- Do O2 Sensor Spacers Work On Catless Downpipes ? Will Check Engine (CEL) Go Away?
We recently installed VRSF catless downpipes on the BMW M5 F10 and got a CEL with these 02 spacers. Will adjusting them work? Let's find out!

Great job guys! On the crankcase vent lines- they are often overlooked and not replaced until there's oil everywhere. And it's such an easy preventive maintenance item! Glad you guys got ahead of it. Keep it up!
Tilt the spacer about 45 degrees forward to take the kink out of the sensor wire so it won't be under tension.
Wow the fact that this video came out and I was just wondering about the spacer
Looking forward to more F10 M5 content 👍👍
New video going up tonight?
i installed spacers that came with arm downpipes for extra $ i was very surprised that they actually worked when i started it up after install the CEL didn’t come on it’s been about a week still no CEL with a lot of driving
There is a loophole where if you have an address outside of VA you can register your vehicle (for even two years at a time) in VA without them asking for an inspection. VA emissions are only required in a few areas within NOVA. In the capital region it is hardly an issue to have out of state plates because of proximity and assumed commutes; I don't know if your local enforcement will hold you to the MD expectation of getting instate plates within 90 days. I currently have VA plates while living in MD on my modified Audi S4 and have not needed to inspect it or had any other issues regarding VA plates.
Keep up the good work, buddy. We just emailed you for an
LED lighting review. Hopefully hear from you soon
You will not pass emissions if your car has been remapped. I had a 2014 335i with an active autowerks catted down pipe and BM3 stage 2 e30 map. The car wouldn’t pass emissions. I had to re-flash my stock map and complete a drive cycle on order to pass. Same issue with my 15 M4 with stock cats and a stage 1 map. I had to flash the M4 back to stock map in order to pass emissions. I’m in Atlanta Ga the, I understand every state is slightly different
the rear 02 sensor have it facing the front and up that’s what I did
Did it remove the CEL?
WHERE YOU ABLE TO FIGURE OUT THE SPACERS TO ELIMINATE THE CEL?
WHAT YOU INSTAGRM SO I CAN DM YOU
I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS
New video going up tonight
Did this work or did the CEL end up coming back? Also a link to where you got these o2 spacers would be great
They didn’t work. Ended up tuning it with BM3
@@ThicGarage Doesn't the tune just remove it from the dash, but the CEL code is still there when you check OBD?
Can you plug and play tune and use the gts race chip to get more power
I would not use the racechip if you are tuning
I live in Oklahoma so no emission standards here. Will this make the car run in a lean condition or will the ECU correct for this in short term fuel trim?
Need to tune it to correct. We just recently tuned with BM3 stage 2
Generally when you delete the check light with software its gone. The tune needs to show emissions readiness pass.
So im also in Maryland and have emissions coming up. I have a 340i with catless dp and running stage 2+ on BM3. Will flashing back to stock and adding the spacers get me through? Not sure what options i have other than buying a stock dp and swapping it for the test...
I haven’t gone through emissions yet to see what will happen. Also have stage2 BM3 that removed the CEL but if I fail, I have my stock DP to reinstall then flash to stock to retest. The spacers didn’t work for me since the CEL came back so we removed and then tuned.
@ThicGarage thanks for the heads up. I've heard people say you can look at the emission stuff through BM3 to see if all monitors are ready. Have you done this? I'm not sure how
Not as of yet
I’m in the same predicament. I have a 440i with a catless dp and stage 2+ tune. Did you find a way around it? I haven’t tried the spacers yet wanted to see if they really work
Do you happen to know what code(s) you had when the CEL came on after the initial install? I purchased these as well and it is giving 12BE08 - Oxygen sensor after catalytic converter, dynamics, from lean to rich: Slow response. This makes me think the O2 sensor needs to move closer, not farther away as you adjusted yours.
CEL just came back on. I’ll run scan and update
I’m having the same issue 12BE08 and hoping it won’t shoot up a check engine light but it probably will car is flashed back to stock map right now any advice would help. Really don’t want to put the stock down pipe back on lol.
Update: I can confirm the extender worked on my F10 N55 i drove it for 50 miles and it gave me code/check engine light 12BE08. I left it over the weekend started it on Monday the code was stored in the DME but the check engine light just shut off by it self. I drove it for another week to make sure it wouldn’t come back on and it passed emissions that weekend with flying colors in Illinois lol. The code never showed on the emissions test
From what I’ve heard, O2 sensor spacers are a visual fail for emissions where emissions are required. So the emissions person doing the test would have to know what they were looking at. A quick Google search would answer your question.
We don’t have in person inspection it’s all done by kiosk.
@@ThicGarage Oh, that's nice! I wish we had that where I'm at.
It will fail every time and if you have a tune on the car it will fail readiness every time but you’ll pass everything else.
Is the car misfiring or anything?
No
Mine does occasionally misfire with an occasional rough idle since installing the spacer but no check engine light so far. I’m still gonna have to remove the spacer before it causes a serious issue. Personally I don’t think it was worth it. Better off just getting the check engine lighted coded out.
I have a 02 sensor delete on downstream sensors for my e90 335i. Does anybody know how to code them out to 00? I have catless downpipes
BM3 tune?
