    This is a great video, one of the best i've seen with the split screen showing energetic flow. I've been doing Stand Like a Tree qi gong for a few years since recovering from two surgeries which occurred the same month. And now I am happy to find this Dragon and Tiger qi gong. Thank you for sharing this video with us.

    Great demonstration Steven. I only embarked on my Dragon and Tiger journey yesterday when I came across your video which I instantly liked...no trivial stuff, just the core, essential facts, and practical, highly palatable demonstration of this first class medical Qigong. I am a Tai Chi and Qigong instructor, but to date, have only taught TaiChi-Qigong (Shibashi) and although I love the various Shibashi sets, Dragon and Tiger places more emphasis on the instruction of the internal Neigong components, while posing a considerably greater challenge with regard to reaching a profound synchronization of the movements, which clearly, as you suggest in your video, is the "Essential Key to intensifying and harmonizing Qi". So many thanks to you for your generous and detailed exposition of this incredibly effective medical Qigong! May your 气能 always flow harmoniously!" (Michael Watts)

Your clarity, use of graphics and pacing made for an effective and really mesmerizing experience. I feel this will probably be only the first of many viewings for me. Many thanks.

      You’re most welcome, and I really appreciate your thoughtful comments. I’ve taught this qigong to hundreds of people since 1997, and the master I learned it from has taught it to probably tens of thousands of people. Personal experience and historical longevity-it’s existed for over 1,500 years!-has proved it to be a highly effective qigong. If it interests you, I’d encourage you to find a qualified teacher and learn it for yourself. I’m sure you’ll find it time well spent.

      You are so welcome, Phoebe! Glad you enjoyed it. Regarding the breathing, keep in mind that this is more a demo video rather than a "how to" video. Anything powerful enough to heal has the potential to be harmful if done incorrectly, so there's actually a tremendous amount of information purposely left out of the demo. There's enough here to give people a detailed overview and hopefully encourage them to find a qualified teacher to really learn how to do Dragon & Tiger. If you'd like to learn more about this and other qigong practices I teach, please take a look at my website here: www.healingdragon.org Best wishes!

      Hi, and thanks for your comment. As noted in the title, this is intended as a demo video, to give a detailed overview of the practice, not instruction on how to do it. Many of my students do use it as a practice aid once they've begun actually learning how to do Dragon & Tiger, but depending on how deep you want to go with it, that can be a years-long process. Breathing is included in the training after the movements are accurately learned. I offer online instruction over zoom, so if you think you might want to learn D & T some day, you can contact me at my website, www.healingdragon.org, and ask to be put on my mailing list. That way you'll know as soon as the next training is scheduled to begin. In the mean time, best of luck to you!

