  • Volkswagen has turned its popular Golf R hot hatchback into an estate, and in doing so, says Chris Knapman, created the perfect family car.

      I think he means if you pull the rear seat base forward it will fold flat, or maybe he is a fucking liar!

    I have a 2015 R-Line Red TSI Golf estate with a 7 speed gear box and I couldn’t believe how quick it was 0-100km in sport mode. It has suede bucket seats not leather however, this 2016 Golf R estate is a beautiful all rounder

    A simple panning shot around the exterior showing the whole of the car would have been useful. After watching this i know what the front of the car looks like from a few feet away! but I have no idea about the overall proportions and balance of the design.

    If you can't afford the awesomeness that is the Audi A4 Estate then this is the car for you! VW has done it again. How can you not like this machine? It does everythign you want from a family estate and MORE! PLus it will be super reliable and feel solid all the time. The car enthousiast will be eating his heart out.

      Same year S4 Avants and Golf R estates are like the same price. I own the avant. I had a MK7 GTI before. It was better.

    I think the answer to those very specific needs at the end is none other than the beast, the Audi RS6.

    • @alirezazadeh

      that costs over twice more

    • @charliemolda297
      @charliemolda297 8 років тому

      Ye but if you are looking for the best, then the RS6 is the way forward. Besides great value

    • @kuddin9021
      @kuddin9021 8 років тому

      When car journalists talk about best all rounders they should qualify it by saying in its price segment. The RS6 arguably ticks most boxes than anything else in its price range and isn't as showy as its performance should indicate.
      The Golf R estate is an RS6 in its own price segment in my opinion

    • @charliemolda297
      @charliemolda297 8 років тому

      +Komor Uddin you actually make a very good point and one that I agree with. With that said, the ultimate car which ticks all these boxes mentioned is as I mentioned none other than the RS6

    For most families, the perfect family car is one that doesn't cost a lot of money to buy, doesn't cost a lot to maintain and doesn't cost a lot to drive. This Golf does none of that, therefore it is a terrible family car. It is a fun car for a bloke who wants to show that he can press a pedal, that's it.

    • @pierrot148
      @pierrot148 8 років тому +2

      Yeah I don't really see the point in it either. If you want the best of both worlds, get a cheaper people carrier and buy a secondhand rally machine instead. You'll be off cheaper aswell and you'll pay less emission taxes...

      SOS10 Or buy just the one car with one lot of registration/insurance/pink slip... Also so that the whole family can enjoy fun Sunday drives.

    • @AristotelisMitsiou

    Agree with this review, but still think what they charge for a fancy Golf these days is ridiculous. Especially when they sell them in the US for so much less. So much for our friends in Europe not ripping us off....

    • @Horizon301.
      @Horizon301. 8 років тому

      This costs around £34,000 and the normal ones cost from around £18,000 but in all fairness is see more golf GTD's then any golf

    • @joobaggs6886
      @joobaggs6886 8 років тому

      price would be close to $45k after taxes, fees, and options in the us. at least you guys get a choice to buy it! also our golfs don't get a lot of options the row gets. led tail lights and 8 inch navi to name a few. plus the gti and lower models are built in mexico.

    • @Horizon301.
      @Horizon301. 8 років тому

      joo baggs the £ is stronger then the dollar so it will be less however every market gets different things mainly due to laws for example in america the class can't have the led adaptive headlights we have in europe and for the 7 series we get the advanced key standard it just depends where you live, these are very common now though, its weird that there would be more golf R's and GTDs then the normal ones when there is such a big price difference

    • @joobaggs6886
      @joobaggs6886 8 років тому

      golf r loaded in us is about 43k after taxes and fees depending on state, so a variant would be close to 45k. vw took out leds to save money so our price would be lower. even civics have led tail lights!

    • @Horizon301.
      @Horizon301. 8 років тому

      joo baggs LED taillights aren't anything special, the A6 from 2014 has LED daytime running lights on the front and the other lights are xenon the rear taillights only have LEDs on the indictators volkswagen don't need to have them for the car too look good our audis lights look good and they are led they use a lot of technology to make it look good and

    What annoys me about the Golf R is it is everywhere...usually driven by middle class and age mothers who have just picked it because it's the most expensive. It drives me mad seeing people who don't care about cars driving them! (Pointless argument against the R but it puts me off it as a future potential buyer)

    • @ApurtureSci
      @ApurtureSci 8 років тому +1

      I must agree, I only ever see Golf R's driven in such a sedate manner that the owners might as well have gone for the 1.6 TDI.

    • @ScottZ370
      @ScottZ370 8 років тому

      ***** Get the occassional Porsche wanna be driver as well who drives like an absolute prick. Strangely though the S3 seems like the one to get for the better and nicer drivers

    • @ApurtureSci
      @ApurtureSci 8 років тому +1

      +S Miller I've always preferred the S3 over the R, especially the saloon. As far as looks go though, I think the Leon is the most attractive MQB car. Hoping to buy a Leon SC 1.8 TSI soon, can't afford a Cupra!

    • @ScottZ370
      @ScottZ370 8 років тому

      ***** The 1.8 Leon FR is rapid, I've got a 1.4 tsi FR Ibiza and it troubles Fiesta STs on the road but also had a few plays with the 1.8 Tsi Leon and it is quicker than mine. With the Leon Cupra you always would need to modulate the throttle but the magic with the FRs is you get all their power down all the time. Have a look at the new Ibiza Cupra though it's cheaper and faster

    33.5k on a car that nobody is going to notice...... Errr....Why?
    There's understated and then there's just plain dull. Sorry but this is definitely the latter, even if it does have 300hp.
