Wait a sec, did Tony offer $3,000 along with that last gift shop item? I've never seen that much offered with one on the American show. Of the episodes I've seen, the most Jim Perry ever offered with a single item was $2,000, in addition to a Mexican cruise. It was the final one offered to Alice Conkwright before winning the lot. For you Australians out there, she actually appeared in the Australia/USA Challenge in 1985. While she didn't do too well in the matches she appeared on Aussie $OTC, there is an interesting blooper from the third match. It is on UA-cam somewhere.
I think Australia could get away with offering much more cash due to the nighttime slot as opposed to the daytime or syndicated slots of the American versions. In fact, 22 years later, during the finals of the "Temptation Quizmasters" tournament, we got offers of $5,000 and $10,000 during the Gift Shop!
The ads are better than today's, more classy and catchy, not as intrusive.
52:58; By my calculation, this was two weeks after Tony got conked on the head by the safe.
How did winning this show change you're life Barry?
interesting to see how less uptight things were, even the adds are calmer...
Later, they would change it to have Tony speak with the Judge on a phone.
I like to refer to the phone as the "SOTC Hotline".

1984: $1500 was offered and a $1000 sale surprise was thrown in to boot. Painful to watch.
3:44 My dog is a Bichon... hehe
Is it just me, or does that scoreboard act up a lot?
It's not you. I've noticed it myself.
