You are a skilled craftsman and a good decent man !Thank You for your wonderful videos . Just put almost 1000 sq feet of vinyl plank down after watching your videos . Retired part time contractor I am ,and I like keeping up on the new materials that keep coming out . Where do you get your big rubber tapping block that resembles a float? The gentleman I was putting the floor down with kept using scrap pieces of flooring to tap with and I told him of your big rubber block ! His scrap pieces were breaking the grooves when he got carried away . Our floor came out great ,only small bathroom left to do tomorrow. It looks professionally done ,not bad for 2 65 year old retired guys doing a charity job !

I don't know how much you charge to lay 24 cartons of Pergo but that is how much you're saving me. Just can't thank you enough for all the tips and tricks. I do recommend anybody following you and planning a project with this type flooring to go ahead and buy the pull bar/knock locking tool for $60+. You're going to need it. Some laminate goes together easier than others.

Just got my 1,200 sq ft of vynal planks delivered yesterday. They are giant planks at 10"wide x5.5 ft long by 12mm thick. Never used such big planks and not sure if that's going to make it harder or easier but I'm guessing it means a lot more cutting. I'm thanking God that I found your channel. I did my entire 1,000 Sq ft basement last weekend and it turned out great. Next week is this for upstairs and into hall bathroom so again, I'm rewatching all your videos!

I wish I would have came across your channel when I did my first room. Finished my dining room and the part of my kitchen. I wish I had started my planks in the first room differently as in same direction as the dining room. I know it is preference. I started the opposite in dining room and used a T strip where the first room ended. The reason was I don't have money to purchase all the planks in one go. This way I can move all my furniture from the living room and store in the dining room while I prep the other floor. Installing that plank in that direction was WAY easier and went faster. I made faster progress cause now I know what the hell I'm doing. Another worry I had was my kitchen and dining room has bowed joist causing a dip in the subfloor. We were told it from the steel frame that the manufactured home sits on. With that I don't expect perfection. I'm just happy my dogs can no longer use the floor as their toilet, yes it sounds disgusting but now if they have an accident, clean up will be a breeze.
Your videos really helped my hone my DIYer skills.

I just ordered some Cali white aspen vinyl pro to do my entire first level and have watched several videos to prepare. Yours are IMHO the best and cover the prices from A to Z. I'm excited to get going on it and will be consulting your channel during the job, I'm sure. Thanks for the time and effort, and caring, you've given all of us DIYers. It is very much appreciated. 🙏 I do have one question, though. The salesperson told me I do not need underlayment or vapor barrier under my planks, which are going over a concrete slab here in my townhome. But other sources say I need a vapor barrier. I'd love to get your opinion on this.

Thank you for making these videos. What you show in your vinyl plank series of videos is exactly what I encountered when doing my bathroom, except for a couple details. I have a master shower and a main bathroom with bathtub. Both have glazed ceramic tile with decorations on the face that make them uneven. Also, about 1/4 to 1/3 of the tiles in the main bath are loose or very near being loose. I ended up doing each bathroom differently. I pulled up all the tile from the main bath and cleaned off the 3/4 subfloor with a grinder. Repaired rotten subfloor by the bathtub, then put 1/4 underlayment over the subfloor. (Underlayment was probably overkill, but gives the vinyl great flatness so it doesn't bounce anywhere. In the master shower, I put vinyl plank over the glazed ceramic tile. There are a couple high-use areas that have a little bounce, like in front of the sink. When I installed it, I started at the back of the room and worked out to the door. So, I will probably pull in back out and use that floor leveler you showed in another video.
So 2 questions: Is there a better floor leveler than what you showed in another video for glazed ceramic tile? Nothing sticks to this tile because the glazing is so smooth. So, I'm worried if I use a floor leveler, it'll just come off after some use.
Other question is where to stop in the doorway? My doors open into the bathroom, so I'm thinking about putting the transition strip under where the door closes. Then from the stop outward, will be carpet for the bedroom.
Sorry for the long post, but would love to hear your experiences here.

Denatured alcohol is now illegal in California, and regular isopropyl alcohol doesn’t work well at all to remove Sharpie lines. My wife gave me a can of Aussie brand hairspray, and it removes the Sharpie lines perfectly. After spraying, let it set for a few seconds, then wipe with a cloth, or cotton ball(s). Amazing stuff, really. Then dampen a rag with a drop or two of dish soap (I used Dawn), to clean off the hairspray residue. The board looks at this point like it did when you pulled it from the box.

Question If using a vinyl underlayment how do you calk your lines? Or maybe some tips on installing underlayment. I have a house to do in Bullhead City AZ raised deck on cinderblock foundation. They have 8 x 12 sheets of some kind of Masonite type substrate over plywood, modular house 30 years old. Going to use Life proof Home Depot. I'm a Journeymen tile setter , stone mason 35 years experience before that I did lots of glue down wood. Not to much experience with Vinyl and that's the only thing we can put down coming from the City engineers.

I bought waterproof laminate to use on the whole second floor including the bathroom. I didn't notice it said to use a backer rod and silicone around edges where complete waterproofing is needed IE the bathroom. Have you done this? The backer rod is 1/2" tube. I guess you cut a wide opening on the caulking tube to cover. Good thing I was planning on using 3/4 round trim on base and against the tub. I also thought about paInting some red-guard a foot or so in front and under tub (all new install) and up the wall a little. Thoughts? Im using Wedi board around tub walls and down the side a few inches. I'm also going to use PVC base trim in the bath only. Doing craftsman style trim so it's 1 x 6 square edge.

I have a question please... My subfloor has a hump through the middle of the main living area (and focal area). The hump is nearly a 1" high spot over a near 10 foot section from one level side to the other, and going through the whole room (parallel with the direction the new vynal flooring is going). I don't know if I should sand down the area or feather it out with filler to make it more gradual. The subfloor plywood is not as thick as the 1" of sanding down needed so I would go straight through to the joists. I have no idea what to do or why my last floor (engineered hardwood) didn't creek or move with this hump.

    • @sothatshowyoudothat

      @stevenwilson8718 3 роки тому

You can cut a section of the subfloor out to get to the joist and then plane the joist down. If you run the plank parallel to the joist it would be ok to go over it. The problem with that though is you still have a hump.

    • @stevenwilson8718

@@sothatshowyoudothat Thank you so much! I just ordered a decent planer and will be fixing the joist. I just figured that if I don't do it now, while I have no flooring or furniture there, I'll probably never fix it. I really appreciate the advice!

Howdy Joe! Is there a particular LVP you recommend as a value option. This would be for a basement bedroom with a low amount of foot traffic. God bless🙏

Hi, helpful video. I have one question. How did you get the board in at 10:55?

I slid it under the jamb first and then started to put the joint together at the wall and worked towards the jamb.

Question: Should the flange be on top of or next to LVP? If I install around the flange they will be level with each other. Concerned about leaks.

Wow! You do amazing work! I do have a question. Can vinyl flooring or any type of flooring be installed over carpet?

Great stuff Joe. On our bathroom floor renovation we need to go parallell to the tub. I saw on one of your other videos that you stated to start with the groove at the tub. Is that correct? Thanks

No. I was working backwards in that video because I continued the floor from another room. Always point the tongue towards the starting wall. Hope this helps.

Sorry Joe, I meant perpendicular. And you stated start with the groove. ???
