If he wants to hear more interesting drumming from Sepultura. you should try him on either Chaos A.D. or Roots. That's when they were more willing to embrace their Brazilian and indigenous backgrounds and really tried to put a stamp on metal that was reflective of who they are and where they come from.

Sepultura is a sacred and unforgettable band! You should analyze, react to Sepultura classics such as: Escape to the Void, Inquisition Symphony, Beneath the Remains, Dead Embryonic Cells, Desperate Cry, Refuse/Resist, Territory, Isolation, Means to an End. I would like to suggest songs from my favorite Sepultura album (Morbid Visions, 1986, first LP), but I think you would consider the production, sound "crude", "sloppy"...

When I think of the quintessential metal rhythm guitar tone, this era of sepultura is the sound I hear in my head.. I first heard them when they covered Symptom of the Universe for a Sabbath tribute album, and they knocked my socks off.. was my go-to song to get hyped for football for a whole season, and I'd play it on repeat in my headphones until I couldn't stop smashing my head into things, and I broke or dented a ton of stuff back then(lockers, helmets, noses, the box of my buddy's 78 Chevy pickup, etc).. I didn't get their albums til the next year, and by then I was thankful I wasn't having to listen to the same song as often, and would repeat Beneath the Remains, Arise, and Chaos AD, as a whole, before it looped back around again.. I could still be happy doing the same thing now, 20+ years later, cuz they've held up so well, especially compared to some of the other metal from that era... Great Measures! (Randomly inserted, poorly timed channel ID, Judson-style!) 👍🖖🤘 I didn't mean this to be a reply BTW, just messed up hahaha

@@DM-pv4rw The story of Max Cavalera's departure in 1996 (years later, Igor Cavalera, Max's brother, also left the band) is extremely complex and controversial. There are version by Max Cavalera and the version by the other members of the band at the time, mainly by Andreas Kisser (phenomenal guitarist, by the way). So, pointing to just one episode to want to understand something extremely complex is totally controversial and questionable. Fact.

    • @DM-pv4rw
      @DM-pv4rw 6 місяців тому

@@fabiolignelli7372 I never pointed to one event to "understand" the entire situation. I pointed to that event because I think that it has a lot to do with their relationship. Max cited that as one of the main reasons he left Sepultura. However, Max and Igor have both been willing to move past everything and do some sort of reunion for years now.
Andreas is a hypocrite. He gets mad about Max's wife managing the band (understandably), but then when Max and Igor ask about playing shows together, Andreas wants control over everything.
Also, I honestly don't think the situation is complicated at all. There were clear events that led to their breakup, and both sides were at fault. But now that it is all over, it is entirely Andreas' fault that the Cavaleras aren't involved now. See who deflects questions about it in interviews. Hint: it's not Max.
You didn't even add any information. You just said its "extremely complex" and acted like you dropped a knowledge bomb on me.

Thanks for the honest opinion. I agree. As a Brazilian I love Sepultura, but they have better material. Not sure why people request this particular song/album. Probably it was super revolutionary at the time. The clean shredding and stuff. But now it sounds too simple and repetitive. Also, I feel like Max is singing out of the tone. There is something odd regarding his vocals. He is just shouting stuff in bad English. I can't overlook this just because I am a fan. Still, don't give up. Megadeth has also a lot of shitty songs that nobody cares. I won't even start talking about Metallica... Go after the greatest hits!

I think the out of tune singing is part of his style. Like removing the top strings. Sepultura has this raw and primal character. I can't even say I'm a big fan, but sometimes it's exactly what I need. When I'm not in the mood for the elaborate riffs or harmony or refinement.

  • @-BuddyGuy
    @-BuddyGuy 5 місяців тому

Sepultura are good at controlling energy, like i know pianist guy said it felt like he was just finished running but i feel like during the song the band is giving you an interval training program on purpose. The clean guitar and the double time are there for contrast, so you're not desensitised when they hit you with the next thing. The next thing might be a variation on something before but with a little more juice, deeper on the bass or more aggressive fills etc. They're usually building to something like a manic solo followed by a big slow meaty breakdown, that's a typical climax for them. Sepultura are great at the timing on this, and controlling the intensity and accuracy of the fills and riffs etc. so you instinctively know what the next bar should deliver for you. Sometimes the drummer will lag just a little to make you feel dragged back, and then rush a fill right after to make it feel punchy. There are lots of different techniques they use but the end result is that usually there's a key part of a Sepultura song where you feel like a racing dog being let out of the traps, bursting with precise and aggressive energy. Hairs go up on your arms when it clicks but there is some learning of the language to do first.

I'm not surprised by Judson's reaction: from Schizophrenia to Arise, it's a pure drug, few people can start right there. Something from the Roots or Chaos. Better from the Roots is a great album and very accessible to nonmetallheads (my wife can listen to Roots). Perhaps Soulfly, as a continuation and development of Roots. Step by step, I hope we can still return to the Sepultura trash period.

Great song reaction, a good recommendation would be Arise. Also how about Alice in Hell by Annihilator 🤘🤘🤘

Sepultura has been a cover band since the late 90's. Well that's what Max's daughter told me. Lol

Sepultura, cool! I prefer the Arise album, over all the band’s compilations!

Chaos A.D. is beyond one of the Rippin a new butthole albums of all time. All hail Sepultura.

Inquisition Symphony by Sepultura from the Schizophrenia album. That should be reviewed by both of you.

Yo need to give him proper context. Sepultura were still a very young band. Show him the album for the band photo and cover. They came from nothing and made it to MTV within a few years. They were so hungry and wild! That's why their music was so aggressive.

Wasn't a fan of Sepultura until Roots came out and now can't get enough of Chaos AD. An acquired taste for sure but one worth persevering with. Unlike olives, they can go to hell.

Not too far from Lennon, at least on a grater scale of time and with some twist. I mean his son Sean, singing a song on Max’s other band Soulfly.

Welp you never go with uncut thrash on virgin ears. Gota start out easy with some of the softer Metallica type and work your way up to sepultura. Once they start to feel the angst then you get aggressive.
