I apologize for the lack of audio in the early portion of the video. Purely an editing error on my part and I didn't catch mu mistake before uploading. The normal audio returns at 01:51
This migth have been a happy mistake! Maybe putting down to 30% of the hammer volume and up when you are speaking would make easier to view while using headphones... thanks for keeping the effort up and sharing! How can a guy in Colombia become a patreon?
I actually do that now, otherwise you wouldn't be able to hear the narrative at all. You should be able to simply sign up on the Patreon page. If they have regional restrictions, I don't know of any way around it.
I agree. The wife would prob not mind the hammering volume down abit . Would make it more enjoyable for persons not used to the full hammering experience. Give them s chance to warm up to the real volume. Thanks for all you do for blacksmith journeymen. Hobby and full time.
I was gonna say felt a little weird I actually thought that something was wrong with my computer however we are hopefully all human and we do make mistakes it’s just about learning from them love the video also hope you are doing well and keep up the good work
That ending was so lovely, it made me forget how stressful it's been to want to make these things and not have the special tools to cut out the frustrating work!
Love your videos John. For more than two years now, as long as I’ve been blacksmithing, I’ve looked forward to every Sunday morning to catch your video. I love the way you allow us to see every step of the process and the use of various tools to do the same job. You continue to inspire me to create new projects as well as branch out to new skills. Thank you.
I agree, except for "easily". Watching a master do something makes it seem easy. I always thought watching Eric Clapton play guitar made guitar playing look easy. Huh! Forty years later I'm still a 3 chord wonder! I love watching your videos John. They're inspirational to a beginning blacksmith. Please don't ever stop.
Thank you for all the amazing videos. I've watched so many I've already forgotten. Made my first real "thing" today. A steak flipper meat hook from rebar. Squared, drawn out, rounded and hooked. I'm hooked. Tongs are next but a candle holder isn't far off. Thanks again!

That’s nice John, simple but elegant! Have almost 2 mt of 10x75 left over from another job I did so as soon as I get a few hours I’ll copy that, think it’s very nice!
If you knock this out in "a few hours", well, hat's off to you. Took me quite a bit longer than that, my only excuse is propane kept freezing up, and I had to run get my bottle filled before I could finish. (that and I'm pretty much a beginner, LOL)

Добрый вечер ! Интересная работа , с наступающими праздниками !
Like the way this came out. The rivet with the large head was neat.

Mostly I keep the shop pretty open so there is always fresh air.
Where can I get a stealth hammer like that ?
Boy that was a huge editing mistake on my part. I don't think there is anything I can do to fix it once the video is live on UA-cam
Rawhide vs Wood Mallet. Which do you prefer, and what are the pros and cons of each?
I like the iron bodied rawhide, they are heavy without being to large
I've never done any firging so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but are finished products like this "dirty"? As in your hands will get dirty from handling them? I'm a machinist by trade abd I know my hands can get dirty from just handling metal. Or is that what that paste wax finish is for?
What kind of pen are you using to mark the metal?
can u show us how to to do a blacksmiths diamond
Have you ever forged corners for steamer trunk style boxes? I was digging through your videos looking but never found anything
Yes, but it was long before I started doing videos. Its more of a folding operation.
@@BlackBearForge did you forge weld the corner that meets up in the middle of the fold?
@@waynemitchell8254 I don't think so. As I recall I just put the seem to the underside of the chest.
Sorry John I feel like I'm always the one asking dumb questions. But is it possible to do like a "double headed rivet" so the body stands between the cup and the stand and is then peened inside the cup and underneath the stand with the body of the rivet between the two? Just a thought I had whilst watching you there
I think would be very difficult as an intermediate head. However, it would be very easy to just add a spacer between the base and the dish.
@@BlackBearForge how would you attach a spacer? Forget weld? Tack welding?
@@paulcorrigan649 Just make it with a hole in it and pass the rivet through all three pieces securing them at the same time
Here's a spring loaded hold down works for different sizes of stock:
ua-cam.com/video/zMIA3_cKC-o/v-deo.html
What is it about that anvil that doesn’t work well with a holdfast?
Too tall at the pritchell hole. Holdfasts need more lean in them to jamb in place.
Beautiful simple project. 1 small correction at the beginning, 12" = 305 mm.
The lack of sound is so eerie.
Sorry, that was an editing mistake on my part
@@BlackBearForge just a statement, not a criticism.
No need for excuses.
Why is the sound cutting out when you're forging? At least at the start.....
What kind of Pen is that on the metall?
Its a welders silver pencil. Available from most welding suppliers. I think I have a few listed in my Etsy shop at the moment.
