- The drama depicts the love story of Bai Feng Jiu and Dong Hua Di Jun, that spans 2000 years. Feng Jiu, the queen of Qing Qiu, is the only red nine-tailed fox in Qing Qiu and thus being pampered by everyone. She loves to cry and to throw tantrums but is also persistent and brave. One day, when Feng Jiu is in the mountains for cultivation, a beast attacks her. Luckily, the former Emperor of Heaven Dong Hua passes by at this moment and saves her. To pay the debt of gratitude, Feng Jiu follows Dong Hua who goes to fight the rebelling Demon Lord. Feng Jiu soon realizes that gratitude has turned into love, however, Dong Hua already forgot what love is. In order to keep her safe, Dong Hua sends Feng Jiu to the mortal realm, but the guardian he sends together with her unexpectedly dies. While trying to find the immortal fruit that can let her be reborn, Feng Jiu enters the temple of the ghost princess.

Although he is,a good friend of Fengjiu. But sometimes Friend's Stupidity make other friend suffer

The friendship of Yan and Feng Jiu is actually super cute and I support it 100%. I hope they don't have to fight each other later on/can maintain that friendship ~
I absolutely love the last couple of seconds of the scene where Dong Hua goes out of his bedroom telling Fengjiu to be a good girl and stay there while he brings her medicine. Ji Hong follows him back to the bedroom as he carries in a tray with a cup of the purported medicine and a spoon, but nobody's there. He looks out the window, and gets a little smile on his face because he imagines, "Yep, she turned into a fox and jumped right out. Clever girl." And about a second later, he tilts his head a little to the left, as the smile fades, and his eyes get sad. That change from smiling realization to regret that she didn't stay just a bit longer takes maybe a second and a half. It's so fast, you hardly notice it, and subtle. It's an amazing second or two of acting that contains so much. Maybe it's an example of really good direction, but I suspect not every actor could do it as well. I'm in awe of Gao Wei Guang's talent.
Laura Zink de Diaz He is brilliant on those subtle facial changes. You don’t notice it on your first or second watch or even third watch, it is a blink and you will miss scene. Actor is amazing, it is going beyond what is in the script you have to really live the character, he really became Dong hua. There is so much depth and detail in this acting I have never seen in another show or character.
A special mention 31:09 at those sexy eyes come over here and put it for me.
At 42:24 when FengJi is stopping Yan from drinking too much, DH opens the door to see for himself, obviously he was eavesdropping the whole time. His eyes are first downcast sombre at her open, free and concerned interaction with her friends, then the sparkle of jealousy in his eyes when Meng mentions his love for Princess DH straightens up his body language WTH which Princess is he talking about NOT MY GIRL. Jealousy spillover continues in the next episode.

I remember the first time I watched this (I'm approaching my 30th viewing of the whole thing), I was amazed at how much more he uses his eyes than any western actor I've seen. And then I saw an interview of Gao where he talked about the fact that Dong Hua is supposed to be so expressionless, that he knew the only way he could possibly express anything was with his eyes. He is incredibly good at it! Yes to 42:24! I so agree. And if I'm not mistaken, yet he chooses the moment when Yan puts his hand on FJ's shoulder to thank her - such a common gesture, having no sexual content at all, to call her over to him make dinner or whatever. Poor young Meng is clearly no real competition in Dong Hua's eyes, but Yan? Danger! And I see little echoes of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew in this series, from the point at which Dong Hua awakens from his past life experience in Chengyu and recognizes Fengjiu and is intrigued by her total lack of willingness to give him any attention. He wants her attention but initially only gets it by being rather mean, and until Lian Song fills him in on just HOW mean he's been to her, he doesn't change his tune. But then remember the scene where she interrupts a meeting with new immortals to get her bracelet and hair pins back, where he literally dares her to take them from his hand - OMG she might have to touch the skin on his hand to get them!! - and after she actually does take her things from him, you really have to be watching to notice that his fingers explore the feeling of hers on his hand, and then he gives a deep sigh. Dilraba is good, but it's Gao that keeps me filling my hours of covid quarantine to find every single nuance in his acting. I don't think I've ever before seen as fine an actor as he is.

There is a big difference between a film actor and a stage actor. One of the things they teach you in acting class is to do your lines in front of a mirror. Film actors have to do subtle movements and a stage actor can do broader expressions to carry to the back of the theatre. I thought I wonder how long he practiced in front of the mirror. In Operation Special Warfare, Vengo revealed he practice his salutes and other looks in front of a mirror. DongHua does the most subtle eyebrow wag in another scene and I missed it the first time I watched, but he had to have practiced that one in front of the mirror and all the other expressions. Vengo is a Master at his acting craft.
Gao is a very talented actor! There are very few actors that can talk with facial expressions and our man Gao can do this with ease! I love him!

