My rule of thumb is, black dress shoes for anything formal, but I never mix brown and black together. I wear brown shoes especially with certain grays, blues or tan outfits.
Woo hoo!! I got a salute! I used to always just get black shoes as my default, but since I retired, I really took a look at my needs and determined that brown was a much better default for me. I still have a few black ones for certain occasions, but brown is now my Main choice for the "uniform". I find I really like the oxblood or burgundy options.
I prefer brown as I am retired and rarely need the formality of black shoes. I have also transitioned in the last 3 years wide toe-box, minimalist footwear! They follow the natural shape of the foot and have slowly improved foot issues such as bunions and other foot issues that occur over time by shoving our toes & feet into shoes that eventually deform & damage them!🙏🏽
I used to associate patinas to old men shoes. Now, the styles have evolved and I can't get enough of 'em. Tryna learn how to do it myself (with a cheaper shoe first).
Outstanding..as always on point ! I'm in my late 60s;and I found that dark brown and black from derbys to loafers..are versatile .Whereas cognac colored shoes can be restrictive..
One could get away with a shade of brown that looks black under certain lighting conditions. Burgundy, as long as it is the darkest shade, could also work.
I also never wear black shoes in summertime. I feel like loafers shouldn't be black. My go to is black dressboots for more formal occasions since the weather is horrible most of the year in Finland. Good video
I’ve got a couple of pairs of grey shoes (and belts as well). I tend to use them as a more casual alternative to black when brown would clash with the rest of the outfit.
Besides other shoes I own black leather Van Bommel double strap monks and to be honest they are 8 years old now. Still in perfect condition and they work well with jeans, chino’s and pantalons which the latter I refuse to wear. My other shoes are similar in quality but are much harder to pair.
As he said, welcome. Most of us came for that reason. He has helped me, and I am older than he is. I am 62 and a big guy, so I needed some grown-up styling help.
This video is right on time. Been struggling with the next shoe(s) purchases. Gonna opt for brown brogues and some boots for everyday wear-to-work use and some really nice black oxfords for when it's time to "step up". Your sweater game is on point!
shout outs to the Style OG its been a few I Missed a few episodes but I still pay homage as always and look at these Mean Slip n slides now you rocked me w the conditioner part - Bless up brother
When I met my wife, all my shoes were black. My wife kept bugging me about getting Brown shoes. I finally did it and got 3 pairs. I even got more shoes of different colors to boost my wardrobe. When I see guys wearing outfits, I always look and see what color shoes they are wearing.
Brown shoes are definitely versatile. I saw some heavily discounted To Boot New York black dress shoes at off 5th Avenue and they feel amazing, but then I saw a nice almond looking colored Boss dress shoes. Since I’m not in a position of authority like a lawyer, I might just upgrade my worn out brown shoes. The only thing is those Boss shoes are so dressy that I’m afraid to scuff them. My kind of job at times requires me to walk around offices and get on the floor periodically. Would maybe a Brand like florsheim, Cole haans, etc work better for me? When I think Boss it’s better suited for a boss boss role haha not a technical walk around kind of job. What’s your take? I already have matching belts in brown of 2 shades so I’m set in that regard.
When in doubt, take a screenshot of style O.G. and run an image search. It's a "Cable Knit Long Sleeve Casual Ribbed sweater." Now you can search for your own based on fit and fabric as opposed to just a brand name.
The only time you should wear a black shoe is when you have on black dress pants you can get away with it with blue or gray, but I never wear black dress shoes with anything except Black
We have become tainted watching the so called celebrities walking and posing on the red carpets wearing all manner of shoes. Appropriate colors or not. Mostly inappropriate colors for the rest of their outfits.
I prefer burgundy it goes with more suit and dress pants than the others. Burgundy works well with almost all colors of suits except black.
Burgundy is great!
i got some used oxbloods, pairs great! much to my surprize
Burgundy shoes are great!! Very stylish as well👍🏾
U right... Got a pair just to add variety to my collection and it quickly became my most worn
Because of you, I have upgraded my wardrobe and improved my appearance. Thank you for all of your content, OG 💪💪💪.

For me, black if just to formal. I catch myself wearing brown most of the time regardless more shoe maintenance. That’s my thoughts and Salute 👍🏾
