every time I google looking for info for a pedal, I click the link and think, "man- this is a great demo" it ALWAYS turns out to be @gearmanndude @gearmanndude - you are the man
Having a Lex now and being in a band with a keyboardist who has a Ventilator my advice is they are so close in performance either is a good call, but on guitar that I would suggest the Lex for two reasons: 1. Previous positive experience with Strymon build quality and customer support, and 2. smaller form factor (less space) on the pedalboard.
Great presentation. And some excellent playing as well. Please don't sell yourself short- your video was better than 95% of the crap that I have viewed on youtube. Good stuff.
Cool that you started playing "I Looked Away" by Derek & the Dominos at about 3:00 :), GMD!! This pedal is awesome. Would like to see a shootout between the Lex and the Tech 21 Roto Choir.
Gearmandude - your reviews are awesome! And Strymon IS the coolest company going these days! Hey in your prestigious opinion: is this pedal going to give a univibe Trower/Gilmore/Hendrix thing? Or should I look elsewhere?
The features on this pedal are great. Especially cool that you can still get the sound of the Leslie pre-amp but turn off the "rotation" so you can get that squawk without the chorus and phasing effect. Let's you get some classic Jimmy Page tones ala Good Times, Bad Times or Black Dog. With the cool features, it's a damn shame this pedal doesn't feature stereo outs though -- then it might be a Leslie-killer.
size and the physical pedal of the lex is certainly better. i want to demo them but they aren't common pedals for my local guitar stores. not sure what to do. in the end it's all about what I think with my own setup of course, but at least I know these are the two to go to. The leslie pedal by hammond is coming out next month but from what I've read, it's essentially the same simulator from their one keyboards. most reviews prefer the ventilator. still looking forward to hearing it though
Thanks, actually since my post post I've gotten a Lex, and while it does a great SRV sound, and I like the lkeyboard sound it gives guitar with it's preamp it isn't a univibe at all - however I am really loooking closely at the Black Cat Vibe!
I'm really smacked right now and this is so great to listen to and just chill out.. you play really well, and I wouldd buy one of these but they're so damned expensive
Strymon are an awesome company! Gearman great demo! as always! any chance you doing a demo of the Carl Martin Octoswitch? I looked and didn't see it up on your videos (unless I missed it) thank you for all the great demo's!
Could you demo the TC electronics Nova Repeater, Morley Maverick and the GFS phase? Please! I will appreciate. Thanks if you do and or don't. Keep on keeping on keepinging on making great videos!) -PK
Gearmandude...time for a Leslie/Rotary pedal shootout. If you could do this with two amps that would be great (stereo out from the pedals into separate amps/mics).
I like the H&K rotosphere better. Sounds more like a leslie, less like a chorus. I really like the breakup on the rotosphere Downside is that it's 4x bigger than this...
Matt Smith most people like it after their drives. I have it before dirt and for me it works better this way. But you just have to experiment, I guess.
this isnt the lex, I think its something built into whatever keyboard he is using (i dont play the keys so who cares :p) but its a good comparison. /watch?v=O_l5fY1QoYo
quite possibly one of the best Leslie simulators out there. Kudos to the great people at Strymon for making such great pedals.
Make no mistake. This is a great pedal. If you're thinking of buying one, don't hesitate
Best demo of this baby! Gettin' mine in a few days.
Thank you, pal!
Sounds exactly like Jack Black

@gearmanndude - you are the man
Love the Leslie brake! What a great pedal......that gainy sound is to DIE for!

Good stuff.
Gear a dude,YOU hav changed my life,AGAIN!
Exactly! Wondering who else caught that. Outro solo's one of Clapton's most tasteful ever. Song is just PERFECT.

Love the Derek and the Dominos at the start of the demo !!
This thing sounds incredible. Better than the highly regarded mimi Deja Vibe I tried the other day. This thing sounds like the real thing!
Gearmandude - your reviews are awesome! And Strymon IS the coolest company going these days! Hey in your prestigious opinion: is this pedal going to give a univibe Trower/Gilmore/Hendrix thing? Or should I look elsewhere?
Tech 21 Roto Choir sounds fuller but is a little noisy. This pedal is a nice clean lesli sound
The features on this pedal are great. Thanks for not showing how fast you can play metal licks and just showing what the pedal can do.You sounded pretty good to me!
Thanks man for the demo, looking forward to using an expression pedal and some wah!

Damn nice SRV cover...awesome Dude..
Love the effect of the Leslie..
Can you review the tech 21 roto choir. I just got one and its awesome. I'm a/b-ing it with your demo here and it sounds just as good.
Great demo. Thank you.
GREAT demo, good sir. Thanks.

