Was time to do some Supertramp!! Next week we’ll set up a poll for you guys to vote in which song we hit from them next just because there seems to be so many options? Which songs should be on the poll?! Cheers guys! See you Friday! 🙌🏻🔥
When I was a young man in the late 70s, we were recording a studio demo, these guys were using a rehearsal hall getting ready for this album tour. Incredibly talented. Check out Breakfast in America, the title cut.
Getting a little off topic as far as Supertramp is concerned, but I had to do an hour drive today and put on an album that I used to own on CD until I gave it away, Bad Mistske! Siamese Dreams by Smashing Pumpkins! Turn up the volume as far up as your ears will allow and settle it for some of the very very few bands that I enjoyed listening to in the 90’s. Have you all ever thought of reacting to old schools blues ? Muddy Watters, John Lee Hooker, Elmore James and the other blues legends that influenced the development of Rock and Roll . Mannis Boy would be a good start.
I like the lyrics discussion.👍 I find it very interesting to hear how other minds interpret the song. Y'all are probably 40 years younger than me(I'm 68) so you often have a different perspective than someone like me who lived through the years these songs came out. I have to say I'm looking forward to when you get around to reacting to Joe Walsh's, "The Confessor"!😁 I think you'll be impressed with the lyrics 💯 and I believe you'll love the way he shreds the guitar.🔥🤯 Great show as always!❤️✌️
Here for the sauce always guys... 'Try Give a little bit' next.... or my fave "Take a look at my Girlfriend' Before these guys hit it big they drew lots to see which one would be the "stud" of the band because they were all pretty normal looking guys... the sax player won.. or some might say lost!
True story. Mid 80s. I'm playing bass in a bar band. Supertramp is in Cleveland for a concert. About midnight people start requesting Supertramp songs, which we don't do. I look over at the bar and see John Helliwell at the bar. I say; hey, that guy knows some Supertramp. Turns out the whole band was there. Came up on stage. Owner locks the doors. We're doing shots and hanging/jamming with the band. We're there till like 5AM. A memory I'll never forget. Thanks, guys, for the reaction. Peace out.
@@xebio6 I don't recall specifics. They actually were jamming on other tunes or improvising on various chord changes. Just having fun. (And drinking A LOT!)
I'm so happy to see young people keeping this music ALIVE, I'm nearly 80years old and I think this music from 60s &70s unbeatable, keep on rocking guys.....
I love that you get into the lyrics. Sometimes they are everything and the music carries it. A great song is Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty, amazing song. Here for the sauce 💜
I think they would get lost in the sauce and goosebumps for the sax. The album City To City is one of my favorite albums. It's rare to find an album that contains all great songs. In my humble opinion, this is one that does. Also Toad The Wet Sprocket album Dulcinea, Rick Derringer's solo album Derringer and a few more.
That cryin' harmonica intro gives me chills. Extraordinary musical arrangements on this song, and every song on this album. Breakfast in America was one of my favorite vinyl LPs as a kid in the 70's.
The summer of 1979. I remember it well. Bad Company just put out their album "Desolation Angels" and Supertramp came out with "Breakfast in America". These two albums were all over the radio, especially "Breakfast in America". They had four US radio hits reach the charts on it. The Logical Song #6, Take the Long Way Home #10, Goodbye Stranger #15 and the title track Breakfast in America #62. This is a Classic album. Roger Hodgson has a unusual but great voice. Y'all should purchase it.
I remember that well. I was still a kid back then but I remember hearing this on the radio when my parents were getting ready for work. I wound up getting the album. Very cool song and band.
I'm not going to say you're wrong, Chris, as it's your opinion, but I disagree, partially. I agree with Crime of the Century being their best album, but for me their best song is either Give A Little Bit or Fools Overture.
