Happy to see Topo shoes featured on the channel. I started buying Topo after experiencing severe quality issues with Altra shoes. Topo shoes are far more durable from my experience so far and my feet love the wide toebox. I‘d be very happy to see some of their trails shoes reviewed on the channel.
Good to see some Topo coverage! Sadly, like Inov8, I've never been able to try them on since they're not in many stores, but I'm always a fan of wide toe box brands!
Thanks. I'm a big fan of Topos on trails, they served me well in a couple of hard races, including UTMB. Atmos is definitely now on my list to try for the road. Also, nice that you are not taking yourself so seriously and include the bloopers 😂.
I was thinking the Topo Ultra 2 was a more recent review you did, but was surprised to learn it’s been 3 years since even that one! I can’t believe time has flown that much. Felt like that was just last year.
I had the Atmos. Ran in them heavily for about half a year. They werent bad but I did get some hotspots cause they fit a half size too big and once my foot would sweat it would slide around a bit.
Used the topo ultraventure for the last 50 miles of a 100 miler. Perfect for swollen feet. Great shoes with that zip foam. Went all the way to the end with them and could have gone further.
Nice review Loyd. I’ve just had a pair of the Specter 2 delivered today. I’m hoping they’ll be suited to marathon race day as well as long training runs as they look a bit speedier than the Atmos. Holding off on giving them a whirl just yet as I have also managed to bag a pair of Asics Superblast 2 which arrive shortly to compare against the Topos
I’ve just bought my second pair of these after getting my initial pair at the end of Jan, I average around 550km a month and was doing the majority of my runs in these, including all long runs, good few uptempo sessions, some off road, and everything in between and somewhat needless to say I just loved them, literally can’t fault them.
If you haven't already, get some, Topo FKT Insoles, $20, they made the whole shoe even better for me, the original insoles are very soft (hardly anything there) and those FKT insoles give just a little bit of a firmer layer on top and help with the rougher trails, they keep things slightly more uniform. Referred by this gentlemen and was surprised at the difference. "600 Mile Long Term Review - Topo Athletic MTN Racer 3" Just ordered some Atmos and will probably get some for those, too.
I have these shoes and I really wish they were perfect for me but the arch support is too much. Anything over 10 miles and I start to develop hot spots. They are durable though and pretty comfortable apart from the arch issue.
I’d be interested in a review of the other TOPO shoes - phantom & cyclone. Did you have any issues with the arch support ? I’ve got used to not having any and finding my TOPO’s are irritating my arch a bit
A few people have mentioned the arch being too aggressive but I didn’t have any issues? Obviously it comes down to personal foot shape and arch height. I’ll see what I can do about the other Topo shoes 👍🙂
I'm currently loving the full pebax midsole Topo Athletic Specter 2 (37mm x 32mm stack). Loyd, what long sleeved running top were you wearing on your run (a SaySky model I assume)? Cheers.
I’ve heard the Specter is a good shoe, I’d be interested in testing them out at some point. The top is a SAYSKY Pace long sleeve, really comfortable to run in 👍
It didn’t feel aggressive to me? To be fair I’ve never felt that the arc is aggressive in any Topo shoes I’ve run in? Obviously a lot of it comes down to foot shape 👍
Would love to hear your thoughts on how these and the Inov8 Roadfly compare; both medium-drop shoes with wide toe boxes coming from companies with (I think) stronger trail backgrounds than road backgrouds.
No worries! I’d say the midsole performs better on the Atmos compared to the Shift 3. The Atmos felt more comfortable underfoot and it gave we more energy return 👍🙂

I got Topos for this exact same reason - disappointing quality of latest Altra trainers. Super happy with Topos!
I’ve had a view durability issues with Altra shoes in the past so it’s great to hear you’ve had a good experience Nico 👍
I truly hated the MTN Racer 3 (on actual mountain trails), so a review of those will constitute a major test of review quality/applicability for me.
Glad you liked it. I’m 200 miles into my pair and they actually get better once properly bedded in, which for me took a good few runs
So far so good 👍🙂

You’re right, you don’t see Topo in running shops that often! I stocked them for a while but I didn’t sell many pairs 🤔

That’s great to hear! I’ll be trying out some of their trail shoes soon hopefully. I’ve never taken myself to seriously 😀

Nice review👌. I’ve recently purchased topo specter 2 and it’s a great shoe and if you try it, you won’t be disappointed
I’ve heard good things about the Specter 2, I’ll see what I can do 👍
I hope the Altra fwd via gets on your channel. Topo are making some serious moves... Again
I had the Atmos. Ran in them heavily for about half a year. They werent bad but I did get some hotspots cause they fit a half size too big and once my foot would sweat it would slide around a bit.
I actually found them true to size, the uk9.5 fits we well? 🤔
I hope that you will test the upcoming Topo Vista that will be available in June.

