If you don't know who Chris McCandless is, see here for more info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_McCandless And if you'd like to see the bus that was used in the movie "Into the Wild", I made a video about it the last time I was in Alaska. Be warned though, I was talking really fast for some reason: ua-cam.com/video/-tXeM7bkviM/v-deo.html
Chris' dad was a brilliant man. Fun fact he invented synthetic aperature radar! We use those fundamentals in all kinds of telecommunications and scientific measurements now.
The title of this video is very appropriate . Yes this is why I want to visit Alaska , I mean look at the gorgeous scenery . Walking all that distance on the frozen lake in the clean fresh snow , surrounded by jagged mountains was worth every effort .
Your videos are wonderful. And your back story very personal. I have lived in Alaska almost 45 years and never been to Southeast. broke and my knees not so great, so Thanks for the virtual treat.
Many visitors venture to Alaska to see the jaw-dropping scenery of unspoiled nature, majestic mountains, glaciers, fjords, crystal clear lakes, waterfalls and the National Parks. Alaska has some of the world's most scenic highways like the Seward Highway or Denali Park Road perfect for an unforgettable road trip.
I feel like Alaska is one of my places... it's the snow! lol I loved the sound of your footsteps walking around in the snow. Also, I prefer the GoPro ;-)
The cameras actually seem extremely similar but I think in this instance the colors looked nicer and more vibrant on the gopro and the mountains looked a bit more faded on the DJI. The moment you switch to the gopro the skies look a nicer shade of blue, although in other scenarios the gopro can look over saturated when using the color mode especially in very green nature scenes.
What a gorgeous blue sky and winter sun. You don't get such gorgeous days in winter over here in the NE that often. Chris McCandless was inspiring in some ways and utterly reckless and naïve in others.
Magnificent ! I enjoy traveling with you because though you have learned through your world wide experiences you never pretend to be an expert. It makes it such a personal adventure.
Toyota Corollas make great winter cars. I have survived a couple winters in northern Michigan and the mountains of Colorado in mine. I am gonna be headed up there shortly to work in Prudhoe Bay. I cant wait to experience Alaska for myself. I too will be working in Denali this coming summer...so excited
Didn't know you had such a deep connection to that area, understand why you went there now. Hard to beat the clean pure winter scenes and the serenity that scene offers..where all you hear at times are the crunching of snow and your breath. Good time also as the bears are sleeping ;>0 Built many snow forts in MN growing up..miss riding snowmobile 90 mph across a lake a real thrill! Nothing beats a woodstove heat also, it warms into your very soul. Be safe...
After 29 years and revisiting Alaska, I hope you took still photos of these spectacular mountainous views. I would frame them for future generations to enjoy! So you can recount your Alaskan travels when your in your youthful 90's! 😁 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
What a beautiful page you had flipped again in ur life, I enjoyed the amazing scenery of the beautiful alaska, you r an adventurous traveler. Thank you for the video 📸 Always stay safe.
I just want to breathe that fresh air and listen to that natural noise... wow it’s sad when you realize what you’re missing out on out there in this beautiful world
What a great video! We were there walking along the same route as you except it was September so we could not get as close to the glacier 11:39 as you did...was just as spectacular place to be and experience!! I'd love to go back again.
Yes the views were absolutely stunning! annnd I have to say I love the go pro much better than the other one👍 fabulous Alaska footage Gabriel looked invigorating ahhhhhh that fresh air, enjoy the journey until next time stay safe. ✌
The GoPro7 wider angle makes the natural landscape look more dramatic, grain quality is decent, and the change in contrast when you go into silhouette to direct sunlight back into silhouette is smoother, less jarring than your other camera.
Gabe did you have any or participate in any fun college parties back then in June or Fairbanks with professional college beer drinkers? Haha I'm literally imagining there'd be some cool parties at someone's parents cabin like we'd do back in northern Wisconsin during the college days.
I still remember reading that well written article in Outdoor Magazine about Chris McCandless. I read recently that the authorities have moved the bus to stop it becoming a popular attraction.
A blessed good day Wowwwww what a nice beautiful stunning Winter ice places of Alaska my dream travel Destination thank u sir Gabe for your nice excellent walk around tour keep safe Godbless from your solid fan supporter viewer from the Philippines 🇵🇭 sir Vhin 👍🙂🙏👏👏
That walk on the lake was beyond spectacular. Just for that, I would travel to Alaska. As for your camera question, the GoPro was the best, in my opinion. What are the eateries in Juneau like?
Go over to Douglas and down to Sandy beach and then out north Douglas to outer point and then up eaglecreast to the ski lodge. The mendihal glacier has reseated back quite a bit. Back in 82 it was up around that big rock across the lake from the mendihal visitor center. Maybe a quick picture of Harris and Aroura harbors to and lemon creek glacier up on the hill back in lemon creek valley
@@GabrielTravelerVideos lived in Juneau from September 82 to September 2003 when I moved old injuries come back can't commercial fish anymore. The Taku winds people might say wow on those
Hi Gabe! Thank you for visiting one of my favorite towns I've lived in! Next time you're through, you should ask a local about exploring the ice caves under the Mendenhall glacier! its breathtaking
Nice and beautiful. Even though I don't like winter climate. Interesting, Juneau is at 58°18′05″N and right now I live at 58°45′30″N and lived at 64 degrees for the first 31 years of my life.
I was in Alaska 4 or 5 years ago and got to visit Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. It was an amazing experience, but it was in the summer time so completely different to these videos. I got to do a lot of hiking and see a lot of the land and I definitely want to go back. If you need any food recommendations or anything like that in any of those cities just send me a message. Great video as always!
This has been a complete mind f*ck for me. I lived on Glacier Hwy in what was called the Mattox sp? House. Bummer you didn't get to go out the road, Berners bay is stunning in winter. Bonus points if you can score blue mussel cabin.
That fall reminded me when I told my visitor while in Kotzebue to be careful of the ice and I was down on my butt and my visitor was on top of me also.
The DJI Osmo looks more stable and in those high contrast scenes of sun, snow nd shadows, I think it handles the transitions between each of those better, a much better dynamic range I think
Hi Gabriel, It's a very scenic experience there in Glacier National park it seems the Gopro picks up the actual surroundings better overall and the sound seems more natural where towards the end of the video it starts to shake a bit, and the sound quality isn't quite the same and of course there's always the factor of lighting after a while you would have to calibrate the camera according to what you're viewing and hearing.
Juneau is the only place in Alaska you could hike to the glaciers without a guide . So beautiful . Incredible wildlife both on land and sea . Wish I was there .
Seems that there are far richer colours with the GoPro7, perhaps borderline "artificial" looking compared to the DJI, but I don't think that's a bad thing (I also have the 7, I love it) - maybe you mentioned it in another video, but I wonder why you wanted something other than the GoPro7, or was it just to keep up with the latest gear? Absolutely perfect day with those clear skies, whatever camera.
Skin tones look better on the DJI. They don’t look natural on the GoPro so in bright sun it’s definitely the osmo action. But both are good little cameras.
If you don't know who Chris McCandless is, see here for more info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_McCandless And if you'd like to see the bus that was used in the movie "Into the Wild", I made a video about it the last time I was in Alaska. Coincidence, I am about to rewatch Into The Wild later today! Cheers Gabriel! Stay warm 😜
Right on man, enjoy it.