Love them all, but Even In The Quietest Moments is my favorite album, with Crime a close 2nd. Just an amazing band. I wish Roger would allow them to reform and tour together after next year when concerts come back, but he seems content on his own. I wanna see Roger and Rick tour together again! Them and Pink Floyd could never get passed their differences, which was a shame for live music.
“Take The Long Way Home” still remains as one of my all time favorite tunes. It’s one of the first songs I remember hearing as a child and it has always stuck with me. I highly suggest “Bloody Well Right” by Supertramp! Why you ask? Because I’m here for the sauce! 🤘
From the same album, the song “Breakfast in America” is amazing. Other songs to check out are “Bloody Well Right,” “Goodbye Stranger,” “Give a Little Bit.” “School,” “ Fool’s Overture.”
I had the album in 1975. By 1976 I had worn it out and had to get another. One of my favourite albums of all time. I agree "hide In Your Shell" is an amazing piece of work! (But then, the whole album is brilliant)
You guys need to delve into The Allen Parsons Project, “The Mysteries and Imagination of Edgar Allen Poe”. They took Poe’s poems and short stories and made them into musical masterpieces. Two of the best being, ‘The Raven’ and ‘Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether’. Definitely worth checking. It’ s both creepy, fun, and innovative, good luck!
Boys, this was my song. I was leaving a job that was killing me (under appreciated and over burdened) and heading home to a loveless marriage. I'd always stop and grab a cup of tea (wanting something stronger) and drive down to the beach, and watch the world go by before I had to leave. I'd think about the things that I could have, or should have been. Then my wife would call and ask if I was almost home yet. Bubble burst.
One of my best friends died at 15 I was 15 too we all gatherer and remembered him while listening too The long way home it was 1980 cool just watching these guys enjoy this unbelievable music thanks
And Goodbye Stranger was written by Rick Davies - the harder edged rocker of the two main songwriters. Logical Song & this song were written by Rodger Hodgson.
I had to chuckle when Alex said, "It wasn't strictly a banger ... a complex atmospheric song". I'd say that sums up about 75% of the music you guys and your fans are into. Me included. Keep up the good work , still love you guys. Cheers from the canadian Queen nut.
I personally think y’all checking out the lyrics is so important and for a lot of songs the lyrics are the best part of them. So y’all keep it up I love it 😁.
Absolutely! That song has layers (no pun intended). The "anti-hero" explains his point of view so honestly and directly, yet you wonder what made the guy turn out like that. And the guitar solo at the end is pure ear candy.
I guess ya had to be there... Imagine growing up in the late 50’s, 60’s and 70’s when new genres of music were coming out every 2 or 3 years. Supertramp’s Breakfast in America was one of those really big moments for me when a band is going beyond guitars, synths, drums, etc., and introducing French horns, tuba’s, clarinet’s in a new type of pop music. What a great time to grow up musically. Really glad to hear new generations appreciating Rush, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, etc. Great job!
Now that you've got a few of the hits out of the way. YOU NEED something off the Crime of the Century album. School, Crime of the Century, Rudy, Bloody Well Right... You need this album... And I always stay for the sauce homies!!
The genius behind this song is the layers all working together, especially during the chorus. The singer is singing one melody, the piano is playing another, and then the strings are playing yet another. The bass jumps between the three. All three play together at the same time and just fit like a glove. You can listen to just one layer and see how it blends with the others. That's a great arrangement.
There was a time when I suspected that Roger Hodgson (Supertramp), Kevin Cronin (REO Speedwagon), Dennis DeYoung (Styx) and Geddy Lee might've all secretly used the same ghost vocalist.