The Specter is definitely a quicker shoe, I’ve heard good things about them! I hope you find a shoe that’s right for you Neil 👍

That’s great to hear! 550km a month 😮
There is a triple black color option as well.
I’m not sure the black option is available in the UK? 🤔
The topo mtn racer 3 is amazing

Yeah, the arch support was mentioned by another shoe reviewer. It's putting me off from trying this shoe.
I found it uncomfortable first few runs then it kinda just squished down tbh don’t let it discourage you
@@cvrvdio3592I’ve had issues with the arch in both my TOPO’s (phantom & cyclone) how many miles did it take for you to bed them in?
I didn’t have any arch issues on my first run but that was just under 10 miles so it will be interesting to see how they feel on a longer run Emma 👍
I’d be interested in a review of the other TOPO shoes - phantom & cyclone. Did you have any issues with the arch support ? I’ve got used to not having any and finding my TOPO’s are irritating my arch a bit

Hi. Thanks, Loyd. I prefer the topo magnifly 5. Like. A nice weekend for everyone.
Thanks Manuel 👍🙂
Seems like a really decent option. Good chance I will get some based on this review.
If you do, I hope you enjoy them! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🙏🙂

Looks a very nice road shoe,
Good looking shoe indeed
The weight is similar to the Bondi 8s. When I would run in them my legs would feel tired. Is it similar?
I didn’t have that issue with the Atmos. I think the Bondi has a bigger midsole so maybe it’s that? 🤔
What kind of foam is it? TPU or Peba or something else?
Nice looking shoes but £10 more than Hoka Mach 6s which I’m still loving
The Mach 6 is a great shoe, I’m a fan Paul! 👍🙂
Does TOPO still have the aggressive arch support?
Looks like it from the shape of the insole :(
It didn’t feel aggressive to me? To be fair I’ve never felt that the arc is aggressive in any Topo shoes I’ve run in? Obviously a lot of it comes down to foot shape 👍
This was mentioned in another review I watched. Thinking I'll pass on this shoe.
@@jordanschneider1077 👍
I can’t stand arch support, have Topo athletic MTN racer 3 - no problem at all. Super comfy.
Would love to hear your thoughts on how these and the Inov8 Roadfly compare; both medium-drop shoes with wide toe boxes coming from companies with (I think) stronger trail backgrounds than road backgrouds.
I’ll see what I can do 👍
Did you say 5mm drop? On a Topo shoe?
Yes, the Atmos has a 5mm heel to toe drop? 🤔
@Run4Adventure Guess I'll have to rethink my Topo aversion. If they're willing to forgo the whole, zero-drop-thing, then I might try a pair.
@ Topo have always put a low heel off set on their running shoes? Altra is the zero drop brand and they even produce a shoe with a heel off set now 👍
Very similar to the Altra FWD VIA
I’m put off by my experience with the Altra VIA Olympus 🤔
Thanks Loyd. How would you compare them to the Endorphin Shift 3?
No worries! I’d say the midsole performs better on the Atmos compared to the Shift 3. The Atmos felt more comfortable underfoot and it gave we more energy return 👍🙂
Nice. Thanks. Need to replace my poor old Shifts, maybe these are an option - it’s the rocker I’m after, on something cushioned and responsive.
8.98 miles 🙈
When my run’s finished, it’s finished! You won’t see me running round in circles to round it up 😂

Pricing for Topo is brutal and unacceptable in Canada. $240 for this basic high cushion shoe.
That’s only £133 sterling, that’s £17 cheaper than it is in the UK! 🤔
@Run4Adventure Well then it's too much money across the pond as well!!! Lol
@ I’d say that’s an average price in the UK for running shoes these day! The world has gone mad 🤪
