Until now i preferred to used coil machine. My first machine was coil then i tried the other machine on the market (rotary's) any kind but after a month i decided to go back coil. For it's the best. 😊

What are you hitting with the screwdriver at the end to take a little more tension off?
Maybe the screw that puts the strings and armature bars together or the back spring below that screw. While the machine runs, it's slightly moving so when hit, it bends a little bit back straighter, making it a bit stiffer which causes the front spring to move a bit nicer.

Why is it that my machine works until I put the needle and rubber band on? The rubber band seems to make it difficult for the bar to move up and down
I just got two starter kit DragonHawk machines. They will not function under a solid 8. I used them, and only noticed after the fact that one of them had a spot on the contact spring on the armature bar. It seems like the metal is "bad?" In that there is a caustic sort of spot on it. Would that cause less conductivity and make the machine run badly? Or is it just a cheap box/machine combo and I should maybe invest in a better quality rotary machine? I've taken them both apart twice, put them back together, set everything, tuned them. I'm not sure if the box/pedal is weak? Or if it's the guns? I'm trying to learn, and I want to learn the right way. Any suggestions on which guns are the best for a beginner? and would that corroded spot on the spring have anything to do with the machine running badly? By the way, I love these videos. I am not an expert, but I have a starter kit dragon hawk set from Amazon and I have tried a thousand times to tattoo at a 6, 7, and 8 and I have to go up in voltage because it doesn’t work. Also I have done research after research and the foot pedal on these starter kits goes out very fast. Not only that, but a lot of time I have to put it on 12 or 13, tap the pedals a bit and then go back down to between 8-9. It seems a normal machine can do 6-7-8, but to achieve that with theses dragon hawks, I have to start between 8-10.
If I was you, I would invest in a different machine, but if you have the time, WATCH TONS AND TONS of videos on UA-cam. That helped me a lot and after buying a ok-ish dragon hawk coil machine and it was terrible, I switched to a tattoo pen and I love it. I love the traditional coil, but now I am truly in love with my Pen. If you love to write or draw, the pen might be for you. I was scared at first, but got the bundle for it and I love it. Can’t put it down. Never used fake skin. Instantly started tattooing my body once I got it and now I can’t stop.
@@briemonae7599 Thanks so much Brie. I was just waiting for a confirmation on that to go ahead and order a pen, or even a rotary machine. I appreciate traditionalism, but this machine is horrible. I don't think it's me? I want to get started, and I'm afraid that finagling around with these ding dong coil machines might set me back on time learning actual application onto skin, trying to figure out the dynamics of the power supply vs setting the needles just so, and the hit and drag on the coil. I struggled with wanting to so easily default to a pen actually because I want to learn how to use the coil machines, but I also want to learn how to actually tattoo within this decade. LOL I'm an artist in oil and acrylic on canvas, not really great at drawing, so I need to get better at that too. I don't want to use stencils forever, although I'm not opposed to them, I do need to learn. Thanks again Brie Good luck to you in your career!!! @@PoppyB2011 you need to get a damn apprenticeship and stop trying to learn how to tattoo at home with weird cheap machines lmaooo. If you can’t figure out how to tattoo with a coil, you shouldn’t even touch a rotary. Would you learn how to be an electrician or doctor at home using UA-cam? No.

So do you just do this without tuning the CPS and Duty?
You never tune according to duty cycle. Cps is only useful for comparative purposes. You should be able to hear and feel how it's running. That's what everyone did before Eikon convinced people you need a meter.

Well that was excellent. But if I only had a pair of tin snips. LOL. I just started. I've only tattooed fake skin literally 4 times. But I know enough about machines to know that something is wrong, but not enough to know exactly what to do to fix them. They're cheap machines, I need to get tin snips because my back springs are huge. Thank you! ♥

You might have better....but slower results using files on the springs. Springs are usually hardened pieces and dont react well to shearing. Those, however, may not be as hard as i am thinking.

Wow man I hope nobody cuts up their back spring over this. All they have to do is bend the spring to change the pressure the contact screw has on the front spring while still keeping a large enough stroke to pack color..lol
he is trimming the back spring down to get a harder hit, nothing wrong with doing this.
These machines are ment to hit soft . Soft blends and layering . Not everything had to hit hard like a hammer

Someone had changed the backspring on my micke sharps shader dont do this unless your machine runs super soft youll end with a liner for large groupings
I believe you are missing the point. These examples are extreme for a reason.
You can change the springs on tattoo machines to do different things.
@@Kruzun yeah I ended up just changing the spring it had now it runs like a packer Seth is awesome but this video might get people to start cutting springs and having a different set up and u end up with something completely different but anyways I got 110cps at 55 duty at 6 volts with a long stroke now it can do color

@@ivanmendoza8457 great way to learn honestly. i had all hand me down machines to start which felt like a burden in the beginning but it forced me to tinker with everything on them all the time and learn how and why everything is doing what its doing which lead me to eventually just building all my own machines. easier route to be taught by someone but breaking things down and re-building over and over trying new things will eventually come together.
other words keep fucking with it until you get it right. different gage springs, different lengths, # of coil wraps, coil wire, coil core diameter, capacitor #, frame material, points, point screw material, power pack source, long-short throw, and how close to magnetic north you are. and what style & design tattoo, & how your ink is mixed, if you do, along with the # of needles on the bar. oh yeah, and the type of skin your hammering on. i think i'll just pump gas, less complicated. but thanks anyway.

Ummm im literally starting to figure out how to do tattoos and i haven't even tattoo myself yet let alone anyone else BUT I DONT RECOMMEND DOING THIS SHIT LIKE WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING CUTTING APART YOUR MACHINE
sounds like you don’t even understand the need to replace springs in a machine. even if you’re happy with the size and shape of the springs you bought, they’re gonna wear out and need replacing with use. there’s a few basic principles to how machines run properly, everything else is preference. do some research before spouting off next time.
