Yes, they did the same thing in the remake of the original lion king but everybody for some reason had a problem with it. Nobody seems to have a problem with it with this movie because it’s not a remake.
The director was obsessed with realism and making the movie shot like a documentary. Still makes no sense like what does the lion king have anything to do with a nature documentary 😅 this one looks a million times better
What goes on in this scene makes sense in terms of both Taka and Mufasa's characters. Mufasa was always one to stand his ground in the face of adversity (considering that years later, he would dive into a goddamn stampede to save his son, and mopped the floor with the hyenas, despite being outnumbered), while Taka always was one to turn tail and run when faced with a fight (even when he fought Simba, he tried to cheat, meaning he would never attempt a to win a fair fight)
Okay, so multiple things to point out here: 1. Poor Mufasa now being scared of water after what happened with his family. I just wanna hug the poor lion. 😢 2. Tension's already building here with Taka starting to abuse his royal authority. 3. Can we just appreciate the menacing buildup to Kiros coming out of the mist? Not quite Death's whistle, but effective nonetheless. 4. Okay, so Kiros has a son who gets killed by the boys at some point. I'm guessing during the scene where the Outsiders attack Obasi's pride?
I don’t like getting trapped! I wanna hug Mufasa, too! Sometimes cats are scared of water, too. But I am not afraid of it! Because I overcame the fear of water and the swimming pool!!
taka wasn't abusing his authority, he was literally trying to save mufasa and himself, taka was in the right in this situation. taka even says "i didn't want to do this", so he clearly doesn't even like using his authority over others in the first place. two young adolescent lions would be absolutely slaughtered in a fight between an adult male lion and 10+ adult lionesses. swimming is still a risky move but it has a much higher survival chance than trying to fight a 10+ pride of fully grown lions, mufasa was really dumb in this situation to even suggest fighting
The movie isn't even out yet and is already getting such positive receptions from these short clips alone while it was originally super hated when the first teaser dropped. Barry Jenkins really cooked with this one!
Ehhh I wouldn’t say positive reception. Lots of people think the dynamic between Mufasa and Taka/Scar is wrong and it’s because it is. Mufasa was the one who was known as the biological son of Ahadi and Uru where Taka/Scar was known as either only Ahadi’s/Uru’s cub or an outsider but Ahadi and Uru took him in. Plus Disney’s mad Mufasa isn’t doing well and is forcing theaters to put it in screens besides Sonic 3 because Sonic 3 is doing better.
0:25 - 0:39 That deep terrifying roar echoing in the mist truly speaks just how evil and scary Kiros is. Then he emerges from the mist like a ghost, intent on avenging his son.

He is risking his life and Taka's in this moment due to be afraid to face his trauma.
