. i believe that it was done in purpose but as a designer i find it as a lazy solution..
      there is also no reason for the rotor to be so thick and bulky overal...
      but again there are some things that daiwa do better the shimano..
      regarding to gears, they are both same quality... i agree that usually the daiwas looks better..daiwa usually suffer from less handle play then the shimanos.. overall they usually feel "tighter"

I’m a gloomis NRX fan for rods and abu Garcia MGXtreme and rocket for reels but that’s for bass fishing. I didn’t even know until I stumbled across your video they had a reel to pair with it then when I saw the price I was like wow that’s incredible. I do love the high end equipment. Also where did you get that copper colored line from your other video.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  4 роки тому

      I got the line from platt as well, but you can type the name in ebay and get if cheaper from there, if you are buying only line.
      My reel is the 2017 model. That is the latest model, even though it is discontinued (thats why the clearance). The 2017 model has significant improvements over the 2014, if you gona buy one, buy the 2017 since its same price but lighter and smoother.
      If you like the Travel rod, get the 2 piece as well. It is 2 times more fun. The travel rod is a little stiff because of so many connections.
      Abu makes terrible spinning reels. I am telling you this as a fact, not opinion. They don't even make spinning reels any more, this is relabelled chinese OEM. U need to watch my spinning reel videos and buy one of those. Abu does make the high end baitcasters in Sweden and those are good quality, and not to be confused with the spinning reels, or under 100$ baitcasters.

      Does that little offset on the trout magnet jig head, does that give a shaky action to it or is that just for looks? Maybe in fast-moving water it helps create a little bit of Wiggle. I haven't tried them out yet. I do have a lot of plastic stuff and I like using plastic but when it's tough bite nothing works like a minnow or live bait but when the bites on,Plastics are good like that power nymph you reviewed couple days ago.... I used a tiny little one in white powerbait Frye on a yellow 1/64 jig head and I caught a fish on every cast with that but they were biting good. We were using minnows that day and just going through them like Non-Stop and there was three of us in the boat. I switched over to the fry to give it a try and man it was on like Donkey Kong. I just haven't got around to using those trout magnets yet. I'll give that a try one of these days like you were saying it's an addiction man...so much new stuff to try...so many lakes so little time.