    Hi Steve, great video. I recently passed my L2 Dragon Tiger exam in Washington and have been studying with Bruce for over ten years, and study privately with Bill, ('m not currently listed due to some Tibetan fire stuff that i'm no longer practicing.) I wondered if you might be interested in a theory of mine i've been working on for some time?
    Due to our social conditioning since the 19th century the belief in atomic structure and the anatomy/cadaver dissection/ eye sense view of reality means we've missed out on some very old and very interesting physics.
    Here goes the latest version of my argument:-
    We live at the bottom of an ocean of air and float very subtly, this subtle buoyancy generates the experience of feeling "chi" in a number of ways.
    The cushioning effect of air pressure is "contained" within the structures of our body dealing with Tensegrity.
    The ligaments, fascia and blood vessels work together as an integrated unit of internal expansive tension that is entirely informed by air pressure ie. on Mars without a pressure suit you would expand very slightly in all directions away from the lower Tan tien as the dissolved gasses in the joints become gas once more.
    I would argue we are powerfully conditioned to think of ourselves as solid rather than liquid elastic.
    Chi, life, the subtle hydraulic pressure changes that regulate health (or martial power) are generated within the gut and are non physical.
    As evidence of how subtle buoyancy and chi are linked, another set of subtle physics is invoked, Cymatics.
    Even in a "silent" room or cave there is a tremendous a mount of vibration present as sound. 30-50 decibels.
    (back to air pressure)- the only shape that deals with buoyancy effectively in nature is the parabolic plane.
    Any vibration that reflects off the inside of a parabolic surface creates regions of silence or nodes where the sound is cancelled out.
    In a three dimensional container, these nodes become tapestries of silence, check out my channel for experimental proof of this theory. There is no plane within the human body that is NOT parabolic.
    I would argue that when our minds go internal, before we come across the solid structures, we meet (with our parasympathetic nervous system?) these channels of stillness, they are integral to how organs and cells function, they use sound to make decisions as much as chemical triggers.
    When we feel, we release the conditioned structures that our brain is trying to impose on us.
    Do these theories resonate with you by any chance?
    I understand the classical "thinking is bad" chi kung arguments VERY well as it does spike up to the brain but am now calling that Maoist Taoism.
    Unless we can bring the "hippies and geeks" on to the same page, the "materialists" will keep running the show with all that implies in terms of power, compassion and the future of the planet.
    I would be VERY happy to be proven wrong as these ideas are a bit of a social curse but have not yet encountered any decent argument to counter it.
    Please help! I was raised by a physicists (and social scientist) to be a physicist and genuinely think that if I can find the right platform within Taoism to discuss this stuff it could be overwhelmingly beneficial.

      @@rbndchsn7672 Hi Rbn, the horror is we (our brains) do make it up as we go along!
      "Objective" reality is useful a romantic farce that "is us" in the matrix. Enjoy:)
      But Why can people not accept that they float a tiny (vital!) bit on air? It changes EVERYTHING in terms of educational expectation of how reality works!

      @stevencardoza6521  Рік тому +1

      Hi Ahmet. This is a question that requires some detail to answer fully, but the short answer for now is you begin by feeling it at the perimeter of your qi body, and over time feel that connecting to deeper aspects within your body along the Dragon and Tiger energy lines. The video is intended as a demo and not as instruction, as there is way too much depth to be addressed in such a short video. If you'd like to really learn Dragon and Tiger, or any of the other qigongs that I teach, please ask to be put on my online class email list through my website: www.healingdragon.org That way, you can be informed about when I begin a new online Dragon and Tiger class, which will teach you how to really do this qigong completely and accurately. All the best to you.

    Very helpful video, many thanks for producing it. I'm curious, though, because many of the moves, and the sequence itself, seem to have changed significantly from what I was taught by Bill R. about 20 years ago. It's a bit confusing that such an ancient practice would be so significantly modified in recent years. Thanks in advance for any insight you could provide.

      Hi Rick.
      Thanks for your comments.
      To answer your question, first, you should know that the version of D & T that Bruce primarily teaches is a variation created in the mid-1900s by a TCM doctor who modified it to be a more powerful medical qigong set. So although D & T is over 1,500 years old, it's undergone changes as it's evolved over the centuries. As to why it appears different from what you remember learning from Bill 20 years ago, here are a few possible reasons, but of course I can't be sure of exactly what applies in your case. Depending on the *level* of D & T you were taught, there may have been some simplifications or personal accommodations made. D & T is pretty versatile, and capable of being modified to meet specific needs and objectives. Even the sequence can be altered for specific purposes, but the sequence shown here is exactly the sequence, the template, as it should be performed in all cases when a specific modification is not required to address a personal health need. Next, there are inherent variations as one advances in the practice. For example, in Movement 3, at a beginner's level, it's practiced as shown in my video. At a Level 2 stage of practice, both hands push down the outside of the legs and pull up the inside of the legs. At a Level 3 stage of practice, it's again practiced as shown in the video, but with significantly deeper energetics. Finally (for now!), I've taught this since around 1995. When I see students who I taught years ago and who have practiced on their own for some time, many unintentionally introduce variations based on incomplete memory of what they were taught, misunderstandings, or the inevitable degradation that can occur when someone doesn't get periodic corrections and upgrades. Those variations can seem like the correct way to them, since they've essentially been practicing in a vacuum and have created their own "normal". These are some of the more common reasons you might find this video confusing in places. I hope this helps!