What gets me is the smile DJ gives when he sees that Fengjio has left before getting her medicine. It's a bittersweet love smile. He understands she's protecting his reputation, but it also makes him sad that she would rather leave at night when she's most afraid to get away from him. He doesn't understand yet her distance, it causes him pain that she doesn't see his interest, but doesn't know she is trying to avoid more pain

These two together are a match made in heaven.. He knows how to wind her up to get her to forget why is was cross with him in the first place. His facial expressions with her are fantastic! They couldn't of picked a better couple to have the main parts. They draw you in like its so real. I love it!

I agreed Feung Jiu is the only lady Dong Hua will share his bed with. He's very hand on when it comes to her. He's very unreasonable when he's around her too. He's doesn't care either if people know. Ji Heng knew it too but she refuses to acknowledge it.
DH had let her sleep in his bed quite a lot thinking about it! When she was his Fox she curled up on his bed with him! When she was in the mortal world she laid on the bed with him! When she was a handkerchief he laid her across his arm while he slept and now here! As you say she is the only one whatever form she is, is aloud to sleep with him!

The combination of Xiao Yan foolishness to read into situations and the naivety of FengJiu are really a comical mix. So cute their friendship n.n. And Dong Hua XD he just must look PERFECT in every situation, that arm was sitting in the air but make him look in just the perfect position when he was reading and FengJiu was sleeping over him. (Do I look handsome and marvelous in this way?).

I love Yan's character. He's so honest and genuine. But because of how likeable his character is, it's easy to overlook his flaw of not listening to people, especially to Jiheng. His love for Jiheng is strong but a lot of it is based on his fantasy of who Jiheng is which allows him to continue to pursue Jiheng despite her lack of interest. Jiheng's upbringing gave her a good facade of a gentle and cultured princess. But that kind of upbringing usually comes with a good amount of isolation and repression from the constant pressure of keeping up appearances. Combine with entitlement as a princess.... it's a combo for some twisted stuff. Also, like Yan, Jiheng seems to be in love with her idea of who both Minsu and Dijun are. With the amount of time she spent with Minsu, no way she would not have noticed Minsu was a woman at some point. Or maybe she went into denial because Minsu is one of the few people she's allowed to interact with. Cause if she paid even a little bit of attention, she'd notice that both Minsu and Dijun never return her affections. It creates a bad feedback loop; she gives without having her affections returned. Her isolation and repression turn those feelings turn into resentment and jealousy and she acts out in destructive ways to both herself and others. Yan at least has Fengjiu as a friend and his openness allows him to express his emotions instead of stewing on the inside.

I read originally Ji Heng suppose to play Delriba role as leading actress. I feel sorry for her. The way Jay walk studio and other studio only has Delibra for all female actress roles because of her beauty.
We are all blessed with talent, we just need to recognized. Not that I am against Delriba, she is one of my favorite. I am very fair person, I dont just see outer beauty I also see beauty within. I am gifted in that respect.

western shows and movies ceased to be good decades ago. Today, absolutely unwatchable.
Same here, I live in the US aswell and I don’t watch their series or movies. At most if I watch their movies they are only the Hallmark or Lifetime Christmas movies. I would also watch the old TV Novelas, cause the new noveles are basically new versions of the old ones anyways.
No kidding! I'm a US citizen, living in South America. I have now watched this series close to 30 times, and I'm STILL laughing and crying through the whole thing. I've always been picky about American series. I haven't watched even a quarter of what my friends watched when I used to live there - too boring or too dumb. I've watched 5 Chinese productions in the last few months, and all of them are worth watching multiple times, but this is my favorite and I bought the DVD version to make sure I will always have it available. I'm amazed that after nearly 30 times watching ELofD I am still finding new details and complexity in the characters. I have some favorite shows and movies made in the US, but I have NEVER watched any program made in the US this many times without the story and characters becoming routinary and worn out. I had no idea that I would find such quality in anything made by directors and actors working in China. I'm going to be keeping my eye on these actors and the production company for a long time to come!
I agree. I cant get interested in US shows anymore. I've completely stopped watching them . Its either porn, foul language and murder and then a car chase. Bang, bang shows over. They are so predictable and unimaginative. I'm a US citizen and hate China for how they treat thier people ! But I ain't too damned happy with our gov. presently either !

It's less that Xiao Yan saw her fox form and more that he was standing in her room when he saw it.

又来报告了，看了好几遍还能再看下去，这剧是唯一一部，好的编剧美工，精妙的台词，完美的男女主角，唯一不足的就是剧尾收尾太匆忙，而且主角戏份不能充份展开，反而配角的🐔蘅莫名奇妙的占了好几分钟，第一遍以后看到姬蘅的片段就跳过不浪费时间了