What a song! School, Hide in Your Shell or anything off Crime of the Century next please. Cracking album with more of a progressive genre than commercially friendly pop like the later breakfast in america. Also some phenomenal lyrics and meanings.
Agree, Crime of the Century album starts good with School and then the entire album just gets better and better until it explodes in the final track Crime of the Century. A superb album
How can you even compare that to any of Rick Wakemans materials! You are out of your mind! Search you tube Rick Wakemans piano works, You will see how sorely mistaken you are!!!
Do songs off Crime of The Century Progressive Rock masterpieces - Some of their best material like School, Bloody Well Right, Asylum, Dreamer, Rudy And The title track. Listen to what Rick Davis’s voice is like do “Bloody Well Right”
Also by Supertramp: Check out "Rudy" from the album "Crime of the Century." Title track from "Even in the Quietest Moments" is spectacular. Full-on instrumentation on display in both songs.
Supertramp may have been the best "sounding" band of all time. Their recording quality was always impeccable. Layers of pleasant sound and fil. Classy to the extreme.
The ENTIRE album Crime of the Century is a MUST listen, it is my personal favorite and imo it is their best album creatively! EVERY SONG IS A 10! Anyway thanks for all your reactions, I look forward to them every week!

Goodbye Stranger first and the title track, Breakfast in America

"Give a Little Bit", "Goodbye Stranger", "Breakfast in America", "Babaji"
GIVE A LITTLE BIT....YESSSSSSS
"Goodbye Stranger"(wonder how they'll react to the last minute of the song?🤔)
"Even in the quietest moments" one of those headphone songs that you go on a journey then come back
The whole damn album❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

That is me now, in my 60's I seem to always want to take the long way home.
Another great British band, this is real talent
They played the shit out of this song when it come out. I was 16 yes old.
Child of Vision from this album is a sensational 🎧 song!
Good Supertramp trip I forgot they were so good !
I feel like I hear a jet engine spooling down during the end fade out.
It’s a Killer Wall Of Sound! 😎

I love Supertramp. Please listen to Fools Overture! It is probably their best.
Their best!
Fools Overture = brilliant
Incredible song by a great band!! You have to listen to Sister Moonshine.
Frankly, I feel Breakfast In America is best listened to in toto.....its very conceptual in a way like Hotel California. It tells a story.
I would so love to hear what you think about "School" on Crime of the Century...
Here is your next dive into Supertramp - 'Bloody Well Right' (1974) To use your terminology, I'll say it's a " banger"

Agree, Crime of the Century album starts good with School and then the entire album just gets better and better until it explodes in the final track Crime of the Century. A superb album
Crime of the Century is my favorite Supertamp album.
You guys have to react to “School”. Best piano solo of all time
I was just thinking of the piano solo for School. This is probably my favorite Supertramp song.
How can you even compare that to any of Rick Wakemans materials! You are out of your mind! Search you tube Rick Wakemans piano works, You will see how sorely mistaken you are!!!
Who's The pianist in school
This is one of the greatest songs ever written, of any genre. It’s a masterpiece, IMO.
I love this song, especially the harmonica. ❤
You guys are killing me. I've been screaming SCHOOL forever. SCHOOL SCHOOL SCHOOL
The pause to review the lyrics after hearing the song is a HUGE addition to the videos, fantastic idea!
IMO, every track from "The Crime of the Century" album is worth reacting to.
The 70's once again proving that it cannot be matched in artistic, musical expression. There will never be a decade like it again IMO
This LP was the one the masses jumped onto. You have to delve into their earlier stuff, including "Crime of the Century" LP.
Crisis..What Crisis is good too
Do songs off Crime of The Century Progressive Rock masterpieces - Some of their best material like School, Bloody Well Right, Asylum, Dreamer, Rudy And The title track. Listen to what Rick Davis’s voice is like do “Bloody Well Right”
Gordon Lightfoot - Sundown...good easy listening, alcohol-sipping song.
Oh ya, one of my personal favorites!
This song has an earworm factor that just makes it timeless
"Give a Little Bit" would be an excellent Supertramp to check out next. Love the lyrical breakdown. More please. Btw I stayed till the end. SAUCE ❤
Trust me guys, you need to check out
1. Rudy and
2. School.
The Crime of the Century album is MUCH superior to this one.
Bloody Well Right! :) I don't get why they picked this album at all. I really don't. it's so commercial in comparison.
Both are great
School for sure!
Asylum
@Chris Paul my favorite Super Tramp song
Also by Supertramp: Check out "Rudy" from the album "Crime of the Century." Title track from "Even in the Quietest Moments" is spectacular. Full-on instrumentation on display in both songs.
Supertramp may have been the best "sounding" band of all time. Their recording quality was always impeccable. Layers of pleasant sound and fil. Classy to the extreme.
"Goodbye Stranger" will be the A+ you are looking for. (here for the sauce)
Incredible guitar work on the way out.
"Goodbye Stranger" needs to happen.
The ENTIRE album Crime of the Century is a MUST listen, it is my personal favorite and imo it is their best album creatively! EVERY SONG IS A 10! Anyway thanks for all your reactions, I look forward to them every week!