      Hi Rhonda! Glad you liked the video, and thanks for your interest in qigong. Dragon & Tiger is a great qigong set to practice daily, with many far-reaching benefits. Unfortunately, the video does not *teach* you how to do it, it's intended as a detailed overview, and it can be used as a practice reminder and aid once someone learns how to do it. Many of my students watch it regularly for that purpose. While it won't hurt you to try to follow along without training, you'll really miss a lot of what's contained within the form, and so miss out on the majority of its benefits. I currently have two D & T classes in session, but they are no longer at a beginner's level. If you'd like to be added to the Wait List for the next beginner's class, please let me know by going to my website and request the add: www.healingdragon.org/appointments-registration There's a lot of other information you'll find there that may interest you too, so take a look around! Good health and abundant qi!

      Hi Celes. There are a couple of books I can recommend, Dragon & Tiger Medical Qigong Vol. 1 & 2, by B.K. Frantzis. This will help you a lot. To really understand and learn Dragon & Tiger well, it's always best to work with a teacher whenever possible, though. B.K. Frantzis will tell you that too even though he wrote those books. Still, the books will be a good place to start, and your most economical option. If you want individualized instruction, I am available for Facetime or Skype lessons, and if you get enough friends interested to cover my expenses, I might even consider a trip to Goa to teach you in person ;-) Best wishes.

    • @stevencardoza6521
      @stevencardoza6521  3 роки тому

      Hi Tim. Glad you liked the video!
      The short answer to your question is, the “how” is pretty much always the same, by the coordinated regulation of body, breath, and mind. The “why, where, and when” can vary a little or a lot depending on the purpose of the particular qigong you’re doing. And yes, all of this requires training, there are no short cuts.
      There a number of youtube videos on my channel that will be of some help in furthering your understanding, and that would be my first recommendation.
      Next, you may find some additional useful information on my website, www.healingdragon.org. So far, all of this is free info, well within the constraints of your pension ;-)
      My first book (Chinese Healing Exercises) is currently out of print, and that’s why you may have found copies being sold at highly inflated prices online. It’s a great book, very useful and I’m guessing that’s why people are asking and getting such a high price whether new or used. My second book (Chinese Holistic Medicine In Your Daily Life) is still in print, so you can get it very reasonably priced on Amazon and elsewhere. I’ve got two more books in the works, so keep your eyes peeled. Or subscribe to my youtube channel or email list (on my website)-both free-to be notified as soon as they’re available.
      There is no substitute for in-person training. During these days of covid restrictions, I offer online private lessons and group classes, which, while not ideal, get you well within the ballpark. You can find out about those on my website. These are the least economical options but can be targeted to your specific needs and will develop your ability the soonest and most effectively.
      Beyond that, the internet provides loads of free information. Quality will be a crap shoot, but there’s a lot of good stuff out there too.
      Good luck in your endeavors!

      Thanks for your interest in Dragon & Tiger medical qigong! Dragon & Tiger was introduced to the western world by Daoist Master Bruce Frantzis in the 1980s. I studied various qigongs with him starting in 1987, and began learning Dragon & Tiger in 1995. I was certified to teach it in 1997, and have continued studying the practice with Bruce over the decades, primarily in California and sometimes in Massachusetts. As recently as last summer, I attended a two-week Dragon & Tiger training with him in Washington D.C. to deepen my understanding and cultivation of this very rich practice.

      Amit, I'm not really sure what you mean by this question. While taiji (for example) is a martial arts style of qigong, or can be practiced that way if all the neigong is included (a relative rarity in the US these days), qigong is not intrinsically a martial art. There are Daoist, Buddhist, Confucian, medical, and martial styles of qigong. Dragon & Tiger is a medical qigong and does not have martial content. It does, however, have a lot of internal content, especially when practiced at its most advanced levels. This video does not show that content, and in fact is meant as a detailed introductory demo, not intended to teach you how to do it. If you are interested in learning this form, please contact me through my website, www.healingdragon.org. I have a new Dragon and Tiger online course nearly ready to begin, in April or May. Best wishes!

