- In today's video we are insulating the shed, and applying the vapor barrier to the interior walls. We are also prepping the roof with felt paper for the metal roof install.

We are a homeschool and homesteading family currently building on our new 20 acre homestead in North Idaho. yo lo ~ I just got a Cuisinart ice cream maker. Easiest thing in the world! Store the main container in the freezer and when you're ready to make ice cream, add the ingredients and plug it in. Boom! 20 minutes later... ICE CREAM! Do you have a recipe you can share?

I love the song with the piano music (starting about 4:47). I had to replay that part of the video to listen to the music again. Also, you made it look easy installing that plastic vapor barrier on the ceiling. I don't think I could've kept it running straight like you did.

Looking really nice. Tip: when you cut insulation with a utility knife, place a board (1x4, ply etc) strip on top of the insulation. Kneel on the board to compress the insulation at your cut line, makes cutting much easier. To insulate your pipes get some closed cell insulation board and form a box around the pipe group. Go as deep as you can use several layer of 1-2" thick to get the R-value up. It's important not to use something that can soak up water as it will have no insulation capability when wet. Then a heat tape on thermostat if necessary. Some 2L soda bottles filled with water down around the pipes will also help, water needs to give up a lot of energy to freeze. The reason lakes don't freeze solid.
As you have stated you are not professionals. Just some tips to anyone else who may attempt a similar project. Always get roof waterproof before adding insulation. If it had rained the insulation in the roof would have gotten wet in combination being trapped by the plastic would have caused mold. If you are using metal roofing you should use an underlayment appropriate for metal. A synthetic paper has an equivalent lifespan to metal. Tar paper lifespan is half of metal. Aesthetically button cap fasteners will show though the metal roofing in time. If that would bother you use staples to hold the underlayment down instead of the button cap fasters. Don't forget to tape the joints of the house wrap and the vapor barrier. Keep up the hard work Jeremy and Melissa.

Picking huckleberries, so fun. I remember being a kid and my mom drove us up north to pick them. Miss those days, time flies by to fast. We had a small "doghouse" on the outside of our pumphouse with a heater to keep our pipes from freezing. Worked great.

I love the idea that your children have adjusted so well to the living in the awesome countryside! The chicken coop with new laying hens are a truly beautiful birthday gift especially for a sweet precious 💖 daughter that is asking for one! It will be nice to watch the collection of fresh eggs and following along with her keeping up with the coop! I like 👍 how she is thinking of composting for the garden! You'll have a great start for the mulching and composting of the garden come spring!! You both were looking tired by the end of the day! I noticed that you were even picking blueberries too!
