  • Back to the bushcraft basecamp for an overnighter. The sunny weather turned to rain, so my plans for campfire cooking outside turned to campfire cooking indoors to the sound of rain hitting the canvas tent. Tasty food, great ambience and another awesome overnighter in this beautiful spot.

    Agree completely with "Elwha", you should have a bushcraft cooking show as a serie, maybe 10 episodes or so, doing different stuff and explain certain difficulties for each particular episode. I tried to do a fire in my tipi, just the same you have, ( I also have a safire 5 light) but had a smoky experience. Using Tentipis firebox 7 was a bit better, gave a quite noticable heat, was less smoky and I just felt a bit safer. But still, the use of wood from the camp site thats usually humid, makes it challenging to keep the fire burn somewhat smoke free.Having the fire going inside though is really nice when it works, the soft light, the warming, the drying capacity and just the quiet sound from the fire ( no spruce!!) is really nice and relaxing. I guess your general bushcraft skills and your experience from many many fires make you more succesful than I was with the plain fire on the ground inside the tent. Really nice video. thank you very much. Bo Nilsson

    Well Ric, I think you should have your own "Bushcraft Cooking" show on the food channel. I thought the bread was totally over the top but then you kicked it up a notch with the stuffed bell peppers. I had to go get something to eat. Great show as usual. Again, I appreciate how you pack things and keep everything in your kit in a logical order. Lots of good learning in your vids.

    You've inspired me to start baking my own bread at home. The bread at all of the local markets is expensive and usually only a couple of days from being stale. Not to mention just not very tasty. If you can bake bread in your tent, surely I can do it at home.

    At first when I saw you were making a fire inside the tent I said to myself , that guy gonna get smoked like a salmon 😂 . I then saw the convertible tent with an opening, witch was the first time I see something like that. Ever tried it in winter ? Also, the food you make is awsome, a little jealous I am . Thank's for taking time to show all the preparation for the food and for the nice video. Only one thing bothering me when you prepare your food is your hands not washed enough, but It's only me , dont bother 😂 see you in the next 👍

    The person nag, has great skills and discipline to think go slowly and complete tasks at hand most effectively! They nag, are well practiced at cooking and can make do in a primitive environment! The person nag, never rushes and fucks things up and burns everything! That’s a lot of gear to be packing though! I think nag is on a canoe though?

    When you built the fire at the beginning and smoked it out,is that to drive away any insects and rodents that might be in your tent?

    • @NagualeroArt
      @NagualeroArt  5 років тому +3

      Cool that you noticed that. It was for insects. If you look closely at the shot showing the tipi roof hole you can see 2 wasp nests. Small ones . The smoke made them leave. Rodents dart off the minute they feel footstep vibrations.

    I've spent almost 50 years cooking in the back country. Never liked those premade freezed dried meals so learned early to cook for myself. But that loaf of bread, wow, its beautiful. When you cut it open and buttered it, my mind was screaming "taste it already," and I think I could taste right along with you. Although a vegetarian myself, I've always enjoyed watching you cook and those peppers looked great too. I can imagine a veggie version already. Thanks brother.

    Hi Ric,
    Do you prefer the Dutch oven over the Winnerwell Fastfold oven to bake bread? Trying to decide which one is more useful.

    • @NagualeroArt
      @NagualeroArt  5 років тому +2

      It depends what you want to do. I like both. the Dutch oven is more versatile, you can make stews and fry thing in it as well as baking. It’s heavier than the winnerwell oven. The fastfold oven is great for baking and anything eles you would do in a normal oven plus it’s practical to carry and lightweight compared to most Dutch ovens. If I had to choose I would go with a Dutch oven.

    Oh, my. The only time for me to watch one of your videos where cooking is involved, is right after a full meal. Otherwise I'm up raiding the kitchen for ingredients, then outside in the back yard cooking. Fine video, as usual. Back when I had a real tipi (sixty or so years ago) the top where the smoke flaps were eventually got really stiff from soot and creosote. Eventually made it hard to roll up and pack away.

    Maestro Nagaulero, you had so much meat in that Dutch oven were you expecting some bears over for dinner? Your meals always amaze. Some food for thought. Next time you make that dough thats as soft as a babies bum, before you put it in the fire pull half out put sone big fat slices of pepperoni, then some slices of mozzarella and then some Pecorino Romano then put the dough on top. Put on the fire. Its a one pot meal you will win over all your Italian UA-cam viewers! Known in these parts as a Calzone. Great video as always! Regards from the land of great Italian food, New York. :-)