      Hi Fr. James. There are 6 transitions, so I'm not sure which one you mean. I will say that apart from forming beak hands in movements 2, 4, & 5, and sword fingers in movements 6 & 7, no particular attention is paid to moving fingers individually in this practice, and not specifically in an acupuncture meridian (or five element) context. It's possible you just noticed a random finger movement, but if you want to let me know exactly which transition to which you're referring, I'll gladly take a look and get back to you with more detail if I can.

    • @stevencardoza6521
      @stevencardoza6521  6 років тому

      Movement 6 & 7 both use the sword finger hand posture, and that's maintained throughout the last transition between those two movements. That means that the fourth finger is held next to the fifth (pinkie) finger, and both form a circle by touching the thumb. While the hands are moved along the body before the flick at the end points of each move, they curve just a bit, so that the circle is a slightly flattened ellipse, but otherwise there is no specific movement in the fourth finger. I hope this clarifies!

    It baffles me how the videografer does not even understand the basic principles of how light ( an energy!) works in photography. This video is back lit and as such much of the demonstration is in silhouette, and on top of that, the teacher is wearing a red shirt that clearly does not work with the color of his hands as the subtle movements are not clearly visible. It's frustrating to watch and follow. However that is not to say the teacher is at fault. His knowledge and good intention is evident.

    Sorry, but this seems to be complete BS. Someone doesn't understand Chinese TCM at all. Oh, wait ... Kumar Frantzis taught this? Who has he studied with that doesn't disown him?

    • @stevencardoza6521
      @stevencardoza6521  5 років тому +1

      Hi Mike,
      You’re right! Sort of. Since the unfortunately-named TCM is actually a recent development of the mid-20th century’s communist Chinese government during the cultural revolution, as an attempt to homogenize, standardized, and “modernize” the rich and varied ways that classic Chinese medicine has always been practiced, with Mao Zedong in particular expunging anything we might identify as spiritual and purposely rebranding those things as superstition-he actually modified Chinese characters to reflect the communist anti-spiritual bias and has effectively, subtly brainwashed generations since the 1950s-Dragon & Tiger Qigong has little to do with contemporary TCM. It predates it by about 1,500 years, and its roots go much farther back than that, having more in common with classic Five Element, Daoist and Buddhist thought. I say this as someone thoroughly trained in TCM-I have a Master of Science degree in TCM-and while it’s a very respectable and effective medical system, it in no way encompasses all of Chinese medical and philosophical thought. I have not restricted myself to exclusively following the TCM mindset. So, D & T is BS? Nope, you got that very wrong.
      Bruce Kumar Frantzis being disowned by his teachers? He may be the *only* westerner publicly adopted, as a true son, by a Chinese Daoist master, and as a son was imparted a full Daoist lineage by his Chinese spiritual (and legal) father. His style may rub some people the wrong way, and that’s all it takes for some people to badmouth him, especially if he threatens their presumed authority. He delivers more fully and consistently than most.
      I encourage you to continue to study, increase your understanding and cultivate some wisdom. Until then, remember the words of Laozi regarding the Dao. “Those who speak, do not know. Those who know, do not speak.”

    • @Chunda8
      @Chunda8 5 років тому

      The thing I like best about Bruce's courses is that he teaches mostly online. You take the information he gives and then you do the work on your own in your practice. It's very empowering. If you have books or online courses, they would be put to the same rigorous testing process. Training with Bruce live changed my life greatly for the better and took my practice to a new level. Lots of his students have studied with known and respected masters previous to training with Bruce, in some cases their former teachers have included Olympic medalist athletes and coaches. If you post a link to your course materials, I'd be happy to test it out and see if you know better.