Very good review fella. Nice work.
I'm really smacked right now and this is so great to listen to and just chill out.. you play really well, and I wouldd buy one of these but they're so damned expensive
If you don't mind me asking, is the King Bee neck you put on that Tele a chunky or thin profile? And which do you prefer? Great demo as always!
I think if you did an A/B comparison with an actual Guitar through a Leslie the differences would be striking.

Ahhhhh, reminds me of "Let it Loose" Leslie guitar tone, which is good
I would love to see an A/B of this and Tech 21's Roto Choir! :)
Good demo and thanks for not being barefoot like most people do on here.
Could you demo the TC electronics Nova Repeater, Morley Maverick and the GFS phase? Please! I will appreciate. Thanks if you do and or don't. Keep on keeping on keepinging on making great videos!) -PK
omg thats a sick sound!!! i loved that sound!!!! me want one!!!!! lol
@danakerman but it does have stereo outs :)
Dude you sound just like Jack Black!!
Cool Rotary pedal but what's the Jack Black impersonation?
how much for the boots dude ?
hey man will you do some demos of the devi ever fuzz pedals. if you dont mind.
Great guitar playing.
Ooohh yessss, that sounds rather nice :0)
Gearmandude...time for a Leslie/Rotary pedal shootout. If you could do this with two amps that would be great (stereo out from the pedals into separate amps/mics).
2:56 name of the song?
I looked away by Derek and the Dominoes
That´s Rock n Roll, brother ...
Can you upload a Double Muff VS. Big Muff or Little Big Muff video?
Does the lex (and leslie pedal in general) go in the fx loop before delay/reverb... or it sounds beeter in front of the amp, before dirt?
Jack Black?
I wonder this everytime I come across one of this guy's videos.
I swear I think the EXACT SAME thing every time I watch these videos...!
I like the H&K rotosphere better. Sounds more like a leslie, less like a chorus. I really like the breakup on the rotosphere Downside is that it's 4x bigger than this...
Stop with the jack black. His name is Eric Whorton. works at Guitar Emporium in louisville, ky.
this will do it, but check out the neo ventilator, it's general considered the best leslie sim out there, even better than this
How do you like the MMMMMHMMMMM microphone? I'm thinking of getting one!
Imagine this with that new EHX B9 pedal.
Very cool idea, even 4 years after you posted this comment.
Dude i love your boots
Thanks Jack.
she took my hand...
can't decide between this pedal and the ventilator
what about the boots, you need to say where you got 'em
thanks Jack
what was the song at the start?
that tone!!!
Pretty cool
Where can i get one of these?
sick boots!
Love this pedal, but I gotta tell myself that I already have my BYOC Analog Chorus.
Where in the US I can buy this pedal?
the only weakness I'm hearing is the sound of the preamp section.. overall sounds like a pretty good replica compared to what's out there
When I hear this effect, I just think of Bon Jovi - Always ... that guitar solo is great for this sound as a demo. :)
Was this filmed in 1978?
Yes it was. Move along please. : )
anyone know where i can get a strap just like that?
1:34 necesito esas botas, perdón, ese Pedal...
"She took my hand
And tried to make me understand"
:)
does it octagon?
I Looked Away...nice
Nice kicks
So this is what the Uni-Vibe actually intended to be.
DEWWWD you sound so frikn much like Jack Black it's scarin me....
which u think is better this Lex or a Neo Vent?????
Versatile
Awesome
I don’t know which is cooler, the Lex Pedal or those escaped from a Florida pen boa constrictor boots
Are you Jack Black....? Excellent review. I've yet to see a bad pedal from Strymon. I own the Big sky....
I have a Korg G4 and I think that sounds much better that this pedal... a comparative video would be very interesting though.... :-)
i was reading that when he started speaking and laughed the shit off :D
Jack black???
It's not Jack Black. He just sounds like him.
You sound just like jack black! Jack?
You start hearing the pedal at 1:31
@mariahkoko Oh REALLYYY.... hmmmmmmm very nice indeed
school of rock:-)
i bet this has a big price tag on it lol i love leslie speakers they own. peace
@hyperboogie , man, there's a world of difference between tremolo and rotary speaker simulation....
Does anyone know where it would belong in a chain of effects?
Matt Smith most people like it after their drives. I have it before dirt and for me it works better this way. But you just have to experiment, I guess.
1:56 Snakeskin boots!
deeeeelicious
@kakabulle243 hahah right on!!
aww fuck i have to get this lol
@paulgaudinjrBCN
Well, sir, tell that to Dave Gilmour.
It is Jack Black.
Let's HEAR IT WIT A HAMMOND GAWD DAMMIT!!!!
I was thinking the EXACT same thing! I thought it was Jack Black!
are you jack black? love ya ;)
He's Eric Wharton. Jack can't play the guitar!!!
this isnt the lex, I think its something built into whatever keyboard he is using (i dont play the keys so who cares :p) but its a good comparison. /watch?v=O_l5fY1QoYo
exactly xD SPOT ON G
