  • Recently, Dina Kadisha traveled to Cuba with JDC Entwine. There, she met with members of the local Jewish community and explored the issues and challenges they face on a daily basis.
In Inside Jewish India, explore this community's history and needs, and gain an understanding of what's to come for their future.
JDC ENTWINE is a movement of young Jewish leaders who seek to address and impact global Jewish needs and international humanitarian issues. An initiative of The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), Entwine offers service experiences in Jewish communities worldwide, educational events and leadership development. jdcentwine.org
The JDC AKA "the Joint," is the world's leading Jewish humanitarian assistance organization. JDC works in 70+ countries and in Israel to alleviate hunger and hardship, rescue Jews in danger, create lasting connections to Jewish life, and provide immediate relief and long-term development support for victims of natural and man-made disasters. I am an American Jew. Maybe 20 years ago I visited Cuba and also visited the Patronato. I brought them medicines from USA. Very sweet people. Curiously, originally, under the Spanish and the Catholic Church, Jews were not allowed in Cuba. Only later did the community develop. It is a very proud and good community.

Despite the general Communist dislike of religion, it some seem that Castro tolerated Jews fairly well. Perhaps to show that he was not a Fascist.
    Stalin did not.

Good for jew, JDC. I remember the synagog with the arch. I was a twelve year old when I left Cuba in 1961. At that age I didn't know Jews existed. I was so young I assumed that jews were a group of people that existed during the Roman Empire and they were no more.
It was not until Jr. High and High School did I learn that jews existed during our common era. And I as a Catholic Youth did I began to have Jewish friend and that many lived in the area of Shenandoah and The Roads and Coral Way. It was not for decades later that my father's last name Franco was actually Saphartic last name... I even learn that there were such thing as a Cuban Jew.
Congratulation on your work. And may The Force be with You.

I have Cuban roots and no Cuban friends I'm in Illinois and here your either Mexican or puertorican and unfortunately skin color and eye color is judged before anything so basically I'm alone in my family taking up my Cuban Jewish roots my family and myself gets shamed for our skin color and the fact that we are told by Mexicans and Puertoricans alike that we Cubans born their or Florida or anywhere for that fact are Communist so I am dealing with that plus the stygma of being the only hablarero del Judezmo Cubanó y yo mezclado con Llanító believe it or not Llanito Spanish is very close to cuban Spanish they're both Criollo Languages plus I bump the shit out of Llanito because my mom is a judea Gíbraltáreña my father is the actual Cuban so in hopes that my family would at least speak Spanglish but I won't hold my breath

many are self proclaimed "Jews" not Halakic. Reform Jews accept them. Orthodox rabbi will not unless ones mother is Jewish or they convert Orthodox.

Abraham prayed for a son and God answered his prayer and gave him "Isma-Eil" means "God Heard"
Angeles gave him good news of another son his wife was standing she bashed and slap her face, they said his name should be "Ishaq" that means "Banged, bashed"
And after Ishaq would be "YaaQoub" that means "The one after" or "Heel" meaning Base.
Then God called them "Isra-Eil" means "GOD TRANSPORTED" his 12 sons up to now! So Israel in NOT the name of a PLACE!
"The Sons whom God transported" Read Torah
