@@John-zt3lv - Your pun is senseless and shortsighted. ...just the corporate white background screens will ruin your eyes and why so many interfaces are now going dark scheme. (see, the corporate idiots are to afraid that dark = porno and more concerned about that than your health).
In all these videos I have watched(millions), first welder who brought up the fact that the welding light will burn your eyes but no thru the comp screen... I still don't watch that shite LOL! If it hurts(because of the intensity), that's enough for me not to challenge it.

Placing a metal ring that is wider than your pot and comes up about 1/2 to 2/3 the way to the top of the pot will force the hot gasses to flow up the sides of the pot. This will result in more of the heat going into the contents of the pot rather than flow outwards and being wasted. The diameter of the ring should be such that the area of the gap between the ring and your largest pot is slightly bigger than the cross-sectional area of the heat riser. This will keep the hot gases expanding all the way through the system. If the area of the gap were smaller than the riser area, the gas flow would be restricted by the ring and the stove wouldn't flow as well. This won't work quite as well for smaller pots, but it should still turn the gases upward resulting in more heat being absorbed than there would have been without the ring. Or you can make multiple rings for different size pots.
The ring should sit down on a solid surface sealing the bottom edge of the ring so that cold air isn't drawn in under the bottom edge and cooling the combustion gases, and defeating the purpose. Probably the best way to have done that with this rocket stove would be to have made the top surface a circle just a bit larger than the outer diameter of the ring. Then make the pot stand diameter just a smidge smaller than the inner diameter of the ring so that the ring just slides down over them and they hold the ring in place. For the stove as it is, cut slits in the sides of the ring so that it slides over the pot holder legs. You will probably will need to weld some tabs on the bottom of the ring to seal gaps between the ring and the top of the stove.
One caution, don't use a pot with anything but solid metal handles since the ring exhaust gasses right up the sides of the pot and will burn anything like the Bakelite handle that appears to be on your pot.

    • @papparocket
      @papparocket 3 роки тому

Oh, and if you really wanted to get fancy, you could make a "can" that has a hole in the top the diameter of your pot so that you set your pot down inside the can, then in the side of this can you cut a hole for a chimney that will take the combustion gases up and away from where you are cooking. For places that still use wood to cook with and do so indoors, such a system could allow them to use a very efficient rocket stove to minimize the amount of expensive and increasingly rare wood while also not polluting the indoor air with combustion products (even though the rocket stove itself drastically reduces the amount of unburned wood gases (aka smoke) and minimizes carbon monoxide).

The drain cleaner is _not_ just caustic soda but _also_ aluminium flakes. What this does is release hydrogen as soon as it gets wet. Bubbles to help unclog a blocked drain. Which they used to teach in the first year of basic school chemistry back in my day.

Excellent welding, spot on! A welding joke for ya ;-) Seriously though, you're good, you make it look very easy, I can't do as well even with a really good MIG welder. For a moment I thought you were going to make the stove a water heater, that would be a great use for one. I've never made an air chamber for any of the rocket stoves I've made, they burn just as hot even when I fill the inlet with sticks. You have another subscriber now, I was impressed with the build!

Man, you are killing me with that grinder! You have some good tools as seen in the video, get some sheet metal tools and a band saw LOL! You deserve it, your life will be so much better!!! With that said though, you do have some good fab skills, I am retired now but I spent a lifetime in aircraft tooling, I have seen many people try but never get very good and some were naturals, you are a natural. Next thing for that stove if you are going to use it in door as shown is to make an ash pan to fit under it. Please do treat yourself to some tools other than a grinder! You and your work deserve it :D

Personally, I would have added a solid Base Cap, as well, just for that added layer of protection if the burn chamber burnt through. And, when adding the insulation, a PVC pipe cap over the flue will save a bit of time dealing with spillage.
Also, is the 45 degree feed ramp enough? My gut is saying 60 degrees might be better, for feeding, but not necessarily to make.
Great video, and you've given me lots of ideas!

I like your builds and would like to have one because I can't weld in my shop. I like to build things but I'm limited on what I can build with. I have a cinder block rocket stove and have made several types of camp stoves and pot stands. That's the scale I'm working on. I think it would be nice to have a compact rocket stove.

  • @Stubones999

I would have wrapped copper tubing around the stove so you could circulate water for a warm / hot shower if you're using it for camping... Expose the ends of the tubing on the back, so you can stick a hose on the ends. A small battery powered pump would pick up creek water, pump it through the stove and out the other hose to shower...

Great Work!!! I need to learn how to TIG Weld!!! I like the angled feed tube and the v-platform!!! Just thinking though, why don't you make a rectangular opening just below the feed tube which is the whole width of the chimney column and you can slot in a drawer to catch the ashes in and pull it out to empty it???...but yes, I know, simplicity is key!!!

a heavy duty stainless steel screen mesh wire (cut round-square) as cover to hold the perlite from spilling over at the top...secured with small diameter pins drilled and punched thru that square tube only, will do the top isolation-insulation thing(thereby you can change insulation material as needed, some clay versions use wood ash as insulation)...and for the pot stand...spot weld or slide into cross-wise cut slits done only on the round tube burning chamber... thus isolating that heat from that square tube is another idea...(round tube burning chamber shud be cut a little taller(by few mm) than the outer square tube...[that handy rocket stove you made sure got me excited too, mate ...]
well, just an idea working in mind here...got me busy thinkin' about how to better lower that outer temp., without altering the function...😉🙄🤔

Totally isolating and buffering unattached to that burning chamber could probably lower temp.and prolong that stable warm-not so hot temp....somewhat suspended in perlite...or with just a few welded spots using small round bars...6-8mm...just an idea...but that stove is surely sturdy yet handy...👌👍👍
