SUBSCRIBED! I followed your most excellent video, everything worked, and I learned a lot! I assumed if I needed to INSTALL DFS on both servers, share the folders on both servers, I had to CONFIGURE the Namespace at BOTH servers. I wanted DFS for FS redundancy. I rewatched your video and SURE ENOUGH! At 3:50 you said you can add both Servers as Namespace Servers if you want. I did just that and waited. BAM! TYSVM. Moving on to more of your fantastic labs.
Hello Robert. Thank you for the video. Do you think Storage Replica is more robust than DFS as the replication happens at the block level? Also is on perm file servers still applicable as most of the shares are migrated to Sharepoint these days? Thank you
Thanks for watching. replica is more for backup redundancy while DFS is more for users access file shares in real time. I wouldn't replace one with the other. Most servers are still on prem and will be for a long time. Many companies are even moving back due to the higher cost of cloud. However, long term I believe the price will come down and just about all small to medium companies will be in the cloud eventually.
Fantastic video. Considering using this together with FSLogix for an HA type scenario. Super useful -- thank you so much for the detailed walkthrough and explanation.
If I understood correctly, there is an async background sync between the nodes. Usually how much time is needed, after init, to replicate something to server A -> B ? Is it in milliseconds, seconds, minutes? Thank you
I don't, but you can simply go to the properties and add the new server and remove the old one when needed. I'll add that to my list of videos to create.
I don't but you would just delete the namespace on your old server, delete the DNS entry, and then recreate it on the new one. It won't delete any folders or data.
It is an honor to be your students. Thank you.
Much appreciated.
Dang... i don't know what I would do without your videos. thanks man
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the sub!
Thank you so much for this video.
I saw it and did practice on my virtual box. It really worked. I am learning so much now.....
Glad it helped. Please consider subbing.
Hello Robert. Thank you for sharing the videos. Helps a lot.
You are very welcome Syed.
That was cool Proffessor
Thanks for watching.

If I understood correctly, there is an async background sync between the nodes. Usually how much time is needed, after init, to replicate something to server A -> B ?
Is it in milliseconds, seconds, minutes?
Thank you
It starts within seconds but it finishes based on the load on the nodes.
very well explained and simple
Thanks for watching.
Do you have a video on migrating the old primary DFS server to a new one? 2008r2 to newer OS?
I don't, but you can simply go to the properties and add the new server and remove the old one when needed. I'll add that to my list of videos to create.
thank you sir , well explained!
Great! Thanks for watching.
Great video 10/10 very helpful
Glad to hear!
Sir can i ask in this exercise have you createdd two servers?
Yes, 2 servers. You can use more though.
Great video. Now to put this in production...
Glad I could help!
Hi There, do you have any material on DFS Namespace migration in Server 2022, not much out there
I don't but you would just delete the namespace on your old server, delete the DNS entry, and then recreate it on the new one. It won't delete any folders or data.
thank you so much
Glad it helped.
👍
Thanks for watching.
