  • The 24-class diesel electric locomotive is the third batch of mainline locomotives bought from Japan, and the most powerful traction power available to KTMB until the arrival of the 26-class "BlueTiger" locomotives in 2003. Manufactured by Toshiba-Kawasaki of Japan, 26 of these were delivered in 1987, and named after figures in the local Malay historical legends.
These locomotives are equipped with dual braking system (vacuum & air), though it was initially delivered with a single-pipe air brake system. That has since been converted to the standard dual-pipe employed by KTMB. This class of locomotive was also the longest in KTMB's fleet, a record again broken with the arrival of the 26-class.
Today, this locomotive is seen mostly on passenger services, and occassional freight hauling.