I will never understand why CM gets so much press...just baffling :-)

Alaska had many amazing places.
What a difference from Tulum! Glad you’re enjoying some real winter vibes ❄️
I heard there were beaches in Alaska, so figured it would be kind of similar. ;)
Beautiful! Our son lives about a mile from the glacier. We have visited a couple of times but only in July.
thanks Gabe , great video. Thanks for taking us with you

Awesome Glacier and mountains. Miss the mountains.
I know that this was 11 months but that's Kool you stayed at the Driftwood. I am from Juneau's

Incredible video, especially from minute 4 to minute 13. I had to watch that part twice. Just wonderful.

Stunning views with the blue sky, and then the sun setting 💙
Beautiful! ❄❄😊
I fell in love with Alaska watching Northern Exposure in the 90’s
Gabe did you have any or participate in any fun college parties back then in June or Fairbanks with professional college beer drinkers? Haha I'm literally imagining there'd be some cool parties at someone's parents cabin like we'd do back in northern Wisconsin during the college days.
Wow, truly spectacular scenery! It's such a beautiful part of the world. Enjoy the adventure.
I still remember reading that well written article in Outdoor Magazine about Chris McCandless. I read recently that the authorities have moved the bus to stop it becoming a popular attraction.
I read that it's now at the museum at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks.
Go pro looks a lot crisper, sunlight looks sharper. Colors look brighter also. Feels like film has more depth and even definition.
Amazing view by the glacier. I think the first camera does better job stabilizing as you're walking... Both look great tho
What a fantastic video Gabe we were there years ago same area as you were
I’m living in thailand at the moment and a part of me always misses the snow and frosty cold during this time of year. Beautiful place!

Nice to see clear blue skies not like the rest of the US that are streaked with who knows what! Ty for beautiful footage Gabriel!

Simply Beautiful!
Both cameras are fine, GoPro slightly more vivid (processed) colors
Beautiful! Second camera (GoPro7?) looks best, imo!

Looks beautiful, id love to go more in the summer to experience the long days of light but winter has its own beauty to it
Love the snow filled atmosphere !

So unbelievable and stunning scenery. Maybe buy a drone also?
Alaska looks amazing!

Hi. Gabriel.. Thanks for the amazing video... Stay safe and healthy 🍀
GO-PRO looking great. Nice glacier 🥶❄️
they moved that bus a year or two ago, because so many people were getting into trouble or getting hurt trying to hike to it
It's in a museum in Fairbanks now.

Yes it's paved, but I forget what it's like at the end of it. Probably closed due to snow at some point.
